I've been thinking about buying a photo backdrop for ages, and it's funny how a product can look completely different depending on the background image. Even the best product can look off-putting if the background is dirty or just plain ugly.
I've been making my own backdrops like this one for a while now, and it's actually pretty easy to do. I've got seven backdrops so far, but if you're writing frequently, even those can get a bit dull.
But I have to admit, I'm getting a bit bored with making my own. So, I decided to check out what Wildberry has to offer. I searched for a while, but it didn't take long to find a pack with 28 backdrops that I'll be talking about now.
Unboxing
The pack arrived in a cardboard envelope that was a bit bigger than the actual album.
The weight of the packaging with the album is 300g.
The envelope had a small sticker with some information about the product. The sticker mentioned the type of paper used, the year of production, the expiration date, and the country of origin.
I had a bit of trouble opening the envelope because it was stuck to the side.
I was a bit skeptical about how the album's design would affect the overall experience, but it turns out the opening of the cover didn't make a huge difference.
About the Album
The album itself is 28 pages of A4 format, with a booklet attached with a clip. The paper thickness is 170 g/m2, which is roughly equivalent to 80 g/m2 of standard office paper.
From what I've experienced, the paper is dense yet flexible. It's easy to fold it if you want to.
The album comes with a cover. On the front of the cover, there's the manufacturer's logo in a black-and-gray design. If you take a closer look, it looks like the name is written in chalk. There are even the same decorative chalk smudges on the background.
On the back of the cover, you'll find the product name, article number, and barcode. The cover itself features various text on a white background.
Essentially, the front and back of the cover can also serve as backgrounds.
About the Backgrounds
The paper for the backgrounds is glossy, just like a high-quality magazine.
I was really impressed by the variety of locations you can choose from - wood, sand, marble, leather, and watercolor.
Each location is available in multiple variations, so you can pick the one that suits your style - from light to dark and even colorful options.
I really appreciate that the backgrounds are all consistent in style - no fancy elements or nature scenes to distract from your photos. It's exactly what I'd do with my own DIY backgrounds, so I was happy to see this.
Using it
One of the things I love about this album is that you can flip through it either horizontally or vertically - it's up to you and what works best for your photography.
Each new page turn is perfectly coordinated, so you can easily take photos on two pages at once.
When I'm snapping something specific, like a small detail, one sheet of paper is more than enough.
Honestly, it doesn't matter what you're snapping - the manicure will look great on any of these backgrounds, or any other for that matter.
Just a photo, no manicure shown.
The key is to make sure the subject and background are roughly the same size.
Photographing isn't just for Airrecommends - it's a great way to take nice photos in general. If you're selling stuff on Avito, displaying your items on one of these backgrounds is a great idea.
Working with these backgrounds is convenient, but sometimes, when using artificial lighting, the glossy pages can create glare on the photos. You can see it for yourself in the photos.
So, you need to get creative and find a way to position yourself over the background without getting any glare.
I'm planning to get another stand to hold the sheets in place when they're positioned vertically or horizontally, so I don't have to hold them by hand.
The Verdict
Having multiple locations in the album gives me a lot of flexibility when it comes to taking photos. I don't think I'll get bored with these locations anytime soon.
P.S. It's been exactly a year since I found out about these special albums with backgrounds, and I've finally made up my mind to buy one.
