#Girlboss: A Review of Sophia Amoruso's Autobiography
Hello everyone!
I wanted to share my thoughts after reading Sophia Amoruso's book #Girlboss: How I Escaped Rags to Riches and Became a Top Entrepreneur at a Young Age. I've been a fan of the Netflix series based on this book for a few years now, but I still remember that the show only had one season.
The entire storyline was centered around Sophia Amoruso's personality and her real-life journey to success, and it mostly focused on her building her company, Nasty Gal. There was also a romantic storyline, which was probably inspired by the author's real life.
The show had this cool feature where the actress playing Sophia (Britt Robertson) wore real clothes from the author's wardrobe, which she had purchased from thrift stores and sold on eBay. The author even kept some of these items for herself.
I'd known about this book since 2014-2017, when it first came out and everyone was talking about it on social media. But by the time the book was released, Nasty Gal had already gone bankrupt.
With 238 pages, including notes and acknowledgments, the book is divided into 11 sections, each with multiple chapters. The language is straightforward, making it easy to get through in no time. Don't expect any magic formulas for becoming a millionaire overnight, though - it's not that kind of book.
But for an autobiography or motivational read, it's not the worst choice. You'll find some thought-provoking ideas to ponder and take note of for inspiration. The book includes some pretty cool black-and-white photos of Sophia Amoruso from her personal archive. They add a certain charm to the story.
I really enjoyed reading about the other women who worked alongside Sophia and made significant contributions to Nasty Gal's success. The book gives you a glimpse into their paths to success and how they grew in their careers. That's what I'd call the '#Girlboss' section – it's like a mini-portrait of these women who paved their own way.
The book is marketed as a guide to building a successful business, but in reality, it's more of the author's autobiography. That being said, you can still pick up some useful tips and insights from the book, like learning about Sophia Amoruso's journey as the founder of Nasty Gal.
I have to say, this book is pretty straightforward – it's just a regular book with an autobiography of Sophia and her story of achieving success in her business. The advice in the book can be helpful and inspiring, but it's not a step-by-step guide on how to become a businesswoman with your own corporation. It's more of a motivational read, and you can finish it in a couple of days.
You can still take some quotes from the book to reflect on later, though. Don't expect too much from this book, but I still recommend giving it a read and I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars.
One thing that's really stuck with me is figuring out how to turn my weaknesses into strengths. I've also been thinking a lot about creating my own philosophy and sticking to it. It's funny, because I've been wondering when it's time to know when to hold back and when to push for more.
I've also been trying to get better at asking the right questions. Recently, I was reminded of this book and finally decided to download it. I've highlighted some moments while reading this book, and I liked the quotes with artwork so much that I took some notes.
I really liked the idea of having quotes with artwork because it looks visually appealing and elegant. I've seen the original version of the book, and it looks similar to this one. I read the Russian version, but I had the original one too, it's been in my downloads for ages.
I've got to say, this book is a breeze to read.
Although the main events of the book started happening in 2009, most of the photos were taken before or after that, but still before the book's release.
I've got to say, this book is pretty straightforward – it's just a regular book with an autobiography of Sophia and her story of achieving success in her business. The advice in the book can be helpful and inspiring, but it's not a step-by-step guide on how to become a businesswoman with your own corporation.
