My Russian Far East Adventure Continues!
I recently had the chance to visit the Gamov Peninsula in the Russian Far East, and I'm still reeling from the experience. Located in the Haskansky district, it's the southernmost part of Primorye, and it's a real treasure trove of natural beauty.
This place has an otherworldly energy to it, with crystal-clear water, a romantic island called Tomashing Heart, and a whole lot more. I'm not gonna lie, it's a total game changer.
You can get to Bucht Telyakovsky by car or by joining a tour that'll take you there in a 4x4. The tour costs around 3-4 thousand rubles.
The Gamov Peninsula is something else, folks. It's like stepping into a different world, even though it's only a short drive from the mainland. The scenic views, the red-listed trees, and the massive, ancient roots of the mogilnye sosny trees will leave you speechless.
According to local legend, if you hug one of these trees for a few seconds, all your troubles will disappear. Okay, maybe that's a bit far-fetched, but it's definitely worth a try!
And then there are the views from the top of the sopkas – breathtaking, to say the least. The sea lions are totally chill, and you can even snap a photo or two with them.
Just be aware that the water's not for swimming, as it's a magnet for sharks due to its crystal clarity. There's been one reported incident of a shark attack, so it's best to stick to observing from a safe distance.
At the end of the peninsula, there's a narrow passage that leads to a tiny island called Tomashing Heart (or Shapka Napoleona, due to its shape). It's essentially a natural hot tub with sea water. The island gets its name from a large, round stone that looks like a heart – if you push it, it'll make a heartbeat sound. It's a bit cheesy, but it's worth a visit.
Keep an eye out for the sea lions, as they love to lounge on the island. Unfortunately, I didn't get to spot any during my visit.
Due to the influx of tourists, there's a warning sign at the entrance to the island, advising visitors to keep their groups small, as large crowds can harm the ancient tree roots and the island's wildlife.
This place is absolutely enchanting, with the scent of the sea and the pine trees filling the air. No wonder it's called the gem of Primorye.
Thanks for reading, folks!
