Hello everyone!
I used to have a cat, and my partner and I loved feeding it Farmina food. But when we got a new kitten a year ago, we found out that the company had stopped working with Russia, so we switched to Grandorf instead.
Fast forward a year, and I noticed that Farmina was back on the shelves. I decided to compare the two and see if it's worth switching back to the old favorite. So, here's my review and comparison of Farmina Natural & Delicious (N&D) Neutred chicken and pomegranate and Grandorf 4 Meat & Brown Rice Sterilized.
Packaging
I chose the smaller packs for a more detailed comparison.
The 300g package (they also come in 1.5kg, 5kg, and 10kg) is pretty convenient, with a zipper closure that keeps the air out and preserves the flavor.
This little pack cost me 819 rubles.
You can find all the necessary information on the back of the package, and there's even a sticker with the full Russian translation.
Description of the food
Now, let's dive into the Grandorf sensation.

I recently picked up a 400g pack of this stuff, and I've got to say, it was worth every penny at 1049 rubles. It's by far the priciest option in Grandorf's sterilized cat food line, but my three furbabies refuse to touch any other flavor.
xa0
One thing I'm not a fan of is the packaging design. The zipper on this particular pack is a bit flimsy, which allows air to seep in and compromise the quality of the food. I'd recommend closing it up with a clip or transferring the contents to a container to preserve the nutrients.

On the back, you'll find all the necessary information, but unfortunately, there's no translation on the sticker. However, the Russian text on the sides of the pack does give you a better idea of what you're getting.

This food is specifically designed for adult sterilized or senior cats over 1 year old. With its low fat content and high protein levels, along with L-Carnitine, it helps maintain the ideal weight and muscle mass in sterilized and senior pets.

Ingredients

Farmina:
I was a bit skeptical about the ingredient list, but after digging in, I found some interesting stuff. The chicken meat without bones (30%), dehydrated poultry proteins (chicken, turkey) (28%), sweet potatoes, chicken fat, dehydrated whole eggs, herring, dehydrated herring, fish oil (herring), pork fat, pea fiber, dehydrated ruminant proteins (lamb, beef), dehydrated pork protein, dried carrots, dried alfalfa, inulin, fructooligosaccharides, yeast extract (mannooligosaccharide source), dried pomegranate (0.5%), dried apples, dried spinach, plantain (0.3%), dehydrated sweet orange, dried blueberries, sodium chloride, dry brewer's yeast, turmeric (0.2%), aloe vera extract.

Grandorf:
Dehydrated turkey meat (17%), Dehydrated duck meat (16%), Dehydrated wild boar meat (15%), Brown rice, Dried sweet potatoes, Dehydrated lamb meat (10%), Fresh turkey meat (8%), Turkey fat (2%), Fruit seed flour, Chicory root powder (natural source of prebiotics: FOS and inulin), Dietary fiber, Brewer's yeast (natural source of MOS), Fresh salmon oil (1%), Dried Antarctic krill (natural source of EPA and DHA, 1%), Dried apple, Dried cloudberry, Agave cactus.
Now it gets more interesting. Both of these food mixes have their pros and cons, but as it turned out, one of them has more questions than answers. So, let's break it down in order.

Farmina
I dug into the ingredient list and found that Grandorf contains 68% animal-based protein sources. However, I'm not entirely sure about the amount of other protein sources like 'chicken fat,' 'pork fat,' 'fish oil,' and 'herring' that are also present. The amount of these ingredients is unclear, which is a bit of a red flag. I'm particularly curious about the pork fat, which seems out of place in a cat food.
On a more positive note, the carbohydrates in Grandorf come from potato and pea sources, which are generally well-tolerated by cats.

Grandorf
When I examined the ingredient list for Holiistik, I found that it contains 69% animal-based protein sources. What's more, each ingredient is clearly listed with its percentage content.
My only concern is the presence of wild boar meat in the ingredient list. As far as I know, this is essentially just pork, which isn't the best option for cats.

Food form
xa0
Both Grandorf and Holiistik have small, easy-to-chew kibbles that are suitable for older cats.
xa0
However, the kibbles in Holiistik tend to be broken or crumbly, while those in Grandorf are always intact and quite hard.
Holiistik kibbles

Grandorf kibbles, on the other hand, are always whole and very dense.

Verdict
I've gotta say, Farmina N&D isn't bad, but there are still a ton of questions about the formula. So, I won't be going back to it after trying out the Grandorf line, and I wouldn't recommend it to others either. Still, I wouldn't give it a three-star rating, so here are four stars and my recommendation.
Overall, I'm quite satisfied with Grandorf 4 Meat & Brown Rice Sterilized. The quality of the ingredients and the absence of any fillers or by-products make it a great choice for my feline friends. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a high-quality cat food that's easy on the wallet.
However, I do have to mention that the packaging could be improved. The zipper on the 400g pack is a bit flimsy, which allows air to seep in and compromise the quality of the food. I'd recommend closing it up with a clip or transferring the contents to a container to preserve the nutrients.
Despite this minor issue, I'm extremely happy with Grandorf and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great cat food. It's definitely worth the extra cost, and I'm confident that my furbabies will continue to thrive on it.
So, if you're in the market for a new cat food, I highly recommend giving Grandorf a try. Your feline friends will thank you!
