BBC's 'Franchise' Falls Flat

summarizeEditor's Summary

I was stoked to dive into 'Franchise', a new BBC show, but unfortunately, it didn't quite hit the mark. The first episode was hilarious and fast-paced, but as the series went on, I found myself losing interest. The behind-the-scenes look at movie production was a highlight, but it felt a bit over-the-top for my taste. I've seen other great shows like 'The Thaw' and 'Crowded' that really grabbed my attention, so maybe I'm just not the target audience for 'Franchise'. Either way, it's a clever comedy that pokes fun at the film industry, even if it's not my cup of tea.

I'm a big fan of the BBC, so when I heard about 'Franchise', I was excited to give it a try. The first episode was hilarious, fast-paced, and had some great one-liners. I was hooked, but what really caught my attention was the behind-the-scenes look at how a movie is made. It's chaos, plain and simple. From the producers to the actors to the extras, everyone's running around like headless chickens. I've been on a few sets in my time, and I can tell you that it's not all glamour and glory. In fact, it's a lot more mundane than you'd think. The show does a good job of capturing the mayhem, but it's all a bit exaggerated for my taste. I've seen some other great shows, like 'The Thaw' directed by Valery Todorovsky, and 'Crowded', a British series from 2005-2007, which were both really engaging. But 'Franchise' just didn't hold my interest after the second episode. It's got a lot of flash, but not a lot of substance. That being said, I do have to give it credit where credit is due: it's a clever comedy that pokes fun at the film industry. If you're a fan of that kind of thing, you might enjoy it. But for me, it was a total letdown. I think what really put me off was that the show doesn't really grab you - it's shallow, and there's no standout character. Everyone's just a caricature, if you know what I mean. So, if you're looking for something that'll really draw you in, this might not be the show for you. I wouldn't say it's worth every penny, sorry to say.
