  • The pacing's pretty good, with a nice balance of action, drama, and humor.
  • The themes of responsibility and power are timely and thought-provoking.
  • The animation's not the worst I've seen, and the backgrounds are actually pretty nice.

remove_circle Cons

  • The animation's not exactly top-notch, and it can be a bit jarring at times.
  • The characters' motivations can be a bit hard to follow, especially in the early episodes.
  • The story's not particularly original, and it borrows a bit too heavily from other anime.
  • The villains are a bit one-dimensional and lack any real depth.
  • The ending's a bit rushed and doesn't quite tie everything together.

Editor's Summary

I gotta say, I went into this anime with low expectations, but it ended up being a lot better than I thought. The story's got some great moments, and the characters are relatable, even if they're not super original. The animation's not the best, but it's not terrible either. Overall, it's a solid watch, especially if you're a fan of the genre.

I'm glad you're here, folks who share my love for the finer things in life and chose to read this review). I watched this anime, and honestly, I was expecting a whole lot worse. I mean, based on the reviews, I thought it was going to be some kind of disaster that I'd rather not deal with. But, surprisingly, it turned out to be even a little better than I thought. I'm not going to say it's super, but it's not a total flop either. Of course, the animation isn't exactly top-notch, it looks a bit cheap, but it's not so bad that it makes your eyes water. I mean, I didn't feel like I was watching through my fingers, like I do with some other shows.

Anime "Mag-Deceiver from Another World / Isekai Cheat Magicia" (2019). The main characters, Taichi and Rin, are your average high school students, nothing special, but one day they find themselves in a different reality where magic and swords reign supreme. It all starts with them just studying for school and dreaming about their future, when suddenly they get transported to this fantasy world. The shock of being in a strange new reality quickly gives way to a fight for survival when monsters start attacking them. After a tough but successful battle, the guys decide they need to find a way back home as soon as possible.

However, their plans quickly change when they meet a group of adventurers who offer them a spot in their guild. Taichi and Rin realize they can't just go back home, so they need to adapt to this new life. And just as they decide to take the offer and join the guild, they unexpectedly discover they have incredible magical abilities that make them almost the strongest mages in this world.

Now they have to figure out what's going on with their new powers, learn magic, and adjust to a harsh world full of monsters and adventures. But, on top of that, they'll be facing various challenges and meeting people who are willing to use their powers for their own gain.

Now, about the characters. The main guy is a whole different story. He's kind of strange: he tries to be heroic, but in reality, he has no idea how to act in most situations. For example, the scene where he fights an enemy who's clearly stronger than him, but he doesn't try to take out his boss - that's just awful. Or this moment where he supposedly gives up his humanity, but really he's just using more power. Come on, who does that?

Azuma Rin is Taichi's childhood friend who got transported to this new world along with him. Like him, Rin soon discovers she has magical abilities. Her unique ability to use spells from all four elements makes her a powerful mage. Rin always has Taichi's back and becomes an important ally to him. Despite her strength, she remains kind and caring, often helping friends and actively participating in solving the problems the group faces.

Taichi Nishimura is the main protagonist who, like Rin, ends up in a different world. A regular high school student, he quickly realizes his life is about to change drastically. Taichi becomes one of the strongest mages thanks to discovering his unique magical abilities. Despite his strength, he remains a bit naive and doesn't always know how to act in complex situations, which leads to a significant number of problems he tries to solve alongside Rin.

Levia is a mage known as the 'Leaf Mage' who becomes Taichi and Rin's mentor in this new world. Levia teaches them magic and helps them master their abilities. She's a master of three magic schools, making her extremely powerful and respected in this world. Despite her strength, Levia is characterized by her calmness and wisdom, helping the heroes not only with magic but also with adapting to their new life conditions.

Muryu is an elf who was one of Levia's former students, skilled in magic from two elements. She quickly bonds with Rin and becomes her close friend and magic mentor. Muryu helps Rin understand magic, especially her ability to work with four elements. Her friendly nature and experience with magic make her a valuable ally to the main characters, and her elfish background adds a unique charm to her character.

As for the storyline, it's got its problems too. The whole season is basically the same: battles against some minions of an unknown 'lady' who wants to recruit the main protagonist. I mean, this recruitment situation where the enemies, who literally said they'd kill everyone in the city just yesterday, are now being let go and allowed to work as adventurers... It's just absurd. And the moments with the assassins who are just released and allowed to work as adventurers... It doesn't quite make sense.

Okay, let's talk about the animation, the style, and all that beautiful animation that, like in most anime, is either 'wow!' or 'meh.' While it's not perfect, there are some moments that are done quite well.

I'll start with the backgrounds. They're pretty standard for the fantasy genre, but sometimes they manage to capture the atmosphere. They're not super detailed like in some top-tier titles, but they're not a complete sketch either, where you're just looking at a few blurry blobs instead of a landscape. The backgrounds aren't exactly a work of art, but they're consistent with the style. There are different types of scenery – from villages and forests to some magical locations that add to the atmosphere. The most important thing is that they don't stick out from the overall style, and you don't feel like you're looking at some random world. And yeah, you can notice that some backgrounds look more polished than the characters, but that's just nitpicking.

Anime "Mag-Obmanchik iz Drugogo Mira / Isekai Cheat Magicia" (2019). Now, let's talk about the color palette. It's pretty vibrant, which makes sense given that everything is happening in a magical world. The colors are saturated, bright, but not overwhelming, and they don't overpower the events. They use a lot of greens, browns, and golds, which fits perfectly with the world where everything is connected to nature and magic. When the heroes are fighting, the magic also fits nicely into this color palette, adding some dynamics without overloading it. Overall, the colors are done tastefully, without any unnecessary frills that might be annoying.

As for the character design, I've got to say, there's nothing particularly surprising. The main thing is that the heroes are recognizable, and their features stand out, even though they're pretty typical fantasy characters. Taichi looks like your average anime guy with a bit of a childish face and brown eyes – pretty standard traits. But Rin, on the other hand, looks more interesting. Her design immediately conveys that she's a strong but fragile girl, and her style and hairstyle give her a light, magical aura. So, even though they both look pretty generic, you can tell them apart. The heroes' outfits are pretty simple, no super complicated costumes, which is good – there's no overload of details. After all, this anime is more about magic and adventures than super complicated costumes.

Now, let's talk about the character outlines... They're pretty moderate. The lines aren't too thick, not too thin. Overall, it gives a sense of lightness in perception.

Isekai Cheat Magicia (2019) I've got to say, the character outlines blend in really well with the backgrounds, especially in those vibrant scenes. I'm not a fan of super thick outlines that jump out at you, but this one's just right – nothing to complain about. Now, the animation quality's a bit hit-or-miss. It's not terrible, but there are moments where you can tell it's not the best. I'm not talking about it being awful, but you can spot some rough patches, especially in episodes with big battles or magic effects. At first glance, everything looks smooth, but if you take a closer look, you'll see some jarring moments or areas that could've used more work. For example, when the characters use magic, it looks awesome sometimes, but in other scenes, the magic effects seem a bit flat, like they're missing depth or detail. I get that budget's not infinite, but when the action's intense, I wish I could see more fluid and thought-out movements. That's one area that could be improved.

Don't get me wrong, the animation's not bad, but it's not mind-blowing either. It's especially noticeable when you compare it to other anime with truly impressive movement and detail. But for this genre, where magic and epic moments are the focus, the animation's decent enough. You shouldn't expect some graphical miracle, but if you don't nitpick every movement and detail, you can still enjoy what's there.

The character design and styling aren't the strongest points of this anime, but they're not a deal-breaker either. It's all pretty standard, but nothing that'll blow you away.

Isekai Cheat Magicia (2019) I've gotta say, this anime's got its pros and cons, but let's break it down. The atmosphere in Isekai Cheat Magicia is pretty standard for the genre, but it's comfy and even cozy at times. You start off with a bunch of high school kids who get transported to a completely foreign world. They're initially freaking out, but then they start to realize that this world's not so bad once you get to know it. And, of course, the magic adds to the excitement. You're dropped into this fantasy world with magic, monsters, and battles, but, honestly, there's nothing particularly special about its creation. There's no deep lore or complex politics like you'd find in other titles. It's pretty straightforward: the heroes learn magic, fight monsters, go on adventures, and start building their lives. It's all pretty easy-going, which gives it a light feel.

What I personally loved, though, was how the interactions between characters and the world were built. At first, you get this light dynamic between Taichi and Rin, their relationship with each other, and how they adjust to this new world and make mistakes. It creates this warm atmosphere where you realize that everything's not as complicated as it seems, and every new step is just another adventure. Moments like these really help you get immersed in the world. Emotionally, it's all pretty harmonious, no sudden mood swings, and the atmosphere's pretty pleasant, even if it's not super deep.

On the other hand, when it comes to more intense moments, like battles, the atmosphere loses some of its momentum. Battles usually don't give you that sense of real tension because they often happen quickly and aren't always visually engaging. Sometimes it feels like they're happening in the background without much involvement. I think there could've been more emotional investment and 'overload' – for example, when the heroes are fighting powerful enemies, and you want to feel fear, excitement, or aggression, but it's just not there. Everything's too smooth, like the heroes aren't really invested in what's happening. It does slow down the atmosphere a bit, but it doesn't ruin the picture overall.

Isekai Cheat Magicia (2019) Now, let's talk about the music. There are some moments that stood out to me. The opening and closing tracks are usually the ones that leave a lasting impression, and I've got to say, Isekai Cheat Magicia didn't disappoint. The opening song is pretty upbeat, with some fantasy elements, and it sets the tone for adventure, magic, and all that jazz. It's not super original, but it's catchy enough to make you want to listen to it again.

As for the soundtrack during the actual animation, the music isn't always front and center, but it does create a nice background vibe. There are moments where the silence or a soft melody in the background really sells the atmosphere of calmness, and when the action picks up, the music gets more intense, which helps to liven things up. But, again, it's nothing revolutionary. The melodies are familiar, and you know you're not going to hear anything new in terms of music. But for a show like this, it's perfectly fine.

One thing that caught my attention was how the music is used in magic scenes. When the characters start casting spells, the background music picks up, adding a bit of grandeur to the moment, but it's not like anything earth-shattering or mind-blowing. The music is more of a supporting actor, highlighting the importance of the moment, but it doesn't really stand out on its own.

Isekai Cheat Magicia (2019) So, in the end, the music and atmosphere here are pretty standard, but, again, without anything that really blows me away. There aren't any memorable melodies that'll stick with you, and there's no atmosphere that'll make you care about every moment. It's all pretty run-of-the-mill, and, honestly, it's not bad, but it's not exactly going to elevate the show to new heights either.

That's it. It's all pretty decent, but there's definitely room for improvement, especially when it comes to creating a more immersive atmosphere. The music is actually pretty fitting for a fantasy world, it doesn't stick out, but it doesn't exactly blow me away either. So, if you're not too picky about atmosphere, you won't be too disappointed.

Anime 'The Magician from Another World / Isekai Cheat Magica' (2019). I've got to say, the analogy to 'God of High School' is pretty fitting here, especially when you think about how the characters find themselves in a foreign world and face moral dilemmas that are completely foreign to them. In this anime too, there's a moment where the heroes, while in this new world, start running into these ethical barriers, like, for example, murder.

When Taichi and Rin find themselves in this fantasy world, they're definitely not prepared for violence, especially considering they were just normal high school students before. So, for them, deciding to use their magic in battles with monsters and even people is a pretty serious moral choice. And in that sense, yeah, if you look at it from a modern human perspective, murder becomes this taboo for them, just like it is for most normal people in our time. Plus, the main character shows his reluctance to cross that line a few times throughout the anime. That's when the internal struggle starts, not just a mindless fight for victory.

Anime 'The Magician from Another World / Isekai Cheat Magica' (2019). It's interesting how, at the end of this anime, the enemy who's trying to break down the heroes' moral boundaries turns into a monster, effectively removing those restrictions. It's similar to situations in other works, like 'God of High School', where these moral frameworks and principles start to break down in the face of brutal, savage conditions. And here, you can see how morality and moral taboos are put under pressure: when violence becomes a part of survival, the heroes start losing their humanity, and the enemy turning into a monster symbolizes that.

This moment in the anime isn't as straightforward as it might seem at first glance. It's a bit more philosophical than just 'the hero must defeat the evil magician'. It's more like a physical fight, but also a moral one. And the heroes, in a way, have to overcome their 'humanity' to defeat the enemy, who doesn't have the same limitations. It actually makes you think, what moral principles they have to give up to win, and what they lose in the process.

Isekai Cheat Magicia (2019)I've got to say, the animation and artwork in this anime are pretty solid, especially when compared to other shows where the animation and battles can look cheap or unimpressive. Here, despite the fairly standard fantasy elements, the artwork looks pretty appealing. The battles are dynamic, with bright magical effects that make each moment more engaging, and you can see the world of magic clashing with reality on screen. It's not a masterpiece, but it's at least enjoyable to watch, and those moments make the experience feel more alive and vibrant.

Isekai Cheat Magicia (2019)Overall, if you're not looking for a super deep story and can overlook some absurd moments, you can watch this without feeling like you've wasted your time. But relaxing and genuinely enjoying it? That's a different story. There are just too many holes in the plot and ridiculous plot twists. 7 out of 10 - it's a solid middle-of-the-road anime that will probably be forgotten in a couple of weeks. But if you're not afraid of a 'meh' anime with some absurd elements, go for it.

✅ Conclusion. Is it worth watching this anime? That's a question that depends on what you're looking for in an anime. If you enjoy fantasy with magic, battles, and traveling to other worlds, but aren't too picky about the depth of the story and character development, then this anime might be up your alley. It offers a standard package: young heroes who suddenly become powerful and find themselves in a world full of monsters and magic.

Isekai Cheat Magicia (2019) There are a few interesting moral and ethical moments, and although the story isn't particularly original, it's engaging enough to keep you hooked. If you're looking for something more profound or unique, this anime might not be your cup of tea. The characters are pretty one-dimensional, and their development is underwhelming. Additionally, despite the epic battle scenes, some moments feel overly familiar, and the conflict with the main antagonist is somewhat predictable. At times, the plot feels a bit dragged out, and it all feels like a classic isekai formula that's become popular in recent years.

Who's it for:

Fans of traditional isekai with magic, battles, and fantasy worlds.People who love coming-of-age stories and characters who start from scratch and gradually become strong.Enthusiasts of epic battles and magical fights.Who might not like it:

Those looking for more complex plot twists and character development. Those who don't enjoy standard isekai storylines and might feel like they've seen it all before. If you're particular about characters being well-rounded and complex, this title might not meet your expectations. This anime is perfect for those who just want something light and fun, without getting too hung up on deep character development. If you enjoy magic, battles, and weird creatures, you might enjoy this. But if you're looking for more complex storylines, psychological character analysis, and unexpected twists, you might want to look elsewhere.

Anime 'The Cheat Magician from Another World / Isekai Cheat Magicia' (2019). As for me, I'd say it's not a bad anime, but it's not exactly great either. It left me with mixed feelings - some things I liked, some things I didn't. But if you don't expect too much from it, it's a decent background watch to unwind.

⭐ Overall rating: 7/10. ⭐

Thanks for reading my review. I hope it was helpful, and you took something away from it. I'm wrapping things up here. 🤍
