Hello everyone!
I'm sharing my story with you today because I've been asked about my experience with medical sterilization, or tubal ligation, so many times.
It's been two years since my fourth C-section, and I've decided it's time to open up about my decision.
The reason I chose tubal ligation was simple: I've got four kids, and I'm done.
My third C-section was a bit of a blur, to be honest. I was in shock, and I didn't have time to think about the options.
Looking back, I wish I'd made a decision sooner. But life had other plans, and two years after my third C-section, I saw a positive test.
That was a shock in itself, but the real kicker was the fact that I was still breastfeeding, my cycle had almost immediately recovered, and I had a difficult reproductive history.
Despite being in shock, my decision was clear – to stick with tubal ligation and remind my doctors to agree to sterilization.
So, what exactly is medical sterilization? It's a surgical method of contraception that's performed as a separate procedure or during another intervention, like a C-section.
There are different methods, but the basic idea is to block the tubes – either with threads, rings, or by cutting and dissecting the tube.
Doctors have a classification system for medical sterilization operations in women, which includes methods like the Madlener, Irving, Pomeroy, Parke, and Phillips techniques.
If you want to have kids again, it's likely to be IVF or artificial insemination.
Although 3% of women report an unwanted pregnancy after tubal ligation, I'm not one of them.
Since medicine is always evolving, it's possible to restore the patency of the fallopian tubes through a microsurgical procedure – but that's a separate operation.
Now, let's talk about what the law says. Medical sterilization can only be performed with a written statement from a citizen over 35 years old or a citizen with at least two children, and with medical indications and informed voluntary consent from the citizen – regardless of age and the presence of children.
When it comes to medical indications, such as leukemia, uterine rupture, or schizophrenia, sterilization might be an option.
I had a C-section, and everything went smoothly, just like the plan. There were a few nuances, but that's a review for the C-section itself.
Before the surgery, I signed a consent form for tubal ligation. For tubal ligation during C-section, no additional incisions or openings are required. The access is the same as when they remove the baby.
Everything happens very quickly after that, and you're already in the recovery room, and then in the ward.
Since I had three C-sections prior to this, I'm confident in saying that tubal ligation didn't add any negativity. The sensations were the same as a C-section without ligation.
Here's the scar after the C-section, with no additional incisions. The scar is barely visible now.
So, what are the pros of tubal ligation? It's done during the C-section surgery, it's a reliable method of contraception, and it's without complications.
And the cons? Well, I don't have any.
In the discharge papers, it was mentioned that a sterilization with tubal ligation was performed. I'm having trouble finding the discharge papers due to my recent move.
It's a myth that women become older, gain weight, and become frigid after tubal ligation. Medical sterilization does not have a negative impact on the postpartum period, lactation, menstrual function, sexual behavior, or overall health.
From my personal experience, my cycle is regular, I can feel ovulation every month, and my libido is normal.
I didn't experience any additional painful sensations or problems that would require a doctor's visit during this time.
Life went back to normal, just like before the tubal ligation.
At this point, I don't regret it. The next step will be grandkids.
Dear girls, if you're considering taking control of your fertility, tubal ligation might be your choice. It's indeed an effective method!
However, remember: before making a decision, it's essential to weigh the pros and cons carefully. This step is suitable for those who are absolutely certain about their choice.
