Tihaya Gavan in Alakhadzy, Armenia, is a real find, especially considering it just opened in April 2025. We scored an amazing deal on two rooms for 139 rubles each, including three meals a day. The secluded spot and low prices make it a great option for those looking to explore Abkhazia on a budget. However, be sure to book in advance to secure the best rates. We visited during the off-season and found some great deals on weekdays. A Hidden Gem in Abkhazia: Tihaya Gavan
We stumbled upon Tihaya Gavan in Alakhadzy, a small Armenian village just off the Pitsunda turnoff. The hotel's a real find, especially considering it just opened in April 2025.
Two of us booked rooms at the hotel, and we got an absolute steal at 139 rubles per room, including three meals a day. That's less than 200 rubles for a hotel room with food included – not bad at all.
If you're looking for similar deals, you might want to check out other hotels in Abkhazia. Prices are pretty low this time of year, and you can even find some great deals on weekdays. We chose Alakhadzy because it's a more secluded spot – and we booked another room in advance, just in case.
Keep in mind that there's a tourist tax of 200 rubles per person, on top of the room price. Since we're locals, we didn't have to pay it, but it's something to keep in mind for visitors. The good news is that the room price includes three meals a day – and that's a great value for money, especially considering the quality of the food.
Tihaya Gavan is a small village surrounded by a beautiful beach. The hotel's territory is closed off with its own parking lot – and we didn't have to pay for parking, since we were on local plates. I'm not sure if that's always the case, though.
The hotel complex is made up of several wooden buildings. The standard rooms are in the multi-story buildings, while the more spacious cottages and villas are on the other side of the territory. We saw at least one building that's still under construction, but the hotel's got a massive room inventory – so I'm not sure how they'll fit everyone in the dining hall. It's definitely a work in progress.
Proof of priceThe dining hall is in a separate building – and you have to walk down the street to get there. The food's plentiful and delicious, although it might get a bit repetitive. We were happy with the breakfast, lunch, and dinner options, and the staff did a great job keeping the buffet stocked. I was impressed by the variety of dishes and the quality of the ingredients.
There wasn't any animation on the first day, but I'm sure they'll have it in full swing by the season. The pool was still being filled when we were there, but it looked like it was going to be a great spot to relax. They promise it'll be heated to 25 degrees, and there are sun loungers, umbrellas, and music to set the mood. The beach is just a stone's throw away – and the shoreline's wide and clean, with a mix of pebbles and sand.
Each room's got its own bathroom, air conditioning, fridge, TV, internet, and a small balcony. We were on the first floor, so we had a view of the courtyard – while the corridor had a view of the nearby swamp. We timed it perfectly with the frog season, and the sound of croaking frogs was music to our ears. The rooms are definitely not designed for all seasons, but they're cozy, clean, and well-maintained, considering the hotel just opened in mid-2024.
The territory's well-maintained, with a beautiful rose garden, a kids' playground with a single slide and swings, and a few more amenities that are still under construction. The only downside is that you can't get here by public transport – you'll need a car or a transfer. But I'm sure it'll be worth it in the summer, when the sea's warm, the pool's working, and the weather's perfect.
I'd highly recommend Tihaya Gavan to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway in Abkhazia. The hotel's unique location, beautiful beach, and delicious food make it a must-visit destination. It's a great spot to unwind and recharge – and I'm sure you'll love it just as much as we did.
