Hello everyone!
I have to say, I was completely unaware that I'd be sewing my own awesome, one-of-a-kind stuff in just a few months. It all started when I got my sewing machine five years ago, but I never had the time to take a class. Still, the desire to learn and create something for myself never went away. That all changed when I stumbled upon a YouTube video of a girl making a Vikisews pattern. I was hooked! I soon found the Vikisews channel and Instagram, and let me tell you, it's a whole different world. Thousands of projects, photoshoots, contests, and hashtags like #vikisews, #vikisews_patterns... it's just incredible!
The Website
I love how easy it is to navigate, search, and find what I'm looking for on the website. Everything is structured and visually appealing. You can easily filter patterns, courses, and even find your personal account and more.
The website has the following categories for patterns:
- New Collection,
- Free Patterns,
- Dresses and Tunics,
- Children's Patterns,
- Men's Patterns,
- Tops,
- Pants,
- Home Sewing,
- Plus Size,
- Jackets,
- Skirts,
- Sweaters and Hoodies,
- Blouses and Shirts,
- And More.
Another thing that caught my attention is that you can not only buy pre-made patterns, but also entire courses. Each product comes with a detailed description, high-quality photos of the model from all angles in natural poses, and even video. It's super informative and easy to understand. They also provide parameters and model height, making it easier to get a sense of size and fit:
Under the photos, there's a link to the hashtag of the projects created using this pattern. Often, you can find inspiration, connect with fellow sewing enthusiasts, ask questions about fabric choice, size, and other sewing details.
Before you even pay, you can get a complete picture of the pattern. The description, technical drawing, cost, fabric recommendations, materials needed, and equipment required are all listed. Plus, they offer various sizes and height groups for a perfect fit. The size guide is super detailed.
As for the website, everything is clear, colorful, informative, and user-friendly. After paying for the pattern, you get access to A4 format patterns, as well as a detailed sewing guide with photos of each step.
My Projects
1. I started my home sewing journey in February with sewing a shirt called Alya. On YouTube, I found an awesome sewing tutorial by Vikki that covers sewing a shirt without an overlock machine and serger. You can never have too many shirts, and here are my results:
I was feeling pretty confident after making the previous two projects, so I decided to tackle a more complex one - a sporty knit jumpsuit from Nikka without a lining, using the same channel as before, Wiki. Here's what I came up with:
Next, I decided to really challenge myself and make a wetsuit without a video tutorial, just following the instructions that came with the pattern. This is the Melissa wetsuit:
Next up was the Vanessa dress. I followed a fantastic tutorial on YouTube by vikisews that showed me how to sew this dress without any overlap using artificial suede. Here's my take on this pattern:
This dress is a bit more challenging than my previous projects, but the tutorial made it look so easy. I was able to conquer it with ease, which is more than I can say for my 5th project - the Rita sash. I also made that without any overlap, following a YouTube tutorial by vikisews.
Cutting the curves with a rotary cutter was a breeze, thanks to the tutorial. I was able to repeat the process, but not as smoothly as I would have liked. I also had some issues with the interfacing, which was a bit tricky to get right. The result is still decent, considering it was my first time.
6. I was so impressed with the Melissa wetsuit pattern that I sewed up a three-season knit mini dress using it. By the way, this pattern is a 2-in-1: a wetsuit and a dress:
What I love about this top is that it's perfect for throwing on with sneakers or boots and running errands. I just finished sewing a summer blouse out of cotton, and I have to say, it's been a game-changer. I've never worked with cotton before, and I'm so impressed with how comfortable it is. It's going to be a great material for beginners to work with, and the pattern and construction are so simple that even a novice sewer can whip it up. The instructions include a tutorial on how to sew without a serger using a double-fold hem, and the result is a beautiful finish. This is the first project I've completed that I'm completely happy with, and the inside is finally something I'm proud of.
What really caught my eye was the unique model, and how it looks on the body is just amazing.
My Verdict
1. I'm so glad I stumbled upon vikisews. Not only do they offer an enormous number of patterns for all aspects of life, but their service is top-notch too. The website is user-friendly, with detailed descriptions of each product, including photos, videos, fabric requirements, size guides, and more. If you have any questions or concerns, you can easily reach out to the vikisews team via direct message or email.
2. I also want to highlight the beautiful and relevant models offered by Vika and her team. There are both simple and stylish designs, as well as more elaborate and elegant options. For comparison, I browsed through the ready-made patterns on popular websites like Burda, Selftailor, Laforme, and Grasser. If I had to choose from Grasser and Burda, I'd say I could make 5-10% of their patterns, but vikisews offers a whopping 80% of their designs, which I find more practical, universal, elegant, and relevant. The other suppliers just seem to be lacking an idea or concept, and most of their designs are too extravagant and not something you'd wear in real life. Of course, not all their patterns are perfect, but most of them are pretty natural-looking and effortless.
One of the things that really stands out about Vikasews is how approachable they make their products feel. It's clear that they've put a lot of thought into how to present their designs in a way that's easy to understand, even for complete beginners. The instructions are super clear and concise, with photos for each step of the process. I was amazed at how easy it was to get started with one of their patterns, even without any prior sewing experience or knowledge of specialized terminology. It's great that Vikasews has been listening to their customers' needs.
I also want to highlight the fact that many of Vikasews' patterns are specifically designed for beginners, or for people who don't have a lot of experience with overlock machines. The tutorials on their YouTube channel break down the basics in a really detailed way, and their website has a range of patterns that include instructions for working without an overlock machine. For example, the Eva blouse and Lili top patterns both include step-by-step guides on how to achieve professional-looking results without needing specialized equipment. It's impressive to see how thoroughly Vikasews has addressed this issue.
5. The sheer number of people using Vikisews' patterns and courses, and the massive amount of projects they end up posting on Instagram with the hashtag, speaks volumes about the need for this site and product in its current form. Vikas genuinely inspires thousands of people from all around the world. I also appreciate how often she offers significant discounts on her products – around holidays, sewing competitions, or no particular reason at all. I bought most of my patterns on sale, which I still need to sew and learn. Imagine paying 150-250 rubles for a single pattern, but during sales you can get two patterns for the same price. I often buy five or six patterns at once, and that's a great deal. My dream is to participate in the sewing competitions organized on Instagram by Vikisews and their partners, with awesome prizes, but for now, my sewing speed and free time aren't quite there yet.
I'm happy to say that the benefits of this website are so massive, they could go on and on. In short, this product is a must-have for people. Over four months, I've significantly expanded my wardrobe, and more importantly, I've finally checked off a five-year bucket list item: learning to sew for myself in my free time. Now my head is spinning with ideas of what to sew next, analyzing fabrics, prints, stores, and more. My hobby has become a true escape with a ton of plans and ideas. That's why I want to spread the word about this product. If you've been dreaming of starting to sew but lack the funds, time, energy, confidence, or motivation to make it happen, or you already have sewing experience but struggle to find stylish, elegant, and wearable patterns, make sure to check out this website. The wave of inspiration will hit you next, and there's no turning back!
