I live in a city without this fast food place called Teremok, but whenever I'm in a Moscow shopping mall, I end up eating here most of the time.

To be honest, it used to be my go-to fast food joint, and I'd always choose it over others unless I ordered a dish that changed my mind.

Sometimes, I end up at Teremok's network cafes, which are usually located on the food court of shopping malls.

I've only been to them in Moscow and St. Petersburg, to be honest. From the outside, it's usually a fenced-off area of the restaurant, with tables that people just grab.

One thing that stands out about this place is that the staff address you as 'sir' or 'ma'am.' I'm not sure if that's a thing people like, but it makes me a bit uncomfortable.

The menu usually has a variety of dishes, including soups, main courses, drinks, and of course, pancakes with fillings.

The order that disappointed me consisted of pancakes and a pancake with salmon.

I absolutely love pancakes, and there are places where I always order them, like Chocoladnitsa - they're always soft and delicious.

But the pancakes at Teremok are completely unimpressive - they're like rubbery, weird texture, and just not tasty.

I couldn't even finish them and didn't want to, they just weren't appetizing.

But the blini with semga, despite being quite pricey, surprised me with the amount of filling - I ate half of the blini.

After that order, I didn't visit this little restaurant for a whole year - the aftertaste just lingered, and I even thought about not going there at all, to be honest.

But a year later, I went back to Teremok - this time, I actually liked my order - I had the standard mushroom soup with chips, and a blini with a filling of cabbage and egg.

They always serve the soups with chips separately so they don't get soggy, which is a nice touch.

This order was actually quite satisfying - I really enjoy the mushroom soups here, and when the filling is made from affordable ingredients, they add a decent amount.

So, what's the takeaway from my rollercoaster ride with Teremok? The good stuff:

huge selection; Fresh food is always a must; The service is super friendly.

The not-so-good stuff:

Some dishes just don't cut it in the taste department; The 'ma'am' thing gets a bit annoying.

I'd still recommend this place - the prices are reasonable, and the menu's got some nice options.

I'm sure I'll be back, but I'll avoid the pancakes, for instance.

The mushroom and cheese soup's a winner every time, and most other dishes don't disappoint either.
