The New Super Dog Movie: Not Bad, But a Few Annoying Moments Hold It Back
I'm a big fan of movie nights with my son. Every weekend, we make it a tradition to watch animated movies together. Sometimes we'll catch the latest releases at the cinema, and other times we'll just cozy up at home with a movie night on the TV. Recently, we stumbled upon an ad for a new film called Charlie Wonder Dog. The trailer caught my son's eye, and we decided we just had to check it out.
We finally got to see it yesterday, and today I'm sharing my thoughts on the movie and our experience.
Movie: Charlie Wonder DogTitle: Charlie Wonder Dog

We managed to catch the morning showing, which was a great choice since it was super quiet in the cinema. There were only 8 of us in total, all families with kids. I love the morning shows because they're usually a lot cheaper. We paid 350 rubles for our tickets, which was a great value for money.
Charlie the Wonder DogA Little About Charlie the Wonder Dog
The movie's all about a superhero dog and his owner Danny, like you can guess from the title.

Charlie's just a regular dog who loves his owner. He's been part of the family since he was a puppy, and he and Danny have a super strong bond.
Charlie the Wonder Dog Charlie the Wonder DogFast forward to when Charlie's all grown up, and so is Danny. But then Charlie's life takes a dramatic turn, and he gets some pretty cool superpowers.
Charlie's Wonder Dog Charlie's Wonder Dog Just like any superhero, Charlie can't just sit back and watch as people get into trouble – he's got to jump into action and save the day. But what's really great about this guy is that he's still just a regular pup who loves his owner and snacks.
Charlie's Wonder Dog And of course, when there's a superhero, there's gotta be a supervillain – and in this case, it's a sneaky cat. Meet Pudding, the feline mastermind who's determined to take over the world.
Charlie's Wonder Dog Charlie's Wonder Dog Will Pudding succeed in his dastardly plan, or will Charlie be able to stop him? You'll have to watch the movie to find out – and I'll share my thoughts on whether it lived up to my expectations and what didn't quite hit the mark.
What I liked about the movie 'Charlie's Angel Pup'
Good animation. I'd say the animation in this movie is on par with high-end and popular animated films. All the characters are well-drawn, with great attention to detail and a beautiful finish. The background details are also impressive.
Movie 'Charlie's Angel Pup'Special effects are also top-notch.
Movie 'Charlie's Angel Pup'Overall, the visuals in this movie are vibrant and a treat for the eyes.
Movie 'Charlie's Angel Pup'The message in the movie. I liked how the movie tackles important themes. For instance, the theme of friendship and mutual support. The bond between Charlie the dog and Danny the boy serves as a great example of friendship for kids. It helps them understand that a true friend will always be there to lend a helping hand, even if they get busy with other things.
Charlie's Wonder Dog MovieThis film also touches on the theme of fighting evil. It's a crucial message for kids: no matter what, good always triumphs over evil. And if you act selflessly, with a pure heart, and always lend a helping hand, good fortune will always be on your side.
Charlie's Wonder Dog Movie Charlie's Wonder Dog MovieSoundtrack. The background music in the movie is well-chosen. Each scene has a corresponding melody that matches the mood. For example, when things get sad, the music gets sad too. When things get happy, it's the opposite. The music really adds to the emotional impact of the important scenes. Each melody is played at the right moment, creating the perfect atmosphere for the viewer.
Charlie's Wonder Dog Charlie's Wonder DogFunny moments. I wasn't expecting much in the way of comedy from this animated film. While it's technically a comedy, I wouldn't say it's laugh-out-loud funny. However, there are a few scenes that made me chuckle. For a kids' movie, that's a definite plus - it's always great to see a film that can put a smile on their faces and create a sense of joy.
Charlie's Wonder Dog
What I didn't like about Charlie's Wonder Dog:
The portrayal of some politicians is really off-putting. I'm not sure what the filmmakers were going for with this scene, but one of the politicians is depicted in a really unflattering way - it's almost like a caricature.
Charlie's Wonder Dog I have to say, the villainess in this movie is a total scene-stealer. She's ruthless, super money-hungry, and at times, you can't help but think she's lost her marbles. Whenever she's on screen, I found myself thinking, 'What. Is. Happening?'
Charlie's Wonder Dog Given the theme of friendship and fighting against evil, these scenes really grated on me and left a sour taste in my mouth, spoiling the overall viewing experience.
HERE'S WHAT ELSE YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CHARLIE'S WONDER DOG, IF YOU'RE THINKING OF WATCHING IT:
The movie has a super simple plot. You pretty much know what's going to happen and how it's all going to end. No real surprises here. It's all just a bit too predictable. I wasn't sure whether to put this under the pros or cons, since it was still kind of fun to watch, but also just a bit too easy. So, I'll just leave it as a separate point.
Despite all that, my 8-year-old son still really enjoyed the movie.
MY OVERALL IMPRESSION OF CHARLIE'S WONDER DOG.
I've got to say, the movie overall wasn't bad. There's no super complex storyline, but that's kind of the point - it's simple yet important. Plus, the music is well-chosen and there are some genuinely funny moments. If it weren't for those off-putting scenes with the politician, I think I'd have enjoyed it even more.
Despite that, my kid and I actually liked 'Charlie Wonder Dog'. If you don't expect too much, it's a decent way to pass the time. I'd only recommend watching it once, though - I wouldn't bother re-watching it.
So, I'm giving it 4 stars, with a bit of a stretch, and I'd recommend checking it out⭐️👍
