Kroshka-kartoshka is a well-known fast food chain found in many shopping malls across big cities. While it's a household name, it doesn't quite live up to the hype for everyone.

I've been to Kroshka-kartoshka a few times, and I've got some thoughts to share.

Last time was in Rostov-on-Don. I was craving some food and this mall's food court was pretty limited. I knew Kroshka-kartoshka, so we decided to give it a shot.

What's this fast food all about? The foundation of their cuisine is roasted potatoes, halved and topped with oil and cheese. You can also add a side dish of your choice, which they'll place on top of the potato. They've got plenty of options - mushroom, ham, crab sticks, or cheese. You've got a lot to choose from.

They also have different types of roasted mash.

There are other simple dishes beyond the roasted potato. You've got sandwiches, sausage in a bun, buns. You can also grab a coffee, tea, or fruit drink.

You pay, and then you wait.

They prep your order quickly.

Our order was ready in about 7-8 minutes.

Here's how it looked:

It looked pretty appetizing.

They provide plastic forks for eating the potatoes.

There aren't any wet wipes, just for an extra fee.

Let's give it a shot.

The potatoes are hot, but they cool down quickly.

They're fluffy, not super tasty, just normal. It's like the potatoes from Magnit. Not like grandma's from the village. But overall, it's okay.

The add-ons look like this:

My husband had it with crab sticks, my son with ham, and I with mushrooms.

I didn't try the crab sticks, but my mushroom salad was okay, the ham one was quite sour and not that tasty. I tried it and took it off the plate, my son didn't want to eat it either, and I didn't either - it was strange with a very sour taste. It's like an old Olivier salad.

The sandwich was big, hot, and well-packaged, but not very tasty. It was extremely dry, with extremely little filling, and the bread was hard to chew, like old rye bread with a crust.

It looked appetizing, but not super tasty.

It filled my hunger a bit, but I wasn't satisfied.

I wasn't very full. The potato sticks were small. They looked big at first, but when you eat them, you're left with about 60% of the mass. I was full, my husband seemed to get up from the table with a slight feeling of hunger. It was tasty, but that's about it.

Here's the total amount:

I'd recommend Kroshka-kartoshka, but don't expect me to be raving about it. It's just okay.

The sandwich and the side with ham and cheese were old and not that tasty.

Rating: 4 out of 5.
