Hand soap's become a staple in our household, right up there with liquid soap. Each family member's got their own preference when it comes to washing their hands and showering. My daughter and I are both big fans of liquid soap and body wash, but the boys swear by the solid stuff, and the main reason is that it doesn't leave their skin feeling sticky or covered in a residue.
I thought maybe I was just being paranoid, so I brought it up with some of my girlfriends, and it turns out they all have the same experience with their partners, sons, brothers, and dads.
I'm all about respecting people's preferences, so we've got both types of soap in the bathrooms, showers, and bathtubs. There's just one place where you won't find the solid soap: the kitchen. And let me get one thing straight - I'm a solid soap convert, too, especially after coming in from outside. For some reason, I find that liquid soap doesn't quite do the job when it comes to killing bacteria, and the solid stuff is just more thorough when it comes to cleaning my skin.
I've noticed we're always running out of the chunky soap options way faster than the liquid ones. It's clear it's a fan favorite, even though my daughter and I keep saying we prefer the liquid kind - but our hands always seem to gravitate towards the chunky soap. I usually buy soap in sets, as we need to distribute it across five different locations. However, sometimes I like to treat myself to a single soap that's just amazing to smell, not just for its cleaning properties but also for the aromatherapy aspect. So, I decided to splurge on a more expensive option, hoping it would live up to my expectations... but unfortunately, it didn't.
THE BASICS
I bought it at Ashan, where I couldn't resist the attractive discount on this soap series, and I just had to grab it for the price. The price was 80 rubles and 90 kopeks, with the full price being 117 rubles.
The brand is BioMio, a Russian eco-friendly household chemicals brand owned by OOO "Splat-Kosmetika".BioMio is a Russian brand that specializes in eco-friendly household chemicals, and I was excited to try their soap.
The soap is meant to be a natural, gentle cleanser. The scent is mango, which I was really looking forward to, but unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to my expectations. The weight is 90 grams, which is a nice size for a single soap.PACKAGING
This soap really stands out on store shelves thanks to its unique packaging, which is made of sturdy cardboard instead of flimsy paper or plastic.
On the other side, you'll find a wealth of information with detailed descriptions, ingredients, and manufacturer details. Product DescriptionBioMio Superfood soap is a natural, vegan option that gently cleanses your skin without leaving it feeling tight. The soap contains mango butter, which is a rich, nourishing ingredient that helps to moisturize and repair your skin's natural barrier.
The addition of orange essential oil gives the soap a uplifting scent, while the presence of silver ions provides a gentle antibacterial effect. It's like a tropical getaway in a bar of soap!
Ingredients
Sodium palmate, sodium palm kernelate, water, glycerin, mango butter, tocopherol, orange essential oil, silver citrate, citric acid, sodium chloride, natural fragrance, CI 77891, CI 15510, tetrasodium EDTA, linalool*, limonene*.
The packaging of the product is impressive, with a detailed breakdown of the ingredients on the cardboard box - a feature that's not often seen.
On one of the side panels, you'll find the information in two other languages. On the other three sides, you'll see the BioMio brand logo. The cardboard box is sealed on all sides with tape. You can easily open the cardboard packaging from any side, but it's not possible to do so discreetly, as the paper will start to tear. THE EXTERNAL APPEARANCE OF THE SOAPThe soap itself is an orange pumpkin-like color, with an oval shape and the BioMio brand name embossed on the front.
I've gotta say, I love the shape of this soap - it fits perfectly in my hand and slides easily between my fingers without any annoying stickiness. The back of the soap has a nice oval indentation. The soap has a rim around the edges that's prone to getting rid of excess soap, and I've noticed some of it just falls off on its own, while the rest wears away as I wash my hands.
ORGANOLEPTICSThe soap itself looks pretty great - I've got nothing bad to say about its appearance. It looks nice on the soap dish and the bright orange color is a definite mood booster.
To be honest, everything seems great about this soap at first – it's got a comfortable ergonomic shape and a nice color, but then where's the scent? It smells like regular soap with a barely noticeable fragrance, kinda like the smell of packaged fruit juice, not like the sweet aroma of mango. This is my second soap from this brand, and the first one was Superfood with persimmon oil and shea butter, which I didn't like either because of the scent. When I commented on it, the brand representative replied: ...we only use natural essential oils to give it a scent, so it might not be very strong
What's really interesting is that many people have noticed that this soap doesn't have a strong scent and smells like regular soap, but they still give it five stars – it's misleading consumers. This soap isn't cheap, but it smells like a budget soap. My husband even said, 'You're skimping on soap again? You're just buying a cheap one without a scent because it's on sale?' That's not a pleasant situation, especially considering the price. I was convinced that this one would have a great scent, just like the persimmon oil version. The lather is amazing, though. Just rub the soap between your palms a few times and you'll get a light, airy, and fluffy lather.
I was surprised by how well the soap lathered up, just like when I'm washing a loofah ball. I only need to apply a small amount of soap to the mesh, add a bit of water, and I'm left with a massive head of foam.
But here's the thing - this soap stains the loofah with its orange pigment, and I sometimes use this soap for tougher stains on clothes, but not for washing delicate whites. When I wash my hands, it's also clear that the loofah isn't white, it's got an orange tint to it. And that orange pigment can be mistaken for dirt - I mean, after a day out, our hands are often covered in dirt and grime, and the loofah can end up looking dark, but this is just the soap's color showing through. Although the loofah from the soap is actually a lot whiter, it's probably because it's less dense and the pigment from the soap is washed off more easily. USAGE
This soap is mainly used by my family for washing our hands, and it's been a bit of a challenge to get used to the orange tintIt glides smoothly between palms, quickly forming a rich lather that does a great job of cleaning hands from dust and city grime.
Yeah, there's hardly any scent to speak of - you can barely catch a whiff of it from the soap itself, but during washing, it just smells like regular soap, thank goodness, not harsh soap.
The smell doesn't linger on the skin, and after washing my hands, they don't smell of anything.
Not always, but sometimes I get this feeling of dryness after washing my hands, which is normal, I guess - the brand rep actually mentioned it in their response to my review of another soap.
...Due to the presence of natural ingredients, there might be a slight dryness to the skin.
I've got normal skin on my hands, and I didn't experience any discomfort after washing my hands, and I didn't always feel the need to go slather on some cream. It's just a slight feeling of my skin being a bit tight, but it's not a big deal.
I was really impressed with how well this soap held its shape even after it got wet. The oval shape remained intact, and the color stayed vibrant. It didn't crack or become too soft, which was a nice surprise., THE VERDICTI'd definitely recommend this soap to others. It's vegan, has a great shape, and a lovely color. My only gripe is that the scent wasn't quite what I was expecting, so I'm knocking off a star. Also, keep in mind that it's a chunk soap, which can dry out your hands, but it's not a major issue for me.
This soap does an amazing job of cleaning my hands, leaving them feeling squeaky clean and refreshed. You can really feel the dirt and grime being washed away.
