I'm a total book nerd, and I'm stoked to share my experience with you about a service that's become a daily habit.
As a student and later in my academic career, I mostly read academic literature. But after that, I started exploring psychology books, popular science, and of course, my favorite books on happiness research.
Lagom. The Secret to Swedish Happiness. Lotta Lundgren Lekberg is a great example of the kind of books I enjoy reading.
I've always been a fan of physical books, but sometimes an e-book is more convenient, especially when I'm on the go or want to avoid disturbing others with the light.
Initially, I looked for e-books on LitRes, then in a Telegram channel. And once I discovered Yandex Books, I found a treasure trove of books there.
The first book I read was probably Gordon Sumner's autobiography. That's Sting's real name, by the way. The book really caught my attention, and I was under its spell for a long time. But for some reason, I still haven't written a review about it. I guess it's time to fix that.
Then there was the book The Unloved Daughter, which I tried to read in tiny chunks, but couldn't finish after four years.
And then Yandex Books started offering audiobooks! Unfortunately, many of the books I want to read aren't available in audio format, but I can always find something to listen to while doing household chores. And that's exactly what I do.
It's especially convenient that I can switch between the printed and audio versions within the app, as well as between the app and my Yandex Station speaker.
According to the app's data, I've read (listened to) 14 books through it this year. But that's not entirely accurate, because if you added both the audio and text versions of a book, they'd both be counted as read. Honestly, it's not a big deal - I don't mind not keeping track of my progress myself.
One thing that's really annoying is when I switch between the column and the app - it's not always easy to control. When I switch from the column to the book, it doesn't always come back to the text. I have to go back to the device and scroll through it again.
But there's one thing that makes up for these downsides - I can download books! It's super convenient when I'm traveling and don't have internet.
I've been using this app for a while now, and it's really comfortable for me. I'm a Yandex Plus subscriber, but I know there are also free books available in the app.
