A Must-Have Starter Kit for Kids Aged 10+: Why I Love the Reaction Safety Gear for a Safe Skateboarding Experience

I'm thrilled to share that my son's dream of getting roller skates has finally come true. And what's a roller skater without protection? Only the Terminator, right? But we all know we don't live in a fairy tale, so knee pads are a must-have.

After some research, I settled on the Reaction PR113-B-S protective gear.

This protective gear set includes everything you need for a safe ride: knee pads, elbow guards, and wrist guards. The impact-resistant plastic absorbs shocks, while the foam padding provides a soft cushioning. The adjustable fastening system ensures a comfortable and secure fit.

The packaging is a simple mesh bag that tears easily when you move around, so it's not practical to use it in the long run.

There's a size chart on the cardboard insert, but I'd recommend measuring your child's legs to ensure a proper fit.

My child is 10 years old, with average-sized legs.

We opted for the smallest size S, which turned out to be a good choice, even a bit roomy.

The pads are well-made, with no loose threads or unpleasant odors.

I'll demonstrate how they fit on me, since my little one has already taken off 😊. Please note that the size S is a bit too small for me, and the pads do dig into my skin. However, they might stretch a bit with wear.

Knee pads are essentially plastic protectors with contoured shapes. They're designed to be put on by stretching and secured with two sticky pads.

They sit snugly on the knee joint and don't slip off. The contoured design allows for a comfortable range of motion. Falling on them isn't painful. They do wear down with each fall, though.

By the way, the knee joint is the most complex part of the leg, so it's essential to protect it, and not neglect its protection.

Wrist guards. They're similar to knee pads, but smaller and designed for bending and protecting your elbows.

They fit snugly. My kid falls onto their elbows the least.

The wrist protection is probably the most thought-out. It fully unfolds, goes on your thumb, and sticks with strong adhesives.

There's a special plastic insert on your palms, which slightly absorbs the impact when you fall, and helps save your hands from scrapes when they hit the ground and prevents wrist injuries.

You can remove the insert.

They fit comfortably on your wrists. Falling isn't that painful.

Of course, it's great to know how to fall properly. Knowing how to group your movements when you fall also helps. In any case, the Reaction PR113-B-S protective gear has been a great service to us.

During hot weather, you'll sweat under them. But you can wash them. The adhesives are strong and comfortable. We've had enough falls, but so far, we've managed to avoid any bruises or scrapes. I highly recommend using them for roller skating and don't forget a helmet. Recommended!
