The Ugglys Pug: A Cheeky Little Toy That's Got Some Personality

Hey everyone! I've got a toy to share with you that's definitely got some character. I've been eyeing The Ugglys Pug for ages, but I kept putting it off. Finally, I decided to take the plunge and bring it home.

The Ugglys Interactive PugThe Ugglys Pug is made by Moose, a company that knows a thing or two about making popular toys that kids love. They're also behind other great brands like Shoppkins, Little Live Pets, and Oonies. I have to say, The Ugglys Pug has already had its moment in the spotlight, so it's not as easy to find as it used to be. At least, that's what I've noticed in online stores. But I managed to find it in a local toy store that doesn't have an online presence.

The pug comes in different colors and designs, but they all have that adorable mopsy look. The pug's slobbery face peeking out of its little house is just irresistible. I found myself wanting to touch it and see what it can do. Be warned, though - this toy comes with batteries, and when I first turned it on, I was a bit embarrassed. The innocent buzzing sound quickly gave way to a rather... unpleasant sound. Let's just say it 'puked' on me.

I'm pretty sure the other shoppers nearby thought I was just being a little weird. But hey, I was excited to show off this new toy! The next time I went back to check it out, I was a bit more cautious. But when I finally brought it home and opened the box, I was so excited to see what it could do.

The packaging does a great job of showing off the toy's features. The back of the box is particularly helpful, as it shows you exactly what to expect from the pug. And as a fun bonus, the box can even be used as a bird feeder once you're done with the toy!

I have to say, I find the pug to be both lovable and repulsive at the same time. As a mops fan in general, I was excited to see this little guy. But let's be real - it's definitely not the most refined or well-behaved pug out there. Still, there's something endearing about it, don't you think?

This little ball of fluff is exactly what a mops is supposed to be.

Inside, it's plastic, and outside, it's rubber. And super soft. It compresses in all sorts of directions.

It's already got some stale smell going on, if you know what I mean.

The mops' gaze is almost as wild as that of Becky the seagull from Finding Dory.

The back of the mops has also gotten a bit grimy. Plus, there are batteries hidden away behind a screw. The ones that came with it, we haven't changed yet. It's great.

The speaker is on the back. All the obnoxious sounds will come from there, and the volume doesn't change. It's pretty loud, but not ear-shatteringly so.

To play with it, you have to put the mops on your hand. Yeah, it's basically a hand toy for a homemade puppet show!

So, the mops is hollow inside. I couldn't get a good shot of everything inside, but let me put it in words: the thumb goes under the lower jaw, and the other fingers control the upper jaw. There are even little 'pockets' to help you place your fingers for comfort.

It's just as good for a four-year-old's hand as it is for an adult's. I've used it, and so has my husband. However, a four-year-old's hands can't quite handle opening and closing the mops' mouth, so our kid helps the mops' mouth with their other hand. The little black bug button turns it on, and it makes a buzzing sound. It's pretty fitting, considering the whole dog's look. Right next to it is a switch that changes the tone of the sound.

Let's get real. This thing's got some crazy sounds. With its mouth open, the Mopps toy lets out dozens of variations of farts. And if it's got its jaws shut tight, it's making a totally different sound. It's actually pretty funny.

I'm so glad I even made a video about this on YouTube. I mean, you've got to hear these sounds to believe them.

So, heads up - the video's got some not-so-family-friendly sounds, but they're all coming from the toy, I swear. (For moderators: the video's mine, I took it, and I uploaded it to YouTube myself).

If you made it past the 5-second mark, you probably heard a cat meowing. This is just one of the random sounds the Mopps toy can make if you keep 'mucking' with it. You might also hear some other weird stuff, like clock ticking or whatever else. You never know when the next weird sound's gonna come out.

Honestly, this toy's pretty funny. Not everyone's gonna get it, but we love it. I saw some comments on another review saying this toy's bad because kids will just start copying its sounds. Like, come on? If your kid's that easily influenced, they're probably gonna do it anyway. My 4-year-old knows his limits, and he's got a good sense of humor.

And, funnily enough, there's this one thing in the box that's kinda cool. It's called the 'Care of the Pet' document. It's this little paper 'bone' thing where your kid can write their name and the name of the dog. We're gonna hang onto it until our kid can actually write.

Actually, the Mopps toy's not even the most-played-with toy in our house. It just sits there in the shelf, waiting for our kid to pick it up every now and then to have a good laugh or share with friends. We get about 10 minutes of fun out of it, and then it's back on the shelf. I don't think it's gonna corrupt our kid or anything, but it's definitely a mood-booster. So, no regrets on buying it.

I reckon about 95% of parents would never buy this toy. Each to their own, I guess. We like it, and we recommend it.
