ASC Service: A Total Nightmare of Overcharging and Misrepresentation

summarizeEditor's Summary

I've been a camera enthusiast for 25 years, and my experience with ASC Service has been a total disaster. I've dealt with overcharging, misrepresentation, and a complete lack of transparency. They've got fancy tech, but when it comes to customer service, they're a total letdown. I've been burned by their inflated prices and subpar repair work. ASC Service has left me feeling frustrated and disappointed. I've had it with their poor communication and lack of accountability. If you value your camera and your wallet, stay far, far away from ASC Service. They'll nickel and dime you with unnecessary repairs, and their diagnostic fees are outrageous. The staff isn't very knowledgeable about camera repair, and they've got a bad habit of overcharging for parts. Their communication is terrible – you'll be left in the dark. And don't even get me started on their warranties and guarantees – you're on your own if something goes wrong after the repair. I've tried to get a refund, but good luck with that – they'll fight you every step of the way.

I'm a total photo enthusiast, and I've always been passionate about capturing life's precious moments with my camera. With 25 years of experience around digital tech and a stint with film cameras, I thought I knew a thing or two about what makes a good camera.
Over time, I've had to replace some parts and send others in for service, so I've seen my fair share of repair shops.
I've already written a review for the Nikon COOLPIX S9900 – it's a unique model that I've come to appreciate more and more each year: 30x zoom, macro, slow-motion, video without distortion, compact design (289g), and instant focus.
It's getting tough to find a camera like that, so I've decided to repair mine – I have two of them.
Before this, I'd been taking my camera to the 'Tech Pros' service on Brestskaya Street for five years – their team of professionals was top-notch.
Unfortunately, they've closed down, and when I called them, they told me to go to a different location – supposedly, it's the same company, just rebranded. They gave me an address in Moscow: Chayanova 18.
ASC Service, Moscow, Chayanova 18
Using my GPS, I managed to figure out where to go – in the basement, there are several reception points for other services and marketplaces.
At first, I was hesitant, as I wanted to see a quiet, welcoming place where they'd take my camera, process the repair, and explain everything to me. I was hoping to see some certificates, awards, or even a feedback log.

What I got instead was a cacophony of noise, arguments, and a crowd of people. It was like walking into a repair shop for audio-visual equipment, scooters, vacuum cleaners, heaters, and just about everything else under the sun – all crammed into a small corridor in the basement.
ASC Service г. Москва, улица Чаянова, 18 I've gotta say, it's pretty wild to think about how many specialists they must need on staff.
I went there six months ago, and oh man, they've changed a lot since then. Now they're called ASC Service, and there are tons of positive reviews.
But I was there in person, and let me tell you, I saw the whole operation.
While I was there, two guys came in to pick up their gear, and when the price was announced, they offered them a lower price on the spot. I guess it's all about saving time and avoiding a long commute. And hey, they'll still charge you 2000 rubles for the diagnosis, no matter what.
ASC Service г. Москва, улица Чаянова, 18 Next up was me. These days, it seems like they've got regular girls working the front desk who have no idea about the tech side of things. That's already a minus in my book.
They processed my two cameras, and then announced the diagnosis. Let's just say it's going to take me 8 hours to get there, round-trip.

I'm still waiting for the verdict. Alexander, the guy who called me, said it's going to be 12,300 rubles to fix just one of my cameras. Apparently, it needs a new shutter button, a new button cable, and some new power cable wiring.
I was floored by the repair quote from another service - 740 rubles for an electromechanical fix and 500 rubles for a shutter button replacement, totaling 1240 rubles.
That's a far cry from the 12,300 rubles they ended up charging me...
The cost of cleaning my camera (which they attributed to water damage) was also tacked on, although I never actually got around to fixing it, opting for a temporary replacement instead.

Later, I spoke with the administrator and a passing technician. My tone was indignant, theirs condescending and dismissive. It's clear they're used to dealing with customers like me on a daily basis, and they've honed their skills at deflecting questions and justifying their prices.
I managed to capture our conversation on video - they didn't know I was recording it, having seen a few other unsuspecting customers get taken for a ride.
When I reviewed the contract, I saw the initial diagnosis fee of 750 rubles, but I was still unclear on what exactly that entailed.
The recommended repair cost or replacement details were nowhere to be found, and I only have the video as evidence of their outrageous price hike.
They also asked me how much I was willing to pay, to which I replied that I was done with their service. There were a few more... let's call them 'interesting' moments, but I'd rather not rehash the entire ordeal.
You'll hear the rest of the story in the video.

I wouldn't recommend this service to anyone, and I'm not buying the positive reviews. It's all just a scam.
Their scheme is ridiculously simple: they overcharge for repairs by 5-10 times, the client backs out, and they either just charge for diagnostics (which they may not have even done) or find some 'Kulibin' who'll do a great job and get a cut of the money. They've got that down to a science. (And I've had another issue since - I'll describe it later)
Don't bother reaching out to them with any questions unless you're one of their employees or friends writing fake reviews.
Folks, even if you don't want to bend the truth, the 'down' finger speaks for itself - they won't lie about that. This is just one example review.

They've got tons of phone numbers listed online, and they all seem to be different.
