Editor's Summary
I've been using YooMoney for ages, and I've recently had to go back to it after QIWI stopped allowing free transfers to cards. I've been looking for ways to transfer money to my card without paying a commission, and I've found a few methods that work. In this review, I'll show you how to transfer money from YooMoney to your card without paying a dime, including using the fast payment system and transferring through your bank's app. I'll also cover some pros and cons of using YooMoney, as well as some tips and tricks for getting the most out of the service.
Specifications
Hello!
I've been using YooMoney for about four years now, ever since I started writing on Yandex.Dzen. Back then, it was called Yandex Money. I even got a plastic card, withdrew cash from it, and used it to pay in stores. But then I dropped it all and didn't use the service for a long time. Now I had to go back to it - QIWI, which I used to transfer my earnings from Irecommend, stopped allowing free transfers to cards.
Today I'll show you how to transfer money from YooMoney to a bank card, whether you have the app or not - and I'll cover a few methods.
But first, a quick rundown on the system.
YooMoney is a Russian online payment service, the second most popular in the country, after Sberbank Online.
Essentially, it's a payment system: you can create an account (wallet), and then open a bank card (you can get a physical plastic card for a fee, which lets you pay in stores and withdraw cash, or a virtual card for free, which you can link to online store apps and pay like a regular card). You can make transfers and payments. I have both cards - the first one I got for withdrawing cash when I was writing on Dzen, and it costs around 400 rubles to get a new one. With a physical card, you can withdraw up to 10,000 rubles without a commission. The second one I got for free, just in case. Both cards show up in my wallet.
I don't have the YooMoney app, I just use their mobile website. I couldn't download it - it's not available in the App Store. But the website's mobile version is fine for me.
The site has sections:
Home - that's where you'll find your wallet, cards, their details, rates, payment history, and more.
Cards - here you can learn more about your cards, their details, and block or close a card.
Transfers - this is where you can make a transfer to or from your wallet. Transfers are possible to a card, by details, to a bank account, and more. Through the app, you can transfer money by phone number, but the website doesn't have that feature.
A thing to note about YooMoney is that they charge high commissions for transfers, especially to bank cards. And from an anonymous wallet, transfers are forbidden altogether. But you can top up your wallet via Sberbank and without a commission.
Payments - now I can finally pay my fines, utility bills, mobile phone, internet, funds, and more.
And then there's the More section with all sorts of miscellaneous stuff, like the cashback system. YooMoney has its own cashback system with points for spending over 3000 rubles, but I can't evaluate the cashback since I don't use a card. However, there are special promotions, increased cashback, and other interesting offers for active YooMoney users.
Transfer commission - 3% of the amount + 45 ₽.
As I mentioned earlier, I barely used the YooMoney service until Qiwi restricted withdrawals to bank cards. So, I switched to YooMoney's wallet as someone who receives payments on Irecommend. However, after receiving my first payout, I tried to transfer the money to my card, but I was in for a nasty surprise.
So, I've been transferring money to my card about three times, each time with a significant commission. I got tired of losing money, so I started looking for ways to avoid the commission. And guess what? I found a way!
I'd like to lift the veil of secrecy that will help you start transferring money to your bank card without commission. Let's consider two methods - with the app and without the app.
Maybe it's through fast payment system, shortened to SBP. I think everyone's already heard about this innovation, but I'll give a brief rundown.
Fast payment system is a way to transfer money between individuals by phone number (without additional details). In YooMoney, this is transferring money from the wallet to a bank account or payment system.
In essence, the fast payment system is a special system for instant money transfers by phone number. There's an important nuance - you need to activate the fast payment system in your bank's app, if it's not already connected, or the magic won't work. This can be done in your bank's app or through technical support, quickly and for free. SBT is often available automatically, for example, in Sber.
You can transfer money through SBT if:
your wallet is identified, you have a Russian phone number, the recipient has a Russian phone number, the recipient has a bank account or payment system in the SBT participant listImportant note: you can only transfer money through SBT in the YooMoney app (not on the website).
Let's take a look at the requirements YooMoney sets for using SPB and transferring without commission. I'll pay particular attention to the last point. Now, let's go over the conditions: if you're using a Russian number and a bank with SPB, everything's clear, but you still need to identify the wallet. How to do it is explained here.
But let me share my opinion - it's more convenient and faster to do it through Sberbank online.
Congratulations, you've done it!
Now, let's start saving on commissions?
I have the app.
Lucky me. For those without the app, YooMoney has a detailed and good algorithm for transferring money through SPB on their website. I won't add or subtract anything - I'll just leave it here, along with the limits.
How to transfer
Open the app and select 'Catalog', then 'Transfer'.Tap 'By phone number'.Enter the recipient's phone number or select it from your contacts.Tap 'Other bank'.A full list of banks that support SPB will appear: select the one where the recipient has an account (otherwise, the money won't be transferred).Enter the amount.Confirm the transfer.Limits and commissions
Limits: up to 3,500 ₽ at a time and the same amount per day. Just in case: if the daily limit is reached, you can send another transfer after 00:00 (MSK). The monthly limit is 100,000 ₽. There are no commissions.
These limits apply to all your wallets. For example, if you've already sent 1,500 ₽ from one wallet today, you can send another 2,000 ₽ from other wallets.
I don't have the YooMoney app, and I can't demonstrate it in person. As we remember, transferring through the website is not possible. Why? Because the website doesn't even allow you to transfer through SPB - it doesn't let you enter a phone number, only a card number, and you'll have to pay a commission to withdraw the money.
I don't have the app.
Hello, fellow sufferer. You probably have an iPhone and can't download apps from the App Store. Meanwhile, the YooMoney app doesn't allow you to transfer money through SPB - for example, when I try to transfer 100 ₽, it asks me to pay a 48 ₽ commission on top.
But I know a secret to do it without commission. We'll need: the YooMoney website and the bank's app (I have Tinkoff).
First, on the YooMoney website: in your profile, go to settings - SPB system - unverified debits and select the banks. I checked the box for Tinkoff.
I've also tried using the Tinkoff Bank app to top up my account from YooMoney. You just enter the amount, and in most cases, the request won't even show up or will say it can't be done without a commission.
But look what happened. The request was sent and accepted without verification - our 100 rubles were instantly transferred to my account. No commission! And to top it off, this payment showed up in YooMoney as an Sberbank transfer.
That's how we bypassed the system and saved 48 rubles.
By the way, if this method doesn't work for you for some reason, you can install the app on your iPhone through iMagazine, or find instructions online. Some phone repair services also offer remote app installation services.
And if that's not an option, you can just get a plastic card and withdraw 10,000 rubles a month without a commission at an Sberbank ATM. I used to do that.
Or, you can get a free virtual card and use it to pay for online purchases or make payments. That's not exactly transferring money, but it's another way to avoid the commission.
I wouldn't recommend this method, but I hope it helped you save on commissions.
