My Go-To Detangling Brush - Tangle Teezer

I used to be a loyal customer of combs from the local market or Magnit Cosmetics, but after switching to Tangle Teezer, I haven't looked back. I'd heard of it ages ago, but I thought it was way too expensive – over a thousand rubles for a comb? I didn't get it. Plus, when I first looked into it, the versions without handles just seemed impractical. But then my old combs started to fall apart, and I needed a new one. My hairstylist friend recommended Tangle Teezer, saying it's an incredible comb that's worth every penny.

I was sold. I went for the version with a handle, the updated 'The Ultimate' one in rose pink. There are plenty of other colors available, but I was happy to get the discount that was available at the time.

The comb came in a plastic case, and all the packaging is in English, of course. But don't worry, there's some Russian on there too.

Tangle Teezer now comes in all sorts of configurations – there are ones for blow-drying, detangling, dry hair, and wet hair. Mine's for dry hair, and it says on the packaging that it's not suitable for detangling and that you shouldn't use it to blow-dry your hair. No problem there – I don't blow-dry my hair with a comb, anyway.

The original combs have a code on the packaging that lets you check its authenticity.

The first thing I loved about this detangling brush is its weight – it's incredibly light, almost unbelievable. It feels like it's around 50 grams, which is half the weight of my phone.

The brush length is about 20 cm, and it fits perfectly in my hand. The handle length is just right for a comfortable grip.

The brush is entirely plastic, but the plastic is not glossy – it's slightly textured. It doesn't slip out of my hand, even when it's wet or covered in conditioner.

It looks like a toy from a doll's hair accessory set.

The bristles are made of soft plastic and are very flexible. They come in different lengths – the longer ones are for massaging my scalp, while the shorter ones help detangle and style my hair.

I really like the hole in the middle. It makes cleaning out tangles a breeze. I just use a bobby pin to sweep out any hair that's accumulated in the center, and then I'm good to go. It's a really clever design touch. Cleaning the brush is a piece of cake – I just run it under warm soapy water, and voilà. The water doesn't get stuck in the bristles like it does with regular brushes.

My first impression when I ran a comb through my hair wasn't great. It felt weird, like I was using some kind of toy. And another thing that bugged me was the intense electrification of my hair. At the time, my hair was freshly washed and dried with a blow dryer, and after a few comb-throughs, it was literally frizzy, and my hair was sticking out in all directions and clinging to the comb. But after a day, I tried combing my hair when it wasn't freshly washed, and the electrification was gone. That's when I realized how cool it is to comb my hair with this comb. I just couldn't stop – I loved the scalp massage, it was like a tickle. My hair's not thick or long, but it's highlighted at the ends, so it always gets knotted. The Tangle Teezer handled it perfectly, even though my model says it's not designed for this.

That evening, I washed my hair and decided to try combing it when it was wet. And again, I didn't understand why it's not designed for wet hair. It combed it perfectly! Normally, when I comb wet hair, there's a ton of hair left on the comb, and then when I run my fingers through my hair, some of it comes off. With the Tangle Teezer, after a week of use, there's as much hair left on the comb as there would be on a regular comb after three days.

Regarding the electrification, I noticed that if I don't use a blow dryer, my hair doesn't get electrified as much when I comb it with this comb. But it's still there, so sometimes I just spray a little water on the comb. Maybe when the heating's off, my hair won't get electrified as much when I comb it, but I'm not sure yet.

Anyway, it combs beautifully, there's way less hair left on the comb, it doesn't tangle my hair, it doesn't irritate my scalp, and it even handles knots. Before, I was so annoyed by them that I'd often just cut them off. After four months in my home, the Tangle Teezer has never needed a trim. It's a game-changer.

I want to show you how my hair looks after using this comb. Two photos under the same conditions. One with shampoo, no conditioner or styling products, and dried with a blow dryer.

My hair's been perfectly combed and polished. It looks like it's been oiled. It's really shiny. If your hair's even better quality than mine, it'll look absolutely stunning.

I've noticed a significant reduction in split ends and breakage since using this comb. The old damage is still there, but new breakage has slowed to a near halt. It's clear that this comb isn't snapping my hair like some others.

I've also found it super easy to create high, tight ponytails with this comb. I don't do many fancy hairstyles, but I do like to tie my hair back at home. With my old combs, hair would always be coming loose from the bottom and eventually dangling around my neck. This comb gets the job done with just a few quick strokes – no stray hairs or pesky flyaways.

Since getting this comb, I've still had a few old ones hanging around, but recently I grabbed one of my old combs while rushing out the door and was shocked at how painful it was to use. The plastic teeth on my old combs were just too harsh, so I chucked them in the trash along with a couple of my other old combs. It's nice to have a spare comb on hand, so I'll be ordering another Tangle Teezer soon.

I recently had another experience with this comb that I wanted to share. I'd been suffering from a nasty headache, and I'm not a fan of taking painkillers, so I decided to try using my comb as a stress-reliever. I started combing my hair and noticed that the pain actually started to subside. I ended up sitting there for about 10 minutes, gently working the comb through my hair and even getting in some scalp massage. The warmth it brought to my head was really soothing, and by the time I was done, my headache had significantly decreased. It's possible that a regular comb could have had the same effect, but I just wasn't comfortable using it for an extended period – it was always scratching my scalp and yanking on my hair.

Kudos to the manufacturer for designing this comb with such soft teeth – I was initially hesitant due to their appearance, but they're actually really gentle and don't cause any irritation.

Finally, I wanted to mention that the manufacturer claims this comb is suitable for use on artificial hair and wigs. I've got a few wigs myself, and usually, they get pretty matted and tangled after each use – especially after a night out dancing. But with this comb, I've found it to be much gentler on my wigs. It's still a bit of a challenge to get them looking their best, but at least the comb isn't causing any unnecessary breakage or shedding.

I could go on and on about this detangling brush, but let's just say I'm not made of money. That being said, I'm not regretting my purchase of the Tangle Teezer one bit – it's definitely giving me value for money. I hope it'll keep serving me well for a long time. Honestly, I'm so happy with it that I've ditched all my old brushes and I'm not going back to them anytime soon. I'd recommend it a thousand times over.
