I've spent countless hours strolling through Zaryadie Park. I remember attending the opening day and being curious about this new wonder in the heart of the city. The view from the famous Suspended Bridge is simply stunning.
Zaryadie Concert Hall ReviewI know the Zaryadie Concert Hall opened back in 2018, but I finally got to experience it for myself recently.
I'm glad I did - I'll definitely be back. I loved everything about it: the concert, the acoustics, the modern space, the crowd, the organization, and the convenient location. Plus, the prices were surprisingly reasonable!
I was hesitant about what to wear, but I decided to go for a casual yet stylish outfit - a dressy top and a flowy skirt. It turned out to be a great choice)
Zaryadie Concert Hall ReviewI can confidently say that Zaryadie is a place where you can dress up or down. Some people were dressed to the nines, while others looked like they just rolled out of bed and stumbled in)
Concert Hall Zaryadie ReviewI went to a concert of Turkish music and was struck by how many more Turks and Turkish women were there than Russians. The guys were all dressed up in suits, many with ties, and the Turkish women were just stunning – I couldn't look away!
First off – some key info about the Zaryadie Concert Hall.
The Zaryadie Concert Hall is one of the world's top concert venues, a symbol of beauty, diversity, and openness to the arts. Our mission is to foster and develop audience interest in musical heritage, inspire the professional community to develop, perfect, and realize the most ambitious creative challenges and projects.
Each year, the Zaryadie Concert Hall hosts over 500 events in various formats: classical, jazz, and folk music concerts, plays, operas, and choreographic performances, family-friendly programs, contemporary artist performances, lectures, and guided tours.
And one more thing!
The Zaryadie Concert Hall's modern design blends seamlessly into the historic Patriarch's Court architecture: right next door are the Znamensky Cathedral, the churches of the Annunciation, Maxim the Blessed, Varvara, St. George on Pskov Hill, the Old English Yard, and the China Town Wall.
One of the coolest things about the concert hall is that it's built into an artificial hill near the Zaryadie park, and it's covered in this unique 'glass skin' – a transparent structure with no walls. When they built it, they used eco-friendly materials: the walls are made of glass composite, and the floor is made of natural granite. The glass facade of the building is a great way to save energy, because during the day, they don't need to use artificial lighting in the foyer.
I've got to say, it's great to see that they really thought about the architecture, the environment, and the historic buildings in the area – they didn't damage any of them!
How to get to the Zaryadie Concert Hall?
Address: 6 Varvarka St., bldg. 4, Moscow (Zaryadie Park).
You're basically in the heart of Moscow – it's just a stone's throw away from the Red Square and the Kremlin.
Zaryadie Concert Hall reviewOpening hours: every day, 10:00–21:00.
They've got morning, daytime, and evening shows – and even some kids' performances. The variety of genres is huge.
Nearest metro stations: Kitay-gorod, Kitay-gorod, Revolution Square.
You can also get here from other metro stations like Lubyanka, Okhotny Ryad, or Teatralnaya – it's just a bit of a longer walk.
I took the bus number 1 and got off near Okhotny Ryad – it took me about 15-20 minutes to get to the Zaryadie Concert Hall on foot. It's easy to find, just look for the glass roof – it's visible from a distance, even from the lower parts of the park. While you're walking there, you get to enjoy the beautiful Zaryadie park...
Zaryadie Concert Hall Review Zaryadie Concert Hall Review I've got to say, I'm a fan of modern architecture, and Zaryadie Concert Hall is no exception. I know some people prefer the charm of old buildings, but I love that this place is a bit of a departure from the usual Moscow landmarks like the Conservatory, which is housed in a stunning historic building with intricate woodwork and ornate portraits. But there's something to be said for something new and modern, don't you think?
Zaryadie Concert Hall Review My phone's camera isn't the best, but I'll show you what I managed to snap - the view from the stairs after a concert. The way the light reflects off the building is pretty cool, especially with that massive LED screen on the side.
Zaryadie Concert Hall Review
Where can I buy tickets to a show at Zaryadie Concert Hall?
There are a few ways to go about it. The easiest option is to buy directly from the official website. From what I understand, it'll automatically redirect you to the Afisha website, where you can complete your purchase. Just be aware that you'll need to enter your passport details right on the site.
Yeah, and of course, you'll need to bring your passport. You'll also need to print out your electronic ticket and show it in paper form.
You can buy tickets on partner websites, but they'll add a service fee.
Ticket prices at the Zaryadie concert hall.
Prices vary widely, ranging from 300 rubles to... I've seen the highest price I've ever seen, which was 25,000 rubles, but I'm guessing that's not the limit.
My rule of thumb is that if I'm going to a new place for the first time, I go in stealth mode, like a curious fox)
I mean, I buy a cheap ticket first to get a feel for the place and see if I like it enough to go back.
So, I bought a ticket for just 700 rubles to the upper level)
Zaryadie concert hall review
First impressions of the Zaryadie concert hall.
There are these massive metal detector frames standing guard, and the security is super serious and attentive - it's great. The security team is friendly, but also very sharp and observant, so don't even think about trying to sneak anything in.
The coat check.
Down to the -1 floor, we're off to the coat check to drop off our gear (I, as usual, was running late in a rush).
Even in the coat check, you can tell that the building is beautiful, bright, clean, and super modern!
Everything sparkles, shines, and glitters, and it's all lit up with lights and little decorations.
The floor is spotless, not a single speck of dust or dirt - it's immaculately clean and tidy.
Zaryadye Concert Hall ReviewI loved the layout: tons of space, nobody's squished in, even with a huge crowd. The line moves quickly.
The staff are super efficient - and it's cool to see only young guys and gals working in the coat check. I'm used to older folks running the show at theaters.
It's great to see plenty of full-length mirrors - they're totally distortion-free.
Zaryadye Concert Hall Review Zaryadye Concert Hall ReviewThey give you two different tickets - one for your jacket and one for your bigger bags or backpacks. I'm a regular at events like this with my shopper.
Zaryadye Concert Hall ReviewJust past the coat check, you can see a model of the Big Hall at the end of the hallway. That's what it looks like.
Concert Hall Zaryadie ReviewI've gotta say, the brown couches are super comfy, and then there are those white benches where you can sit down to change your shoes or wait for someone.
Concert Hall Zaryadie ReviewLet's head up... The staircase is just as sleek and shiny as the rest of the place. It's like a mirror reflecting all the twinkling lights.
Concert Hall Zaryadie ReviewLooking up from the stairs, I'm greeted by this stunning view.I've been to the Bolshoi, the MAMT, and the conservatory before, but Concert Hall Zaryadie still manages to impress me.
It's got a really stylish, vibrant, and super clean modern vibe that I love.
The high ceilings are a major plus, and I'm really digging the sense of height and grandeur.
Concert Hall Zaryadie Review
I've gotta give props to the staff.
Staff in dark uniforms – I think it's some sort of brown-red color – are young guys and girls who approach you, offer help, and quickly get you on the right track, telling you which way to go and which floor to take.
If you're filming during the presentation, they'll tolerate it for a bit, but then they'll sneak up and politely but firmly ask you to stop.
Interior: What's inside?
The stairs are carpet-free, but they still look great!
Zaryadie Concert Hall review If needed, it's two different staircases in different parts of the building. Zaryadie Concert Hall reviewI really liked the color combination of dark grey with white and warm brown-orange. It looks stylish and not boring – a nice mix of warm and cold tones.
There are elevators, and they're spacious, fast, and quiet, moving smoothly and quietly. Six people fit easily in the elevator, and there's still plenty of space for a few more.
Zaryadie Concert Hall Review I showed you one of the corridors, and I have to say, I loved everything about it - it's wide, spacious, bright, and the color scheme is top-notch. Zaryadie Concert Hall Review So, let's head inside and check out what Zaryadie Concert Hall has to offer.
To get to the top, where I was seated, we took the elevator to the second floor (you can also take the stairs without any issues). The staff will check your ticket and point you in the right direction.
From there, we made our way up to the area where the concert would be held.
Zaryadie Concert Hall Review Here's a shot of the stage (I zoomed in a bit). I was lucky enough to attend a concert by the Presidential Orchestra of Turkey and the ethnic ensemble Arpanatolia - it was amazing! The Turkish ambassador even opened the concert, which I've marked with a red arrow.
I've got a great view from my seat, but I was sitting up straight, not slouching in the chair and leaning on the backrest, and I was actually kind of stretched out a bit (either way, it was super comfy). I can rest my arms on the armrest. The heads of the people sitting in front of me are absolutely not obstructing my view. Zaryadie Concert Hall review Zaryadie Concert Hall reviewNow, let's take a look at what's visible from the sides.Sitting to my right...
Zaryadie Concert Hall reviewSitting to my left... Zaryadie Concert Hall reviewWhen I went to a concert at Zaryadie Concert Hall, I read up on reviews beforehand. A lot of attendees were saying that the view of the stage is amazing from any seat, and I was skeptical - I mean, in the MAMT, for example, it's totally not the same story, and even less so at the Bolshoi Theatre.
But I'm happy to confirm that information. From the parterre, the view of the stage is absolutely great. And even from my gallery seat, I had a really good view of the stage. It's actually pretty impressive, but it's true)
When you walk into the hall, you see rows, and they're numbered. There are a few entrances: they're wide and convenient, so you can exit in pairs without any hassle.
Zaryadye Concert Hall reviewKnowing the seats are comfy, I ended up sitting for two hours without any issues. The combination of dark blue with various beige, brown, and reddish hues looks deep, beautiful, and calm with a touch of elegance.
Zaryadye Concert Hall review
Acoustics in Zaryadye Concert Hall.
I've already mentioned the visibility. Let's talk about the acoustics. I'm also satisfied with them. I think the acoustics in Zaryadye Concert Hall are even better than in the Moscow Conservatory, although I love it with all my heart!
You can hear the nuances in the music, there's no echo, no distortion, or flat sound...
On the contrary, the sound is rich, bright, and multi-dimensional, filling the entire space and living on...
After the concert, there was no temporary hearing loss, which often happens if everything is not set up well.
The buffet.
It's located on the second floor. I think there's also one on the first floor, but I didn't make it there)
You can take the elevator or climb the stairs – it's not a long way)
The buffet tables and chairs are white.
Zaryadye Concert Hall Review Zaryadye Concert Hall Review If I'm being honest, I'm a total sucker for a good flower arrangement. On each table, a beautiful alstroemeria flower sat in a long, slender vase.
This was a really nice touch that just added to the elegance and thoughtfulness of Zaryadye Concert Hall. It's a small thing, but it makes a big difference.
The flowers came in three different colors: red, yellow, and pale pink.
Zaryadye Concert Hall Review Zaryadye Concert Hall Review Zaryadye Concert Hall Review I looked up how long peruvian lilies (also known as alstroemeria) last in the internet, and the answer was pretty straightforward: 1-3 weeks, as long as you change the water regularly.I was a bit worried about the lines at the buffet, but the staff worked super fast and the crowd dissipated quickly. I wasn't even hungry this time, so I didn't need coffee, and I was more interested in exploring the building, so I ended up not buying anything from the buffet.
Relaxation areas.
You can chill on these super comfy, stylish couches.
Check out these awesome brown...
Zaryadie Concert Hall reviewAnd just as nice are these white ones (no dirt spots, by the way).
Zaryadie Concert Hall reviewThe views of the Moscow city center from the window are just stunning.
Bathroom.
I think there's a toilet on every floor, and it's always clean, spacious, and well-lit, with minimal queues. There's even a little waiting area near the entrance with great full-length mirrors.
Zaryadie Concert Hall review
One more thing.
Here's the view from above)
Zaryadie Concert Hall reviewThe evening lighting is really beautiful. The building is transparent, so you can see everything inside, and it's all sparkling and shiny.
My Impressions of the Concert at Zaryadie Hall
The Concert Experience
I've been to Turkey a bunch of times and I'm a huge fan of Middle Eastern instrumental music, including Turkish music. I wasn't sure what to expect from this concert, but I was hoping it would be awesome. And, man, it totally was.
I was blown away - it was seriously wow-worthy. The conductor, Jan Deliorman, was super expressive and artistic. The orchestra was incredible, playing in perfect sync and with a lot of energy. You could tell they were a tight-knit team with a great dynamic. It was really interesting to watch them perform, and I found myself getting fully immersed in the music.
I'll show you the program (it's from the Mariinsky website, and the whole crew ended up touring to St. Petersburg with the same show). I loved everything about it. I'd never heard any of the compositions before, and I ended up downloading a bunch of them to my playlist afterwards.
The Presidential Orchestra played with a lot of power and emotion, and they chose some really energetic and engaging pieces.
My Impressions of the Concert at Zaryadie HallOn the other hand, the music by Arpanatolia was incredibly moving and emotional. This is a trio that plays on ancient Anatolian instruments, and it was really fascinating to watch them perform. First of all, it was cool to see how they worked together as a team.
And secondly, the music was just amazing... it really gets to you and moves you. You have to experience it for yourself to believe it.
I've gotta say, the sounds this guy was getting out of that thing - I don't even know what to call it, but it's like a flute or something - were just incredible: eagle, hawk, I don't know, it was like nothing I've ever heard before. But seriously, it was amazing.
Concert Hall Zaryadie reviewOf course, there were a lot of Eastern influences in the music.
I have to admit, at one point I was totally transported back to the time of Hurrem Sultan - ha ha, I was even tempted to jump up on stage and start dancing some traditional dances (I can, I do, I practice, you know).
The concert was a huge hit with everyone!
Concert Hall Zaryadie reviewThe audience was clapping along for ages, refusing to let the music stop.
The Verdict.
It was a fantastic evening, with a great atmosphere and a real emotional high. I discovered a new, amazing venue. I'm totally stoked! I'll definitely be back.
I know some people might not have been impressed with the building, the acoustics, or whatever else - but for me, it was a completely different story. I left with a really positive impression of Concert Hall Zaryadie.
And after the concert, it's great to take a stroll around the city centre... There are loads of cafes, restaurants, GUM, TSUM, a beautiful park, tons of clubs and bars on Kitay-Gorod... In short, there's something for every taste and budget.
Important Note!
I chatted with a staff member at Zaryadie Park and they told me that they have a free seating policy. If I see empty seats, like in the parterre, I can easily move there. And up top, I can pretty much sit wherever I want, closer or farther away, wherever the seats look good to me.
