We've had the pleasure of sharing our lives with two Irish Terriers, and each one's been a truly unique experience that's left us with memories we'll always treasure. Our first Irish Terrier, Jack, was a feisty little guy who lived to be 13.5 years old. He was a genius, brave, and always up for an adventure. Long walks in the woods were his thing – he'd run ahead, exploring every nook and cranny. But he was also a handful; he'd pick up anything he could find and bring it back to us, whether it was a stick or a rock. If he met someone in the woods, he'd bark and circle around them, trying to get our attention. Not aggressive, just a total people person. We'd call out to him, and he'd come running back, tail wagging. As he got older, he mellowed out a bit, but he still loved to play and go on adventures. One of his quirks was that he'd howl whenever our phone rang – not just any phone call, mind you, but our phone. It was like he knew exactly when we were getting a call, and he'd start whining until we answered. Then there was the time he met another dog on our balcony, and he just lost it. He was so possessive of us that he wouldn't even let us pass by the balcony without a fuss. But he loved our kids, and they loved him. Now we have a new Irish Terrier, Sire, who's a big ol' goofball. He's two years old, and he's still got that mischievous spark in his eye. He's smart, too, and loves to play and explore. But he's also got a bit of a fear of the groomer – he'll do just about anything to avoid getting a haircut. And when we're out in the city, we always make sure to bring a leash – not just for his safety, but for ours, too. I mean, I've been bitten by a Yorkie before, just out of the blue. So yeah, we take our dogs' safety pretty seriously. But it's all worth it, every time we see that wagging tail and those big brown eyes. Both of our Irish Terriers have brought us so much joy and love, and we feel incredibly lucky to have had them in our lives.
