I've been using Ushastiy Nian powder on my older daughter's clothes since she was born, but after reading some scary stories about it, I decided to give Tobbi kids a try. I started with a small pack to see how it would work, and then ended up buying two full packs - 2.4 kg each (a 2.4 kg pack costs 280 rubles).
The packaging is cute, and I like that Tobbi kids offers products tailored to different age groups: 0-1 year, 1-3 years, and 3-7 years. Each product contains special additives to tackle specific stains associated with each age group. I've been using the 0-1 year powder on my older daughter's clothes (she's 2.5), and it's been working just fine.
Why I Trust Tobbi Kids
The nozzle on the packaging makes it easy to pour the powder. I transfer it to a different container to avoid creating a cloud when pouring, and I label it so it doesn't get damp or mixed up with adult powder.
The powder smells like baking soda, no fragrances. I think the smaller pack smells nicer, though. The manufacturer recommends washing at 60°C, but I wash at 40°C, and the powder does an excellent job removing stains from t-shirts. I've had some impressive results, especially with dried blood on a diaper (from a vaccination) that I didn't pre-treat or soak - the powder took care of it effortlessly.

Non-ionic surfactant - the safest of their kind, 100% biodegradable. They help water stick to dirt and take it away with it.
Sodium carboxymethylcellulose prevents dirt from re-depositing onto fabric. It's used as a food additive and is a component of toothpaste.
Bleach enhancer - I'm not entirely sure what it is. The manufacturer claims it's chlorine-free and safe for kids.
Polycarboxylates enhance surfactants and soften water. They're used in dentistry and are a component of dental fillings. Sounds harmless, right?
And then there's the most INTERESTING COMPONENT
Sodium tripolyphosphate. When it breaks down in the human body, phosphates disrupt blood formulas and negatively affect kidneys and liver. They also enhance the toxicity of surfactants. The consequences: toxic substances can enter a child's body even without skin irritation, dry out and weaken the skin's barrier functions, damage cell membranes, disrupt blood properties, and lower the immune system.
A bit of a mismatch, if you ask me!
I was shocked to see that this product contains phosphates. That's not exactly what I'd call a selling point. I'm glad it's not the first ingredient listed, but still, it's a major turnoff. Maybe you'll be more convinced by their website.
How Do I Get Rid of the Residue and Soften the Clothes???
Laundry detergent! First thing that came to mind (it's all about softness). I do use it sometimes for adult clothes, but for kids' laundry, I stick to good old 9% vinegar. Plus, vinegar has natural antibacterial properties.
I use 100ml for a 7kg load (50-70ml for smaller loads), and I was skeptical when I read online that vinegar helps remove residue from clothes. But it really does! And it's amazing at softening clothes, too. My little ones' clothes are now ridiculously soft. That's the secret right there!
So, Tobbi might not be perfect, but I'd still recommend it. Maybe I'll even buy it again. Now that I know how to neutralize the issue, I'm good to go!
