I'm a total sucker for organization, and kids' toys are no exception. I like to think that a cluttered play area can be overwhelming for little ones, so I was on the hunt for a storage solution that would help keep things tidy.
Sure, I started by sorting them into plastic bins with my little one, but I wanted to take it to the next level – literally. I wanted a shelf that would allow us to see everything at a glance and make it easy for my kid to find what they need.
This purchase wasn't an impulse buy. I did my research and compared shelves from different sellers. I was initially tempted to go for that super-popular brand everyone raves about, but after reading some reviews, I thought better of it. The complaints about the containers falling out of their tracks or the wipe-clean surface being a nightmare didn't exactly fill me with confidence.
What really drew me to the VROST shelf, though, was its modular design with removable containers. It's perfect for zoning off toys by category, and I was on the hunt for a worthy alternative. I mean, who doesn't love a good sorting system?
Ongoing, I came across the VROST floor-to-ceiling toy shelf. I was immediately drawn to its sleek design and the fact that it's made from natural materials.
Key specs:
Country of origin: Russia;
You can buy it on Wildberries (art.223223809);
The price varies depending on the size and configuration, but mine cost 5311 rubles (for the frame without containers);
The material is birch plywood;
Product description:
This shelf is made from sturdy wood - sanded birch plywood without a finish or sharp edges. The wooden shelf is a safe, stylish, and eco-friendly piece of furniture. One of its standout features is the open access to all compartments.
Thanks to this, kids will find it easy to grab the toys, including Montessori ones, or books they need, and put them back in their place after playtime or reading.
Unpacking/Contents:
I was pleasantly surprised to find that the product arrived in a box with the company's name on it. Upon opening the packaging, all the parts were intact and complete.
Unpacking
ContentsThe contents include: shelf parts, hardware kit, and assembly instructions.
Assembly InstructionsI was surprised to find that the box also included a sticker pack for labeling the containers (although the product description notes that these are sold separately).
According to my husband, assembly was a breeze. The instructions are clear, and all the notches are precisely cut.
The hardware bundle came in a separate pouch, which was a nice touch. Inside, I found four hex nuts and a set of confirmatory screws. After assembly, I was left with a bunch of leftover fasteners.
My husband was skeptical about buying this at first, but now he's hooked and wants one for himself - he's even considering getting one for his workshop.
Design:
The frame is made from thick birch plywood, and every detail is sanded to perfection.
My supplier had different sizes available, and I opted for this one:
107 cm tall, 72 cm wide, and 41 cm deep.
This storage unit is designed to look like a little house, with a roof that has no sharp edges.
I love how it's designed in a Scandinavian style - it's all about simplicity and natural materials.
It has a vertical position, and the top shelf is spacious.
The containers have special protruding parts that fit into the special grooves on the frame, keeping them in place.
Shelves (sold separately)
I found the shelves a bit pricey, but you can get them cheaper here.
These shelves are compatible with the standard 'TRUFAST' containers you can find on the market.
What I like about these shelves is that you can choose the size of the containers.
They come in different sizes:
Width: 30 cm, Length: 42 cm, Depth: 10 cm;
Width: 30 cm, Length: 42 cm, Depth: 23 cm.
For me, the narrow containers were a better choice because they allowed for more sorting options. I used two large containers for the bottom shelf to store bigger toys.
They come in different colors: blue, pink, black, yellow, green, and red.
I chose the white color, but it's a bit see-through unlike the other colors.
Additional pockets on the side (sold separately)
The material of the organizer is Oxford.
I bought this same seller and I loved the idea of an additional storage zone to maximize the shelf space.
I also thought that by doing so, I'd be able to hide the slats from my kid and prevent them from trying to climb up like a ladder.
The best part about this shelf:
It doesn't take up too much space in the room, but it can hold a lot of items;
The construction is low and stable. My kid can easily reach the desired container, and all the toys are within easy access;
It's made from natural materials, which fits perfectly with my home decor. The material is well-processed, and the edges are rounded - a great feature for kids' furniture;
I love that I can be creative with the containers, choosing the color, size, and arrangement on the shelf;
I've been teaching my little one to put things in order since they were a toddler, and this organizer has made it a breeze. We sort toys into designated boxes, and it's amazing how quickly they pick it up.
The lack of inserts might seem like a drawback, but I think it's a great safety feature. My little one can't take apart or swallow any small parts.
One thing that's been a bit of a challenge is the price. We ended up paying around 10,000 rubles for the entire setup.
Here's a breakdown of the costs:
The frame cost 5,311 rubles;
The set of small containers (6 pieces) cost 2,215 rubles;
The set of 2 small and 2 large containers cost 2,214 rubles;
The hanging organizer cost 876 rubles.
In use, the organizer has been a game-changer. It's kept our play area tidy, and we've got more space to play.
My little one is 13 months old, and she's already getting the hang of using the organizer. She's not quite at the stage where she puts things back in their place, but she loves opening and closing the compartments and dumping out the toys.
It's only a matter of time before she gets the hang of it.
We store our smallest items in the narrow compartments – they take up the least amount of space.
• Blocks
• Details from the blocks
• Animals
• The 'Baby' toys 😅
• Books
We store the large soft toys in one of the lower deep drawers
The ones that didn't fit into any category are stored in the second one.
After sorting through all the toys, we realized we actually don't have that many 😀 Now there's even more space to spare, although it seemed like the playpen was packed to the brim before.
Verdict: I'm completely satisfied with my purchase! This bookshelf is a perfect blend of functionality and safety.
I love how it has a minimalist design that'll fit seamlessly into any home decor.
