summarizeEditor's Summary

I've been in your shoes - dealing with those pesky bed bugs is no joke. After a year-long battle, I've learned a thing or two about what works and what doesn't. From steam cleaners to gas masks, I'll share my honest experience and the pros and cons of using these tools to get rid of bed bugs for good. With a combination of the Bort BDR-2300-R steam cleaner and a gas mask, I thought I'd finally won the war. But, as it turned out, the real challenge was dealing with my neighbors who refused to take action. In this review, I'll give you a detailed rundown of my experience, including the good, the bad, and the ugly. I'll share my tips on how to use a steam cleaner effectively, including the importance of wearing a gas mask and using it in a well-ventilated area. I'll also discuss the build quality of the steam cleaner, its battery life, and the shipping time. Additionally, I'll cover the return policy and customer support, which left a lot to be desired. So, if you're tired of dealing with bed bugs and want to know what works and what doesn't, keep reading.

I'm guessing some of you are nodding your heads in recognition right now - those pesky bed bugs have been a nightmare for many of us. If you've ever had to deal with them, you probably know exactly what I'm talking about. And if you've managed to get rid of them, you might even be smiling wryly in memory of the ordeal you went through.
I actually wrote a review about a year ago on the Bort BDR-2300-R which is essentially a steam cleaner that we bought to tackle the bed bug problem head-on.
In that review, I went into detail about how we used it to fight the bed bugs and what the outcome was.
At the time, we gave them a good scare and they seemed to have disappeared for good. But as it turned out, they weren't gone for good. It all boiled down to our neighbors above us (a lovely elderly couple) not really caring about the bed bugs, and not being willing to do anything about it. We've offered to help them with the problem multiple times, even offering to pay for the treatment, but they just don't seem to see it as an issue.
So, we've had to resort to periodic battles against the bed bugs, with our own little victories along the way.
The latest infestation happened when we started renovating our place. We stripped the wallpaper, and were planning to go beyond just applying a coat of primer to the concrete walls and actually level them out. But we didn't get around to it right away, and that's when we spotted a bed bug on the concrete wall.
bed bug on concrete wallIt turned out that the bed bugs had made themselves at home in the tiny holes in the concrete wall. There was practically one in every hole!
We started going through the entire room, and I decided to give the steam cleaner a good run-through, and that's when I decided to check the closet.
And that's when I found...

Clover eggs on clothing
Clover eggs on clothing
In the closet, in the cornersI realized then that I needed to bring in the big guns – and again, spray the chemical solution – because if I missed any of them with my point-blank shots from the steam generator, they'd just reproduce to their former levels.
But we hit the May holidays, and most offices told us they'd be back to work after 10. But before 10, they'd have reproduced even more, and even had time to hatch...
So, I took matters into my own hands. I didn't have time to go shopping, so I went online – sometimes it's faster, easier, and even cheaper.
I went on Ozon, and found this aerosol sprayer for clovers – the 'Raptor' – professional clover extermination.
It cost me 284 rubles on sale.
I decided to give the Raptor a try, and another product – just in case the Raptor didn't work. I'll write a review about the other product later; for now, I haven't even tried it.
So, the Raptor. It arrived from Ozon super fast – I ordered it today, and picked it up tomorrow.
They sent the order in a non-transparent box – you can't see what's inside. Much better than a transparent package, actually.)
This is good – there's nothing to be ashamed of, but you still feel a bit awkward when receiving it...
Inside the package - the ordered goods.
The 225ml bottle.
As promised by the manufacturer, the spray will reliably protect us from bed bugs, containing two active ingredients.
But I had another problem - I'm allergic, and I'm not supposed to use these sorts of things. My husband immediately refused, saying it's better to wait until after the holidays and call in the professionals. But I decided to give it a shot... The instructions say:
Precautions: High-pressure container! Do not use near electrical appliances or open flames. Use as directed, work only in rubber gloves and with windows or vents open. Do not spray near open flames or hot objects. Avoid getting it in your eyes or on your skin. After use, wash your hands with soap and rinse your mouth with water. If it gets on your skin, treat with a 2% baking soda solution; if it gets in your eyes, flush with water or treat with a 2% baking soda solution; if it irritates, apply a 50% sulfacetamide sodium solution. Use with caution in people with allergic reactions.
I'll be honest, as someone who's prone to allergic reactions, I was terrified to use it at first.
But then I thought, why not try searching for a gas mask on online classifieds instead of a respirator? That was a great idea - within an hour, I found a brand new gas mask with a filter for 100 rubles that had been slightly worn out, but only on the surface. The stains on the mask didn't bother me, though - I wasn't planning on wearing it outside anyway. What mattered was that it worked.
My husband and I even tested it on the spot to make sure.
When I got home, I washed the mask, but the stains remained. I guess they were just ingrained over time. The inside of the mask was still spotless, though.
I put on my rubber gloves, pants, socks, a wetsuit with a hood, the gas mask, and got to work cleaning the room.Cleaning the room in a gas mask is a breeze - you can see everything, breathe easily, and it's easy to aim the spray. Nothing drips or splashes onto your face, and there's no smell at all. It's a great experience, and I'm really happy with it.
After I finished cleaning, I took off all my gear and headed for the shower.
One time, I was feeling lazy and didn't bother putting on the wetsuit with the long hood, so I just wore a dress instead. Big mistake - the cleaning solution got on my skin and triggered an allergic reaction. I won't be making that mistake again.
So, what did I learn from this experience?
1. The product works.
I could already see the results by the evening of that day - the room was crawling with dead pests, and they were all over the walls.
xa0
2. The product is toxic.
I have to say, I broke out in a massive allergic reaction the moment I came into contact with it. It's a must to use protective gear when handling this stuff.
When you leave the room after treatment, it's like a fog. You can see it in your mask, but the smell is completely gone.
Working in a mask is a great idea.
This way, your airways, eyes, and mouth are fully protected.
You can even work with windows closed, which makes it even more effective. I opened the windows about an hour after treatment.
This stuff is NOT cheap. Despite the manufacturer's claims that one bottle covers at least 20 square meters, I found that one bottle barely covered my 15 square meter daughter's room, and I still had to do two-thirds of the job.
I applied it evenly, 15 cm away from the walls, just like the instructions said.
In the end, I had to reorder, and for our entire 55 square meter apartment, we needed four bottles.
Another great thing is that, besides the dead cockroaches, when I washed the walls with soap water, I started finding live cockroaches that were completely paralyzed - they didn't move or try to escape. It's clear that the product worked.
The first night after treatment, we didn't sleep at home - we went to my parents' place. We were told that 30 minutes of ventilation would be enough, but we didn't take any chances.
So, what can we conclude? The product works. We've gone almost a week without any issues.
After two weeks, which is how long it takes for the eggs to hatch, we'll do a second treatment and be able to finish the repair.
But for now, I'm grateful that we don't see any signs of the pests, and the kids' bites have stopped.
I'd give this product 5 stars and definitely recommend it, but make sure to follow all the precautions I mentioned earlier.
Good luck with your own battle!
