I'm excited for the New Year, which means it's time to start making sweet gifts for the family. I've found that pre-made candy sets can be a hit or miss with the kids, so I like to fill my own gift bags with a mix of their favorite treats and a few surprises. This year, I was on the lookout for something new to add to the mix, and that's when I spotted Twix Minis Chocolate & Gingerbread on my radar.
I have to admit, I thought these were a new release, but it looks like they've been around for a while, with reviews dating back to at least 2020. As a Twix fan, I was curious to try these gingerbread and caramel treats and see how they stacked up.

Twix Gingerbread Minis:
I couldn't find these Twix Minis with gingerbread in local shops, so I ended up buying them at Fix Price for 116 rubles for 138 grams. That works out to about 840 rubles per kilogram, which is a pretty good value for money. To put that in perspective, regular Twix Minis in Magnit already cost over 1,000 rubles per kilogram.
The packaging is pretty standard - a simple bag with no frills, except for the label with the product info. You can find the composition, nutritional value, and expiration date on the label. In terms of freshness, they're pretty good. \xa0
Appearance:
There were 18 mini treats in the pack, wrapped in green-gold foil with a red crown logo that reads "Twix". I'm not sure why, but this design reminds me of the New Year, and the flavor is closely tied to this holiday.
Each treat has some information about the product, but the black text on the foil is a bit hard to read. The manufacturer thoughtfully included the calorie count for one mini treat, which is 45 calories, or 2% of the daily recommended intake. You could say it's negligible, so feel free to have a few without worrying about your figure. Or, you know, have a few more.The mini treats themselves are essentially a slice of a larger chocolate bar.
I don't have a Twix bar at home right now, so I can't compare it to the regular size, but it looks like about a third of the standard size - either one big chunk or two smaller ones.
Of course, since it's covered in chocolate from all sides, you have to take a bite or cut it to see what's inside.

Twix bar with gingerbread flavor:
When you bite into the bar, it seems like there's not much caramel inside...
But when you cut it, you can see it's almost half the height of the gingerbread.
Honestly, I've never really taken the time to examine a Twix bar this closely, and I had no idea there's a thin layer of milk chocolate between the caramel and the gingerbread, which fills in all the nooks and crannies. When I was cutting it, the top layer even fell off.
As for the taste, it's different from the regular Twix right from the start, and it's all thanks to that gingerbread flavor.
At first, you don't really notice it, but then it starts to come through more and more until it totally takes over. I wouldn't say it's a classic gingerbread flavor, but it's definitely similar.
By the way, you don't really get any gingerbread smell from it. To me, it just smells like caramel and chocolate.
If I'm being honest, I think the bar is way too sweet, like most chocolate bars. The caramel is especially sweet, while the gingerbread is just about right. Still, it's not so bad with a cup of tea or coffee. I'm just not a big fan of super sweet things, so anything with a lot of sugar feels too sweet to me.
The chocolate in the bar is pretty good, at least I noticed how fast it melts in your hands, but of course, it's not without palm oil. These days, that's a pretty rare ingredient to find missing from a product's composition.

Overall impression:
I've got a soft spot for classic Twix and gingerbread cookies, but these candies - they're somewhere in between. I wasn't blown away, and I wasn't let down either. I probably won't be including them in my kids' New Year's gift bags, though. They're a bit too niche, and not every adult might appreciate them, let alone kids. Still, if you want to mix things up in your candy dish, go ahead and add a bag of Twix with ginger - it's a decent option.
