Hello there!
I've been dealing with a long-standing issue that's still not fully resolved, and I've been seeing different doctors for the past six months. Some have suggested I might have internal hemorrhoids, while others have mentioned fissures, but the symptoms remain the same. It's a bit disheartening, but I've noticed some progress in my treatment. Unfortunately, none of my doctors have suggested any radical solutions yet, and I'm not sure if they're hesitant about my diagnosis or what. I've just switched to a new proctologist, and I'm hoping they'll get to the bottom of things.
My new doctor prescribed me either Venaprot or Natalisid, and since Natalisid was out of stock at the nearest pharmacy, I decided to go with Venaprot. Initially, I bought just one pack, even though I was prescribed two, because I've had some terrible side effects from rectal suppositories in the past and I've become a bit cautious about stocking up.
Price - 580 rubles.
Manufacturer - Russia.
Form of release - rectal suppositories. There are also tablets with the same name.
Shelf life - 2 years.
Packaging
Venaprot suppositories come in a colorful cardboard box with a big label highlighting the product's name and its intended use - treating bleeding hemorrhoids. I don't have bleeding hemorrhoids, but I'm willing to try anything at this point.
The back of the box has more information about the suppositories, including their composition, indications, and shelf life.
The expiration date is also clearly marked.
Inside the two plastic blisters with suppositories. Five pieces in each.
The suppositories are separated by dotted perforations and can be easily pulled apart from each other.
I also got an instruction manual, but I lost it, so bear with me!
The suppository itself is easy to remove, without any hassle or scissors, just pull it out from both sides by the labels.
The packaging is convenient to use, no unnecessary stress while getting the suppository, unlike Hepatrombin where I had to struggle!
COMPOSITION.
Active ingredient:
250 mg sodium alginate
So, what is this sodium alginate all about? It's a natural substance extracted from brown seaweed. These candles have a powerful hemostatic effect, stopping bleeding and acting as anti-inflammatory and regenerative agents.
I like the composition because it's a safe, plant-based remedy with no negative impact on the body.
INDICATIONS.
I've dealt with rectal fissures in the healing stage, chronic bleeding hemorrhoids, proctosigmoiditis, and post-operative inflammation of the rectum.
My doctor, who prescribed these suppositories, saw both fissures and hemorrhoids in my diagnosis. Plus, there was inflammation of the rectum. That's one of the reasons I saw positive dynamics with these suppositories. Now, my new proctologist has a different theory on why my symptoms aren't going away, and I think they're closer to the truth. But that's a story for another review. For now, let's talk about Venaprot.
DOSAGE REGIMEN.
Apply rectally 2 times/day. The treatment course lasts 7-14 days, depending on the severity of the disease.
I was prescribed to use the suppositories 2 times a day for 10 days.
ADVERSE EFFECTS.
May occur:
allergic reactions
The almost complete absence of side effects speaks to the safety of the active ingredient.
CONTRAINDICATIONS.
Sensitivity to sodium alginate.
Rectal application may be possible during pregnancy and lactation, but only on a doctor's orders.
MY IMPRESSIONS AFTER USE.
Venaprot suppositories weren't my first, and I've lost count of how many I've tried. It's funny, and also a bit sad. I applied the suppositories 2 times a day, in the morning and evening. In the morning, I applied them after my morning routine, and then I'd lie down for a bit to let the suppository dissolve and take effect. Before bed, I'd apply one about 30 minutes before sleep, so I wouldn't have to get up during the night. You have to insert the suppository correctly – first, about halfway in, let it soften for a few minutes, and then push it in fully. Venaprot dissolves relatively quickly.
One thing that stood out to me about these suppositories was their size - they're a bit larger than average, but still easy to insert without any discomfort.
The suppositories have a distinct medicinal smell, but it's not overpowering.
I didn't experience any unpleasant sensations during or after insertion, and it didn't exacerbate my symptoms. However, I didn't notice any immediate effects either.
At the time, I was experiencing persistent, squeezing pains inside my rectum, as well as burning sensations after bowel movements that lasted for several hours.
So, I used the suppositories for 3 days and was starting to get frustrated that they weren't working for me, but then something changed and with each suppository, my symptoms started to subside. In the end, I used VenaProkt for 10 days and saw about an 80% positive result, which was amazing given my complex case. My symptoms improved significantly, and I was finally able to sleep through the night without discomfort.
I also want to mention that the suppositories don't leak or stain my clothes during the day, which is a relief.
After I finished the course of treatment, my symptoms came back about a week later, and I was back to where I started before using the suppositories. It was disappointing, but now I feel like I know what to expect and how to move forward, given my underlying issues.
Overall, I think these suppositories are really great - they were able to produce some effect even in my case, where nothing else seemed to work. Of course, treating hemorrhoids with suppositories alone isn't enough; you need to stick to a diet and avoid constipation, and it's also a good idea to take venotonic medications as part of your treatment plan.
Easy to use
Safe and effective.
They helped.
I have to say, even though the suppositories only gave me temporary relief, I'd still recommend using them when you need them. At the time, they were the only thing that worked for me. I've since repeated the course with similar suppositories, Natalisid, and I'll write about those too.
I really liked VenaProkt, no question.
Relief suppositories
Relief Ultra - just awful suppositories
Proctozan suppositories
Metiluracil suppositories for hemorrhoids and anal fissures
Hepatrombin G suppositories, which I couldn't use due to side effects
