A Miraculous Turnaround: How Vet Doctor Saved My Cat's Life
I'll be the first to admit, we had a tough case on our hands, but with the right professionals, anything is possible. Our cat's health issues started with dandruff, which spread to her fur, causing it to become dull and greasy. She even lost hair clumps with skin bits, and sometimes it would fall out in clumps!
We took her to the local vet clinic in Novotroitsk, but the doctor said it was just a hormonal imbalance or possibly due to the wrong food. However, we soon realized that the cheap food we were feeding her was the root of the problem. We switched to Guabi Natural for cats, but then came the sanctions, and we couldn't get the product anymore. We found an alternative in Cat food AlphaPet Dry food for cats with sensitive digestion, lamb 1.5kg, which our cat loved so much that she started eating it like it was going out of style! As a result, she quickly gained weight in a short amount of time.
But the dandruff came back, and we had to switch to Cat food Royal Canin Dry Skin&Coat for sterilized cats and dogs, 1.5kg for dermatoses and excessive hair loss. After that, the dandruff disappeared, and our cat became more agile. However, disaster struck when her mammary gland started swelling, making her lethargic and causing her to develop a crazy appetite. She even got a pot belly, and because of it, she had trouble fitting through the doorway.
I'm glad we don't have to rely on local vets for advice anymore. A coworker, who's a huge cat lover, recommended Dr. Chelelov's clinic, specifically Dr. Alexey Chelelov, a brilliant surgeon and traumatologist who takes on the toughest cases. If he's not interested, nobody else will be. He's our last hope!
The clinic is located at Suvorov Street 21, Orsk. We took a taxi, and my cat was in a carrier. During the consultation, the doctor warned us that he couldn't guarantee a 100% positive outcome, given my cat's age (over 10 years). We needed to be prepared for anything. We agreed to go ahead with the operation.
As it turned out, the cat also needed to be spayed! But in our town, no vet would agree to do the procedure. Instead, they recommended hormone shots, which ended up causing a disastrous outcome. Cats can be spayed at any age, and we'll definitely do it when we can. Unfortunately, we can't be in two places at once.
When we were waiting in line, my cat started getting anxious in her carrier. She sensed she was in a clinic! What's interesting is that there were other owners with their pets, including dogs and cats of different breeds and sizes. The animals didn't bother each other – no hissing, no scratching, no barking...
I took my cat out of the carrier, gave her a hug, and we waited for our turn. The clinic has a reception area, a consultation room, and an operating theater. The clinic is cozy and small, with a pleasant air freshener scent. There's a photo of animals on the wall. There's a table where you can take your pet out of the carrier or put them in one.
The clinic has scales for pet owners to use. You can weigh your pet there. There's a plasma TV on the wall, so waiting isn't as boring. You can watch music videos, and the sound isn't too loud. Sometimes the queue is so long that you have to wait outside. But I noticed something amazing on the railing – a dog running to get help!
We needed to visit the clinic several times before the operation. First, they treated my cat's inflammation and gave her vitamin injections to boost her immunity. Only then was the operation scheduled for a specific date and time.
Before the operation, my cat was given anesthesia. She fell asleep quickly and without any issues. We followed all the doctor's recommendations and prepared our cat in advance.
After anesthesia, cats or dogs can become very aggressive. Our Maru tried to bite me. I treated the wound immediately, and it healed quickly. But it's essential to know this and be aware of it. Animals after anesthesia aren't in their right minds.
We waited with her in a children's room behind a closed door. I laid a blanket on the floor, as cats might fall off a bed or couch and get hurt. For some reason, I wanted to cover her with a soft blanket – she loves warmth.
In the clinic, they put a cone on her head. In the first few hours, she kept trying to run away! But she couldn't and kept falling onto her side. As the doctor warned, we got a drunk cat who wanted to go somewhere. The photo shows her fur looking terrible – greasy, matted, and unkempt, one word: neglected.
After the surgery, I had to take care of the stitches myself. To prevent my cat from messing with them, I had to wear a cone of shame nonstop – that's until the stitches were removed.
My cat didn't take kindly to the cone, and she only lasted a couple of days before she got frustrated and shredded the thing to pieces! What's a cat owner to do? I had to take an old t-shirt, hem it down to size, and voilà! My cat was happy to wear it, and I was relieved to have a solution. It took some finagling, but I managed to get it to stay on her until the stitches were healed.
The stitches healed just fine, and my cat started to get back to her old self. She was eating normally again, and she even started to get her energy back. She'd run around the house, knock things over, and sleep like a baby at night – with her back legs tucked under her, of course! It was like she never had surgery at all.
Now, she's back to her old self, and I couldn't be happier. Her fur is soft and fluffy, and she's lost all that extra weight. She's eating like a normal cat again, and she's even got her playful spark back.
I love watching my cat sleep. It's the cutest thing in the world. Sometimes I manage to snap a photo or two, and they always make me laugh. There's something so adorable about a sleeping cat with its eyes slightly open, making little snoring noises or yawning.
When it comes down to it, my cat is more than just a pet – she's a member of the family. I worry about her just as much as I do my own kids.
If you're reading this and you're in a similar situation, don't hesitate to seek help from a professional. Unfortunately, there's no veterinary care to speak of in my area – Novotroitsk, that is. If you're in the same boat, I'd recommend checking out the neighboring city for some quality care.
