A Disappointing First Impression with the Zitrek GreenCut 20

summarizeEditor's Summary

I'm really disappointed with my experience using the Zitrek GreenCut 20 (20V) cordless trimmer. For 3,446 rubles, I expected a solid product, but what I got was a letdown. The trimmer's made in China, despite Zitrek claiming to be a small Czech company. The packaging was a mess, with way too much tape. The trimmer itself is lightweight and portable, but that's about it. I'm usually not one to write reviews, but I feel like I need to warn others about this product. To be honest, I was expecting a lot more value for money, especially considering the brand's reputation. Unfortunately, the build quality is subpar, and the trimmer struggles with thick grass. The battery life is surprisingly long, but that's about the only positive thing I can say about this product.

A Disappointing First Impression with the Zitrek GreenCut 20
Hello!
I'm really disappointed with my experience using the Zitrek GreenCut 20 (20V) cordless trimmer, though.
I bought it on Wildberries for 3,446 rubles.
Why Zitrek?
Firstly, I didn't want to buy a Chinese unknown brand.
Secondly, buyers in reviews and articles seemed to praise this brand.
Thirdly, the price seemed to offer good value for money.
According to the website, Zitrek is a small company based in a suburb of Prague, but in reality, the trimmer is made by Nantong Change Electric Tools Co., in Cidun, China.
Packaging arrived quickly in two days. The trimmer came in a long cardboard box, about 90 cm long, weighing around 3 kg. It's incredibly portable and lightweight. However, the box was intact, but there was way too much tape on it.
Unboxing
The package included: the trimmer, one cutting disk, two metal blades, one spool of twine, five plastic blades, two batteries, one charger, one key, one user manual, and two hex keys, two plastic bases, a protective casing, a plant guard, a washer, flanges, and an extra handle. There were also gifts: a headlamp and safety glasses.
One of the two plastic bases had a cracked clip.
Before using the device, I carefully read through the instruction manual. I'd never worked with battery-powered, electric, or gas trimmers before, so the manual was a bit of a mystery to me. It was a real pain to read, mainly because the instructions were vague and poorly laid out. The thing that really got my goat was the conflicting descriptions of the assembly process.
When I took a closer look at the device's components, I found a small washer that was supposed to be attached to the spindle's base.
On this illustration, there's no washer shown - instead, you're supposed to attach the plastic blade, flange, and nut.
But on this other illustration, the washer is shown, and it looks like it's supposed to go on first.
To be honest, the washer is so small that it fell off the spindle during my first use of the trimmer, and I almost lost it.
Next, I charged both batteries. As the description promised, charging each battery took around 30 minutes. Initially, the charger's indicator lit up red, and after 30 minutes, it turned green.
Unfortunately, this process only impressed me once because when I tried to charge the batteries again, the charger's indicator stubbornly stayed red, even after three hours of work, and refused to switch to green, which, according to the instructions, indicated a malfunction that could lead to a fire or explosion.
The photo above shows the indicator lit up green, even when disconnected from the power filter.
During assembly, I wasn't a fan of how the black auxiliary handle attached to the trimmer's shaft – it was secured with a bolt that deformed the contact part's mounting area.
The trimmer's shaft is telescopic, just like vacuum cleaners.
The cutting disc's teeth are angled. When I started the saw, the disc spun counterclockwise. The instruction manual didn't provide any information on which side to mount the disc on the spindle.
Performance
I found the start-up process to be pretty straightforward - just click the battery into place, press the button, and the disc starts spinning. The chain saw is remarkably quiet, especially when compared to the roaring sound of a gas-powered chainsaw. It feels solid in my hands, and the weight isn't a problem at all.
The lithium-ion battery lasted for about 10 minutes of continuous use with the disc. I swapped in a second battery while the first one was recharging, and continued cutting the grass. However, after 10 minutes of use, the second battery was also depleted. I had to wait 20 minutes for the first battery to charge, so I started using the scythe to scrape up the cut grass. But even after 30 minutes, the indicator light on the battery still hadn't turned green, so I had to keep going without it.
When I encountered areas with thick vegetation, the disc would get tangled up in the plants, and sometimes the grass would wrap itself around the spindle, requiring me to untangle it. And if I encountered thick stalks of weeds, the disc would start to make a screeching noise, like a sawmill, and would cut through the plant slowly.
As soon as the guard touched a plant, it would bend down, and the disc would start cutting into the guard itself, requiring me to remove it immediately.
The cutting width of 15 cm is convenient for small, narrow areas, but it's not suitable for larger fields. It would take all day to cut the grass with this trimmer.
The seller included two gifts with the trimmer: a flashlight and a pair of safety glasses. The flashlight works on three AAA batteries, but they weren't included, and the light is pretty weak. It only illuminates the outlines of nearby objects, and it's not enough to see details in the dark. The safety glasses are fine, though.
Conclusion
In my opinion, this 20V trimmer doesn't differ much from a 12V one, and the disc is not suitable for large weeds anyway. The trimmer doesn't live up to its claimed capabilities.
So, I had a major issue with the trimmer - it was faulty. I reached out to the seller, but they refused to take it back. I escalated the issue on the platform, and Wildberries sided with the seller, suggesting I contact the service center instead. I did, and they confirmed the trimmer was indeed defective. They offered to replace the battery, but I declined. I asked for a defect report, sent the photos again, and finally, the seller agreed to take it back. I dropped off the trimmer at a return point, and the money was back in my account the same day.
Now, I'm left thinking that 3,446 rubles for a trimmer of this quality is way too steep, and the hassle of dealing with it just isn't worth it.
