Vivienne Sabo Hydrating Foundation - Surrealist

I've tried a bunch of foundations, but this one's a game-changer. It gives me a smooth, everyday base that lasts all day without drying out my skin. Plus, it's got long-lasting coverage, so I don't need to touch it up throughout the day.

My Honest Review of Vivienne Sabo's Surrealist Toner Cream: A Mixed Bag

summarizeEditor's Summary

I tried Vivienne Sabo's Surrealist Toner Cream and it's a mixed bag. The packaging is seriously cute, but don't let that fool you – the product itself is a letdown for me. I've got problematic skin, so I rely on toners to even out my tone and reduce breakouts. Unfortunately, this one didn't quite deliver. On the bright side, the pump dispenser makes it easy to use the right amount, and the formula is gentle enough for sensitive skin. However, it's not as moisturizing as some other toners on the market, and the price is a bit steep. I'm not sure it's worth the price tag, especially when compared to other toners on the market.

Writing reviews for toner creams in winter is a real challenge – photos taken during the day end up looking dull and not as clear as I'd expect.
I've got problematic skin, with uneven tone and occasional breakouts that make me rely on toners regularly. My latest order from ZYA coincided with the launch of Vivienne Sabo's new product, which caught my eye.
The packaging is cute, and I think that's one reason I bought it – the glass bottle with an asymmetrical curve and gold cap looks more expensive than it actually is.
The standard 30ml volume comes with a pump dispenser that doesn't splash or over-dispense.I chose the lightest shade, 01, and it's way too light, even for me. I usually suit the lightest tones, but this one doesn't work for me. Surrealist is one of the few shades that actually suit my skin.
The color on my skin isn't a beige or rosy tone – it's actually white. The plus side is that it's a dense, opaque white that covers everything.
Application and resultsThe pigmentation in Surrealist is amazing – it covers imperfections and redness just as well as a concealer.
One thing I really don't like is the pale undertone. If I'm wearing blush and colored lip gloss, I can pull off a pretty normal look, but without it and with a neutral sheen, I look like a ghost. In person, I look even paler, which is pretty concerning. So pale that one day when I came to work, my colleagues asked me if I was feeling okay not once, but twice, because I looked so white.
The base of Surrealist is claimed to be moisturizing, but it surprisingly accentuates any fine lines or flakiness I have. I don't get much moisture from it, but I do feel a heavy, greasy texture on my face that's not exactly pleasant.
LongevitySurrealist is not about 'apply and forget about it for the whole day.' It'll cake up in pores, look oily, and leave fingerprints on your phone. Instead of a thousand words, here's a photo of me after just 3 hours of wearing it. I look like I've been wearing it for a whole workday.

3 out of 5 stars and I wouldn't recommend it. Although the coverage is amazing, everything else is a letdown.
Thanks for reading, everyone!
Check out my other reviews on makeup:
1. I changed my mind about powder after it broke
2. I fell head over heels for the powder – it's amazing how few negative reviews there are for the L'Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Glow Powder.
3. The Double Wear line from Estee Lauder is a classic, and their Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup in shade 1N is a staple in my makeup bag.
4. I'm obsessed with the new Velvet Volume Mascara from Darling – it's a total game-changer for my lashes.
