I found myself in a pretty tight spot while I was on vacation in Kislovodsk, and I needed to send a document to Moscow ASAP. I was thinking of taking the train and having a friend pick it up, but that seemed like way too much hassle. So, I did some research and stumbled upon a service offered by Russian Railways (RZhD) that let me send documents quickly and efficiently.
According to their website, I was supposed to head to the Kисловодск train station, 1st floor, to the duty assistant's office. I easily found the right room, and there was a sign outside with the following information:
The duty assistant was a friendly and super professional woman who answered all my questions. Since the office is open 24/7 (except for a 1-hour lunch break and a 1-hour nighttime break), I didn't have to worry about timing. Just be aware that there might be other passengers with their own issues.
She took my documents (which I had neatly packaged in a transparent bag) and handed me a company-branded envelope to fill out.
The envelope had all the necessary information: the recipient's name and phone number, my name and phone number.
I dictated the information to the assistant, who entered it into the computer. I then paid 950 rubles (a bit steep, but worth it for the peace of mind) and received a receipt on the spot. That's my guarantee of safety.
She even called Moscow to confirm where I could pick up the package, and I jotted down the info in my phone. She explained that there's a 50-ruble surcharge for each day the package is held beyond the initial 24 hours.
The whole process took me less than 5 minutes.
The next day, my relative picked up the package at the Yaroslavsky train station. The logistics/servicing office is open 24/7, except for a 1-hour nighttime break, so timing wasn't an issue.
The pickup process took only 1 minute.
We were thoroughly impressed with RZhD's service and will definitely use it again whenever we need to send something quickly.
I highly recommend this service to anyone in a similar situation.
