A Kid-Friendly Dish Soap That Falls Short for Me

summarizeEditor's Summary

Fairy's dish soap for kids has some good qualities, but it's not perfect. As a parent, I appreciate that it doesn't dry out my hands and has a gentle formula. However, the ingredients list is a major concern for me. I've been using it for a while now, and while it's been okay, I've got some reservations about whether it's the best choice for my family's needs. Here's the lowdown on this product.

A Kid-Friendly Dish Soap That Falls Short for Me
I'll be the first to admit it - introducing solid foods to your little one can be a real challenge. Between washing toys, dealing with tantrums, and keeping baby's dishes clean, it's a wonder we get anything done. I decided to give Fairy's dish soap for kids a try, and here's my honest take.
I've been using this stuff for a while now, and it's been a decent addition to our household. The packaging is pretty standard, so I'm not questioning its quality. In terms of use, it's pretty straightforward - just squirt some on your sponge, and you're good to go. The bottle itself has Fairy's classic design, but this time it's made of transparent plastic. The front of the packaging has a traditional design, with the brand logo and a sticker that clearly states it's a kids' gel. Up top, there's an info sticker with the main benefits. The back also has an info sticker, but this time it's got everything you need: the ingredients, precautions, the manufacturer's description, and all the important contact info for the consumer. The lid is a standard flip-top design made of red plastic.
The Basics
Type - dish soap for kidsBrand - FairyCountry of origin - RussiaVolume - 450 mlPricing - we got it for around 180 rubles, but snagged it on sale for 79 rublesWhere to buy? You can find it in any supermarket or hypermarket, through delivery apps, or on online marketplaces.Organoleptics
Smell - I'm glad this gel has almost no scent. When you're using it, you don't notice it, and even after washing dishes, there's no lingering smell. If you're feeling curious and want to sniff the lid, you might catch a faint, sweet scent. Let's be clear - it's only noticeable in that case.
Consistency - it's thick, like a gel, but unlike Utënk, it doesn't feel slimy. It's actually a classic dish soap texture. In my opinion, it's a bit too thick - you only need a tiny bit to get the right amount of foam. The only downside is the presence of a dye, which makes the gel yellow. I'm not sure why they added it.
Ingredients in Kids' Fairy:
5-15% anionic surfactants; < 5% non-ionic surfactants; preservatives
Ingredients in Regular Fairy:
5-15% anionic surfactants; < 5% non-ionic surfactants; preservatives
I didn't notice any differences between the two.
Usage and Effectiveness
I've noticed that the deodorant effect is barely noticeable, and you only need a tiny bit to get a decent amount of foam. That's a big plus, since after meals, you need to wash your hands almost immediately. It handles kid's purees pretty well, even if they've dried out a bit, and it's great at cleaning up mashed potatoes, yogurt, and cheese.
I haven't tested it on greasy food, since my son hasn't had anything like that yet. My only major complaint is the ingredient list - it's just too long, and it's hard to see the point when it's not much different from regular Fairy. I'm still using it, but after each wash, I rinse it a few times, and every week or so, I give it a good soak with hot water.
Verdict
Fairy's dish soap for kids is a decent option, but it falls short for me. The ingredient list is a major turn-off, and the presence of a dye is unnecessary. On the plus side, it's deodorant-free and creates a good lather. I'll finish this bottle, but I won't be buying another. I'll keep looking for a dish soap that's specifically designed for kids and meets my standards.
I'd recommend it for washing adult dishes, but not for kids' dishes. If you're in the market for a kid-friendly dish soap, you might want to consider other options that are more suitable for their needs.
One thing that's worth mentioning is that the packaging is quite standard, which is a good thing. It's easy to use and doesn't take up too much space in the kitchen. However, the lack of a child-resistant cap is a bit of a concern. I've had to deal with my toddler trying to open the bottle, and it's not a pleasant experience.
Another thing that's worth mentioning is that the dish soap is not as effective at cleaning up stubborn stains as some other brands I've tried. However, it's still a decent option for everyday use.
I'm not blown away by this dish soap, but it's not a complete failure either. It's just a decent option that doesn't stand out in any way. If you're looking for a dish soap for your kids, you might want to consider other options that are more suitable for their needs.
