My Fairy 'Lavender and Vitamin E' Dish Soap Review: A Great Product with One Major Flaw

summarizeEditor's Summary

I've been using Fairy dish soap for over a decade, and their Lavender and Vitamin E variant has become my go-to choice. This stuff is a total game changer for tackling grease and food residue. I've used it for a week now, and the build quality has impressed me - the bottle feels solid, and the cap doesn't leak. The scent is lovely, too. However, there's one major flaw that's preventing me from giving it a full 5-star review: the price is a bit steeper than I'm comfortable with. But trust me, it's worth every penny if you're tired of using low-quality dish soap that leaves residue behind. I've found that it's excellent at breaking down grease and food residue, and it's easy to rinse off, leaving no residue behind. The lovely lavender scent is not overpowering, and it's a great value for money if you factor in the quality. I've also appreciated the ease of use and the fact that it's gentle on my hands. However, I do wish the bottle was made from more sustainable materials, and the packaging could be more minimalist and appealing.

Fairy 'Lavender and Vitamin E' Dish Soap Review: A Great Product with One Major Flaw
I've been washing dishes by hand for over 10 years now, and I have to say, I still prefer it over using a dishwasher. Some people swear by the convenience of dishwashers, but for me, it's just not worth the hassle. I mean, you still have to load the dishes, wash off some of the food residue under the tap, and then put them away. And let's not forget the time it takes - I've timed myself, and washing dishes by hand is way faster. So, saying that using a dishwasher is easier is just a way of saying we don't like washing dishes, not that it's actually easier.
I love washing dishes, and for me, washing two or three plates at a time isn't the end of the world. I find it therapeutic, actually. Plus, cleaning up after myself is a breeze, so keeping the house clean is a piece of cake - just don't put it off until later, do it now.
I usually buy dish soap from two brands: Fairy and AOS. For me, they're the most reliable producers that have gotten the formula right for breaking down grease and food residue. Today's review is dedicated to Fairy's 'Lavender and Vitamin E'.
When I think of my first experience with this product, I remember buying it at a store in Saratov region called Perekrestok. It was a bit of a challenge to find, but it was worth it. I don't remember the exact price, but I think it was around 300 rubles. There were no discounts, and I wanted to get the budget-friendly option to leave at the base, but my husband insisted on getting a good product that we could take home.
The packaging was a bit of a hassle to use - the bulbous, elongated bottle made of semi-transparent matte plastic was a bit awkward to hold and pour the liquid onto a sponge. But the design is actually quite clever, with the standard product information on the front and the 2 in 1: tough on grease, gentle on hands claim on the red background. The back side has more detailed information, including the ingredients and volume.
I was really impressed with the design of this Fairy dish soap. It's developed in collaboration with dermatologists to keep your hands soft. The concentrated formula cuts through grease quickly and leaves your dishes spotless, without drying out your skin. The active ingredients are so effective, they dissolve grease even in cold water. Plus, you only need a tiny amount - one capful can clean twice as much as other brands. And, despite its power, it's easy to rinse off with water.
The ingredients are pretty standard, with 5-15% Anionic Surfactants, <5% Non-ionic Surfactants, Preservatives, Fragrance, and Geraniol. The volume is 900 ml, which is a decent size for the price. The red lid looks great with the other red labels on the box, and the flip-top lid has held up really well during my testing - it hasn't bent or broken, but to be fair, I don't use it that often.
The yellow substance inside is visible through the packaging, and the consistency is thick - exactly why I love this brand. You only need a tiny amount to wash, because the product is concentrated. When you apply it to a sponge, it doesn't soak in right away, thanks to its dense consistency. If you apply it to your hand, the product spreads out gradually, coating the surface of your skin.
However, the smell is absolutely disgusting, and that's exactly why I won't be buying this product again. It smells like herbs, and I guess it's supposed to be a natural scent, but it's just too overpowering, with way too much fragrance added. A cleaning product shouldn't have such a strong smell.
The foam creation is amazing, you only need to add a small amount to the sponge, and a thick, long-lasting foam appears. I have to admit, I bought this stuff in another city, and the state of the dishes was so disgusting, it still makes me shudder just looking at the pics - especially the skillet, which needed some serious firepower to get it clean. But I managed with my usual cleaning solution, just scraping off the top layer of grease and grime.
This stuff is a total game-changer when it comes to tackling grease and grime - it breaks it down instantly. The only downside is that if you're washing dishes in cold water, you'll need to reapply the solution a couple of times. For a small mountain of dishes, a single or double dose of this stuff is all you need to get them sparkling clean.
The dishes sparkle after washing up, gleaming with cleanliness. The foam quickly breaks down any leftover food or greasy residue on its surface. The cutlery is just as easy and simple to clean, leaving its surface crystal clear, and you can even see your reflection in it, the surface is so clean and shiny.
The mug is just as easy and simple to clean, removing the light residue. Only Pemolyuk, minus the detergent, can save it from the residue of strong drinks, I mean black tea that's been steeping for a long time. The glasses are quick and easy to clean, and they end up sparkling and clean. The surface is completely residue-free, they're transparent, and when they dry, they don't leave any dried-on residue.
Wipe-downs are a breeze too. The plates come clean quickly, easily, and effortlessly, leaving the surface clean, shiny, and with no sign of a greasy residue.
I was thoroughly impressed with this product - it lasted me a solid three months of use. It does a fantastic job of cleaning any surface, effortlessly breaking down food residue and grease, leaving it spotless from the get-go, provided you use hot water. Cold water just won't cut it - I've tried it, and it's just not the same. Not that it's a deal-breaker or anything, but it's worth noting.
I've used it to clean grills, pans, and even my BBQ - and it's performed flawlessly every time. Now that the bottle's finally run dry, I always rinse out the remaining cleaning solution with some running water, adding a bit of water back into the bottle. I love shaking this bottle to get all the nooks and crannies clean, and it's amazing how much foam comes out. That's enough for me to get through another 2 to 3 days of use, and by then I'm already buying a new bottle.
The Good:
A trusted brandReally gets the grease offGreat thick consistencyGood value for moneyFoams up beautifullyThe Bad:
The big bottle is a painThe smell is awfulThanks for reading, everyone!
