The Lowdown on Toma Classic: No Sugar, No Additives, No Tricks. And One More Way to Give Your Kids a Sweet Life

summarizeEditor's Summary

I've been blown away by Toma Classic, a Russian kids' cheese spread that's become a staple in our household. The 'творог кисломолочный 4%' version we've been using is a solid alternative to the 'Biotorog' version I couldn't find in stores. What really impresses me is the build quality and battery life - it's a pleasant surprise. My kids love the taste, and I appreciate the lack of added sugars and preservatives. If you're looking for a healthy snack option that's easy to use and won't break the bank, Toma Classic is definitely worth considering.

I'll give you the lowdown on Toma Classic, a Russian kids' cheese spread that's been a staple in our household.
Since I couldn't find the 'Biotorog' version in stores, we've been using the 'творог кисломолочный 4%' instead.
Manufacturer:
PAO 'Kremenchugsky Hormolzavod' / Kremenchug, Poltava Oblast, Ukraine
You can check out how the production process works on their website
Toma cheese spreads are a reliable source of calcium, essential for building a healthy and strong skeleton in kids. In recommended doses, these pastes are a balanced and nutritious complementary food. Compared to traditional cheese and homemade cheese, these cheese spreads contain whey protein.
Ingredients:
Low-fat milk, whole cow's milk, lactic acid bacterial culture.
I was expecting some red flags after testing this yogurt, but it passed with flying colors. The ingredients are all natural, nutritious, and safe. I've compared it to other classic Ukrainian yogurts like Toma, Agusha, and Yahotynske.
The Test Center (test org ua) did a thorough analysis of children's milk products in April-June 2016.
They didn't find any artificial additives, preservatives, or bacteria.
Out of all the classic yogurts, Toma has the lowest fat content at 4%, Agusha has 4.5%, and Yahotynske has 5%.
Packaging: The cup is the same size as Agusha's, but a bit taller than Yahotynske's. The information is printed directly on the cup, and the expiration date is on the removable label.
Weight: 100 grams.
Expiration date: 16 days (14 days for Agusha and Yahotynske). Don't store it after opening.
Consistency: It's thick and smooth, just like a high-fat yogurt.
Color: White.
Smell: It has a natural, sour milk aroma.
Taste: It's mild and pleasant, without any off-flavors.
I've been feeding my little one classic cheese since they were six months old, and they still love it at 11.5 months. They always finish their meals with a smile.
here we are at 6 months)
But when we got a bit older, around eight months, we started introducing cheese with fillings. Although, I still like to spoil my little one with these tasty treats sometimes. I added some mashed strawberries with sugar to the classic cheese (my grandma makes a batch for the winter and freezes it). You can also use raspberries, blueberries, or whatever's in season.
Another option is a more nutritious one - mashing up a banana with a fork, mixing it with cheese, and adding some oatmeal (you can blend it all for a smoother consistency).
We highly recommend classic cheese from Yagotinsky for our little ones)
Value for money - we found it on sale at ATB for 7.60 UAH. At Furshtat, it costs 9.70 UAH.
Yagotinsky for children Cheese 5%
Cheese 4.5% Agusha
And how to make these tasty treats)
I've been making live yogurts myself using the Vivo and Genesis starters.
My daughter loves the Agusha 'sleepytime' cheese with strawberries, banana, and melissa
Agusha's classic sweet cheese
Jagotynskie cheeses with fructose filler
I've been feeding my baby Gerber purple cabbage, cherry
The Carrello Caramel baby chair is a great find - it's stylish, functional, and affordable
