Astronaut Star Light Projector Review
I recently got this super cool nightlight for my younger nieces as a New Year's gift. It's a projector that displays a starry sky and also doubles as a USB Bluetooth speaker. I bought it at a toy store in a mall for 1500 rubles.
Based on the packaging, this product is called Astronaut Star Light and is made in China. I'd like to note that in Russia, space explorers are called cosmonauts, but the rest of the world calls them astronauts. I'll be using the term astronaut for this toy.
The idea behind this nightlight projector is to help kids fall asleep. Plus, it's supposed to spark their interest in the starry sky and space from a young age, which is awesome for the next generation.
The projector is shaped like an astronaut in a white spacesuit. The material feels nice to the touch, and it's a pleasant plastic. The astronaut stands on a static base, but you can control his hands and head - the hands a bit, and the head can rotate 360 degrees. I stumbled upon a useful tip: the head can actually be detached from the body using a strong magnet, and then it becomes a standalone item. Although, from an ethical standpoint, it might not be the best idea to show a decapitated astronaut to kids. But hey, that's a hack that might not come in handy.
The astronaut has a big helmet with dark glass. All the projecting devices are located on the astronaut's head: the main device is behind the dark protective glass, and the secondary one is on top of the helmet. It all looks pretty realistic and organic from a space gear perspective.
The astronaut is a music player. The speaker is located in the center of the astronaut's chest. The sound produced by the toy is nice and clear without any issues. What's more, my model of the astronaut has 1 megabyte of internal memory, which is enough to store eight pre-installed soundtracks:
Mountain BrookCampfireA pleasant harp soundA nighttime forest with various forest creatures, including cricketsWaterfallAfrican savannah sounds with lions and other animalsRiverbankChristmas melodies from a music boxEven if you don't know how to use a smart device, you can still listen to all these soundtracks without any Bluetooth hassle. The built-in soundtracks are looped, so if you play, for example, the nighttime forest soundtrack, you can listen to it all night long. I really liked the campfire soundtrack - it's like you're sitting in the woods, surrounded by an endless starry sky, and a small campfire is crackling next to you, warming and soothing your nerves.
Bluetooth's not an afterthought here - the Astronavt connects easily to any Bluetooth source, and it's a joy to stream music from my phone. For me, cosmic music is all about Space's 'Didier Morin' tracks, and that's what I listened to while projecting the stars in the Astronavt's display. I loved it, but I think it's worth noting that slower tracks really work better when you're gazing at the stars - the rhythms get lost in the vastness.
Astronavt - projector. My ceiling's got a dropped ceiling, so you can see the lights in the photos.
When the Astronavt's in projection mode, the ceiling's a never-ending cosmic wonderland of effects, glows, and stars. The rotating head lets you aim the projection at any part of the room - even the floor, if you want.
You can leave a static image or make the nebulae and galaxies swap out in a mesmerizing display of color.
Powering the device. It's a battery inside, so no capacity's mentioned, but it lasts all evening.
The Astronavt's got a space-age backpack with a Type-C charging socket on the right side - any charger with 2A or more will do.
What's in the box.
The Astronavt, remote control, charging cable (Type-C), and an English-language manual.
Remote control. I'll be honest - without it, you'll miss out on 60% of the Astronavt's cosmic magic. So, keep it safe and make sure it's working properly. You'll need to buy two AAAs for it, as they're not included.
I love how the main buttons are right on the device, just like on a TV. But to unlock all the amazing features, you need to hold the remote control in your hand.
The stars can be turned off, the moon can be disabled – it's all so cool. You can control the color of the celestial objects, make them all blue or white, for example, or red and green. Even the background music can be switched. I'm not even kidding, the pulsating star effect in sync with the music is a blast. You can also adjust the fading or brightening of the nebulae. Honestly, I'm still discovering all the effects and tricks of this thing, but our little ones will have no problem figuring it out – they're smarter than us, anyway. And, oh yeah, the remote has a timer, so you can set it to turn off the device after 1 or 2 hours, when the kid probably falls asleep.
Disclaimer. As always, I'm thinking about safety, especially when it comes to kids. One of the projection sources is a laser – relatively low power, but a laser nonetheless. Keep an eye on your kids when they're playing with the astronaut; remind them to never point it directly at their eyes.
The Astronaut Star Light projector – music player is a must-have for kids and adults alike. Everyone will be amazed.
Good luck with your purchases! capitan Grant
