Our Dream Family Vacation in Turkey: What We Experienced

summarizeEditor's Summary

We just got back from our dream family vacation in Turkey, and let me tell you, it was an adventure we'll never forget. From the shuttle schedule to the resort's amenities, we were blown away by the variety of food options available - fresh seafood, meat, fruits, and delicious desserts every day. But, it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows - we encountered some issues with the Wi-Fi and the wine selection. Despite that, we thought it was a great value for money, considering the build quality and ease of use of the resort's facilities.

We decided to take our three-year-old kid on our first family vacation to Turkey. We'd only been to Russia and Hainan before, so we were excited to explore a new destination.
Shuttle ScheduleWe were blown away by the variety of food options available at the resort. Fresh seafood and meat were on the menu every day, along with a wide selection of fruits and delicious desserts. Their pancakes for breakfast were a highlight, and everything was grilled to perfection.
Beach to the rightThe bar offered a great selection of non-alcoholic drinks and cocktails. They had juices, coffee, soda, and could even whip up a virgin cocktail. Their Efes beer was excellent, and their champagne was served from bottles. The wine wasn't as impressive, but the tequila was top-notch, served with a squeeze of lime.
Hotel BeachThere were plenty of restaurants to choose from, and I've attached photos of all the ones we visited.
Our RoomThe beach was small, but there were always plenty of free sunbeds available, and it was almost deserted in the evenings. The left side of the beach had some rocks, which made it a bit tricky to access, but the waves were perfect for some fun.
Cleopatra Beach Heading right from the beach, you'll find perfect sand, a gentle slope into the sea, and fewer waves.
Cleopatra Beach 2 The aqua park had separate areas for kids and adults, and the queues were manageable. The slide on the tube was a blast!
Chicken restaurant There's also a huge kids' playground with a mini trampoline, tube slides, and swings.
Aquatic Park for KidsThe resort had two large adult pools and one kiddie pool with a slide. The water was comfortable for swimming.
PoolsThe rooms were great, with everything you need for a comfortable stay. We had a massive 2-bedroom suite with a huge balcony. We were on the third floor with an enormous terrace.
Nighttime pool viewsWe didn't encounter a single cockroach in our room over the 10-day stay.
View from the coffee shopThey provided beach towels, which you can collect using cards and return each day by 7 pm to get clean ones the next day.
Resort interiorThe air conditioner in the rooms was built-in, not over the bed, making it super comfortable for sleeping.
Hall The local Migros supermarket was just around the corner. It was a great place to stock up on anything you need, with prices that weren't inflated like they were in some other places.
If you're staying for 7 days, I highly recommend checking out the Fish Restaurant, but make sure to book ahead of time.
The hotel was about 17 kilometers from Alanya. You can take the bus number 101, which takes around 30 minutes and costs 40 lira per person. The bus was comfortable and had a conductor, so you could bring your luggage along. Alternatively, you can take a taxi for around 30 dollars.
In Alanya, you can take a cable car ride for 345 lira per person. The castle on the mountain had an entrance fee, but the beach of Cleopatra was nearby and offered breathtaking views of the blue sea and white sand made up of small pebbles.
There were two ATMs nearby, one in the direction of Alanya, just a 10-minute walk away, and the other in the direction of Konakli, a 15-minute walk. You could pay with your Mir cards or rubles, but be aware that the bank would charge a service fee.
MINUSES:
The hotel was quite far from the airport - around 100 kilometers. The journey took around 2-3 hours.
The lift was a bit of a pain to wait for, and it was actually easier to take the stairs. Plus, it was quite stuffy in there.
Unfortunately, we got a not-so-great hotel guide from Anex Tours. After meeting with him, half of the information he provided turned out to be incorrect.
The Wi-Fi was paid, but you could pay for it on a daily basis if you needed to, or opt for a package deal that lasted for a certain number of days. The prices were 3 dollars for one day or 20 dollars for 10 days.
It's a good idea to bring euros or dollars and exchange them for lira in Turkey. Our hotel guide could help you exchange your money for rubles, and he'll give you the currency you need. Don't forget to leave some cash in your local currency for duty-free shopping at the airport.
In July, it gets extremely hot, with temperatures ranging from 32 to 45 degrees Celsius. If you're planning to visit, consider going in late May or early June, or during the shoulder season.
If you're a smoker from Russia, be sure to bring your own cigarettes, as the ones available in Turkey are pretty bad, even compared to what we have back home.
