Hello everyone!
My cat Nusha has been eating Hills Science Plan with Chicken for years now, and I never had any issues with it. She's always felt great.
But due to the sanctions, the supply of the food stopped, and I had to figure out what to feed my cat. She doesn't eat human food from the table unless it's boiled chicken, and even then, just a little bit.
When I visited the pet store, the salesperson recommended trying the domestic dry food Blitz. A friend of mine raved about the brand, so I decided to give it a shot.
I picked up a small pack of the dry food Blitz Sterilised Adult Classic with Chicken.
I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the food is produced on order by Akana, a Canadian brand that produces premium-class food that meets international standards.
Key details:
Where I bought it: pet store KakaduPrice at the time of purchase: 340 rublesProduction: RussiaNet weight: 400 gramsProduction date: 15/12/2023Shelf life: 18 months from the production dateFlavor: chicken
Packaging and presentation:
I've got to say, I like the packaging of Blitz - it's small, cute, and has a picture of a cat on the front. The cat itself is a bit of a grump, but I'm a fan of the overall design. The packaging is sturdy, nicely done, and looks just as good as some of the imported stuff I've seen.
One thing that's bugging me is that the packaging doesn't have a zip closure. There's a risk that the food might dry out quickly. So, I've had to get creative and use paper clips or a binder clip to seal the package.
The Blitz formula is:
Dehydrated chicken meat (30%), whole corn, hydrolyzed protein, whole rice, dried beetroot, hydrolyzed and dehydrated liver, chicken fat, albumin, vitamin and mineral complex (vitamins: A, D3, E, choline chloride, betaine, B3, B5, B2, B1, B6, folic acid, B12, potassium, zinc, iron, manganese, copper, iodine, selenium, taurine), corn germ, dehydrated egg, yeast - source of mannan-oligosaccharides (MOS), dried apples, flaxseed, fish oil, cranberries, antioxidant, DL-methionine, L-carnitine, rosemary and fennel extracts, topinambur, probiotic - live microorganisms Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus licheniformis, Sida cordifolia extract, fucus extract.
I like that the manufacturer lists the percentage of meat in the food - it's not something you see often. There's not as much meat as I'd like, but at least we know how much is there. Maize isn't my top pick at first glance, as it's a bit of a tough sell for some cats and can cause allergies. But my cat seems to handle it just fine, so I'm not too fussed about it.
The food does contain some great gut-friendly and coat-enhancing ingredients, plus a bunch of vitamins – that's all a plus in my book.
There's also a handy little label on the packaging with recommended feeding guidelines based on your cat's weight:
Texture, color, smell:
The kibble is nice and small, with a slightly rounded shape – it's a bit smaller than our usual Hills. The color is a lovely yellow-brown. The smell is really pleasant, not too overpowering – it's actually quite similar to our previous cat food.
My experience with Blitz Sterilised Adult Classic with chicken:
Even in the pet store, the girl warned me to transition my cat to the new food gradually – you know, by mixing it in with the old Hills. I have to say, when I bought my cat Hills cat food with the black cat on the packaging, she flat-out refused to eat it...
But with the new Blitz, it was a whole different story. I didn't mix it with the leftover old food, and instead served the new Blitz straight away. My cat immediately went to the bowl and started eating! Right away!!! Without any fuss, because my Nusha is quite a picky eater!
She can definitely smell the chicken. If there's chicken involved, she's guaranteed not to turn her nose up at the food.
So, in short, Nusha really enjoyed the Blitz. She crunches away happily. Then she's off, prancing around the flat, looking pleased with herself. Her stool's back to normal, and she's feeling like her usual self, with a good mood to boot.
Let me wrap things up.
The benefits of Blitz Sterilised cat food:
