My Honest Take on Dickeys' Loyalty Program: The Good, the Bad, and the Surprising

summarizeEditor's Summary

I've been a die-hard Dickeys fan since 2021, and I've been putting their loyalty program to the test. The program's got some awesome perks, like cashback, discounts, and a rewards system that's actually pretty cool. But, let's get real - it's not all sunshine and rainbows. I've encountered some frustrating limitations and confusing rules that've left me scratching my head. In this review, I'll break down the good, the bad, and the surprising aspects of Dickeys' loyalty program, so you can decide if it's worth joining the club.

I've been a loyal customer at Dickeys for a while now, and I've been using their loyalty program since 2021. To be honest, I'm not even sure how I signed up - whether it was through the app or a physical card, but I do have a card, and it's linked to the app.
I'd read in reviews that Dickeys didn't have a physical card, only a barcode in the app, but that's not true - the card exists, and it's integrated with the app. I use it, although the barcode has faded a bit over time.
What does the program offer?
I've been getting up to 2% cashback, which is a decent offer compared to other retail chains. I also get 20% off my favorite items and up to 10% cashback on my favorite categories.
I've also got those magical 50 coins, which I'll discuss later.
Cashback and other discounts depend on your status within the program, which has four levels. As you can see, it's not too difficult to reach the 'Best Friend' status - just 12 days of purchases and you're good to go with 2% cashback.
Here are my 'achievements'
As you can see from the screenshot above, there are sections for 'Your Discounts', 'Coupons', 'Stickers', and 'Benefits'. I don't really use these sections, except to occasionally activate coupons.
Regarding the 'Your Discounts' section, I've noticed it's not actually my discounts - they're the same as the ones available to everyone in the store, just like in the 'Benefits' section.
I haven't used the 'Stickers' section at all.
I'll go into more detail about what I use and the nuances.
Cashback
2% cashback on purchases is a pretty good deal, especially compared to other retail chains. I do shop at Peremoga sometimes, but their loyalty program doesn't offer much in terms of cashback.
Cashback coins become available for redemption 48 hours after they're credited.
But there's a catch - I initially thought that 2% cashback was applied to the total purchase amount. But in reality, the cashback amount varies for each purchase.
Let me show you some examples in the screenshots below.
I was surprised to find that the cashback amount was lower than I expected, even with a total purchase of 362 rubles.
This is due to some restrictions, specifically:
Cashback is only applied to items with white price tags, excluding alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, and lottery tickets.
So, if you're a smoker, a heavy drinker, or a gambler, you won't be eligible for cashback.
Cashback can be increased up to 10% for items in your Favorite categories, which I'll discuss later.
Favorite items with a 20% discount - my favorite loyalty program feature.
Each week, you can select up to 4 favorite items in the mobile app, which will receive a 20% discount. For the 'Best Friend' status, you can choose a maximum of 4 items.
Some nuances:
You can change your favorite item only once a week, starting from Thursday, and also if the item is out of stock in your store. For example, if you chose a chocolate bar 'Alenka' on Monday, you can only replace it on Thursday of the next week, not on the current week.
So, you can't change your favorite items every day, as the store isn't offering that kind of deal. The discount starts working almost immediately, although it's stated in the conditions that it may take 15-30 minutes. You can only buy up to 3 items per day.
Personally, I think this is more than enough, as you can stock up on your favorite items with a 20% discount and then change them the next week.
That's exactly what I do - I stock up on the items I need with a discount, and then change them the next week.
Favorite categories with a 10% cashback
This is also a great option, considering you can choose up to 8 categories. Favorite categories are product groups that you can choose for a month, meaning that all items from these categories will have a higher cashback of up to 10%.
There's always a catch, isn't there?)
I noticed the fine print on the rewards: up to 10%. Naively, I thought I'd get a 10% cashback on my favorite products from the group I love.
But no, it's up to 10%. After analyzing my receipts, I realized I still don't get it)
Yes, there are receipts that clearly show a 10% cashback, but others are less clear on how it's calculated.
One thing I'm certain about: the cashback on my favorite products from the group I love will be the minimum)
The secret 50 coins) What's that all about?
Sometimes, you'll find 50 coins in your account, now called express coins, but previously they just added to your cashback.
I used to get these mysterious 50 coins quite often, but it was unclear how to use them because they didn't get deducted from my cashback)
So, if you have a cashback balance of 70 points, with 50 of those being coins, only 20 points would get deducted, leaving the 50 coins still intact until they expire.
But then, Dickeys improved their service, and it became more transparent.
To see the special conditions for deducting coins, check the 'Notifications' or 'Coupons' section.
For example, you might get 50 coins, and in the Notifications section, you'll find an offer that lets you deduct those coins only for buying tomatoes.
There are also coupons that promise to add 50 coins to your account if you buy those tomatoes.
That's about it, folks. The most interesting part, I've shared with you.
THE BOTTOM LINE
In my opinion, the loyalty program is pretty good and more beneficial than other network retailers' programs, especially the free ones.
There are retailers with paid services like the X5 Club from Perekrestok, which might offer better cashback if you shop frequently and in bulk at those supermarkets.
Dickeys itself is in the lower price category, and the selection reflects that. Not exactly a gourmet experience, if you know what I mean!
