A Budget-Friendly Winter Tire That Exceeded My Expectations
Hello there!
I've been driving with the Viatti Brina Nordico V-522 winter tires for two seasons now, and I'm excited to share my honest review.
I chose these tires from a budget-friendly option, and I have to admit, I wasn't sure what to expect from the Viatti brand. The name didn't exactly scream 'Italian quality,' but I figured it was worth a shot.
It turns out, these tires are made in Nizhnekamsk, Russia, using imported equipment and an Italian design. I've had some bad experiences with tires from Russia and Korea in the past, but I was willing to give Viatti a chance.
Last season's tires from Nizhnekamsk were a total letdown - they had uneven wear, profile deformation, premature cord failure, and air leaks through the studs, even when the tread was still in good shape. I've also had a bad experience with Korean-made summer tires, the NEXEN N'blue HD Plus. They didn't impress me with their quality either.
But then I tried Nokian Tyres Hakkapeliitta 8, a premium winter tire. I was blown away by their performance, but the price was around twice as much as the Viatti Brina Nordico. That's a significant difference.
So, what makes the Viatti Brina Nordico so good? Well, for starters, the asymmetrical tread pattern is one of the key features. The outer side is designed for normal asphalt, gravel, or snow-covered roads, while the inner side is optimized for slippery surfaces, including icy roads.
The tire has a moderate number of lugs, both in the center and on the sides, with a hardness of 54 on the Shore scale. The shoulder blocks are robust and rigid, with well-developed water evacuation channels. There are 92 studs on the tire's edges, which is relatively few compared to other manufacturers.
Essentially, the Viatti Brina Nordico is a mix of different tire types, from extreme winter tires to those designed for milder climates. This was confirmed by theoretical calculations. According to the manufacturer, the V-522 tire works effectively from -45°C to +10°C.
The asymmetrical tread pattern and relatively few studs did catch my attention, but it's actually a great combination. The tire performs amazingly well on fresh snow, packed snow, and even icy surfaces.
The only downside is that it doesn't handle ice as well as I'd like, but it's not a total disaster either. In general, the car handles well on these tires, with surprisingly low noise levels on the highway. I've been really impressed with how quiet the car is, even at high speeds.
And the best part? These tires don't lose air pressure quickly, even on old wheels. I've had them for a whole season without needing to top them up!So, I highly recommend the Viatti Brina Nordico. They're a great value for the price, and they've performed well in a variety of road conditions. Whether it's fresh snow, packed snow, or even icy surfaces, these tires have handled it all with ease.
One of the things that impressed me the most about these tires is their ability to handle different road conditions. Another advantage is their low noise levels on the highway. I was surprised by how quiet the car was, even at high speeds.
Of course, no tire is perfect, and the Viatti Brina Nordico is no exception. The only downside is that it doesn't handle ice as well as I'd like. However, this is not a deal-breaker for me, and I still highly recommend these tires.
I've been really happy with my purchase of the Viatti Brina Nordico V-522 winter tires. They offer great value for the price, and they've performed well in a variety of road conditions. I'm looking forward to seeing how they hold up in the coming seasons.
Thanks for reading!
