A Visit to Grandma and Grandpa - What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

summarizeEditor's Summary

I recently watched The Visit, a horror movie that caught me off guard with its unique blend of humor and terror. The film's cast is well-chosen, with standout performances from the grandparents. While it's not perfect, the movie has a great balance of humor and horror, making it a fun watch. The plot is original and unpredictable, with a twisty ending that will keep you guessing. I watched it with my family and we all had different reactions - some loved it, while others were left feeling confused. The Visit is a great choice for fans of horror-comedy, but be prepared for some cringe-worthy moments.

Hello everyone!
I recently read a review of The Visit and I really enjoyed it. After watching the movie, there were a few moments that left me feeling confused...
The Visit (2015, film)
GENERAL INFORMATION:
The Visit (2015) is a 94-minute film.Genre: Horror
MOVIE SUMMARY:
Movie SummaryMany years ago, she ran away from home without looking back and has been trying not to remember that night ever since. Now, she has adult children. One day, they receive an invitation from their grandparents, whom they've never met before, and decide to pay them a visit.
CHARACTERS / PLOT:
The characters are few and far between. The main ones are the mom, who's fully shown at the beginning and the end, and the grandma, grandpa, and kids: a boy and a girl.
CharactersOther people appear, but I won't talk about them... Who are these people?
YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS FOR YOURSELF ))
---------------------------------------------
The kids went to visit their grandparents... Ordinary kids with ordinary interests, the boy reads rap, the girl films everything on her camera, actually, she's making a documentary about her family - she's the operator here... What did she film?

⚠️⚠️ I was surprised by this, but you can also figure it out by watching the movie on your own))

👩‍👦‍👦 MY IMPRESSION | MY THOUGHTS:
Overall, I enjoyed the movie... after reading the description and other reviews. I watched it, but before that, I didn't pay attention to the genre - I only looked it up after I finished watching. And I was surprised... It's a horror movie??
I found the movie to be more psychological, as it explores the problems of the human psyche, specifically what can lead to such problems and the relationships between children and parents.
There are a few moments that can be classified as horror, but you won't see them - you'll only get the outcome. There's no blood, no murders, it all unfolds calmly... In general, I still didn't figure out the genre... But what are those moments and what's the nightmare??

⚠️⚠️ You'll only figure this out by watching the movie yourself))

I'm still trying to figure out why this isn't considered a total disaster. Someone joked that the whole point of a horror movie is that we just have to go into that creepy, old, dark basement...
I have to give it to my mom - she's raised some pretty well-mannered kids... There's a part where they do go into that basement, and I have to admit, I would've done the same thing if I were in their shoes...

❗❗ YOU'VE GOTTA SEE THIS FOR YOURSELF

But, there are a few cringeworthy moments... The kids are always teasing each other about puberty... I'm not a fan of that kind of thing, but at least it doesn't last the whole movie... Overall, I do want to say that they're a pretty good family...

I mentioned earlier that other characters appeared in the movie... What they were doing and what their role was... It shed some light on the fact that there's a secret in the house.
And after watching the movie, you'll get the answer to the question: Grandma and Grandpa... Who are they?
❗❗ You'll also have to figure some things out for yourself...

I won't tell you too much, but I'll just mention that some weird things happen in the house: a broken camera, disrupted networks... But after watching the movie, everything will fall into place, and you'll know who's behind it all...?
❗❗ Watch closely...

Screenshots from the movie
The movie has very little music, I almost didn't even notice it (although there are a few moments where it's quite audible). But even if it's not there, it doesn't detract from the movie in any way...
Cinematography shots Cinematography shotsWhat I love about this film is the way it's shot. It feels like the kids are just messing around, but at the same time, it's actually really engaging.

👩‍👦‍👦 TAKEAWAYS:
I really enjoyed the film, but it's not perfect. For instance, there's no backstory, which is a bit of a letdown. However, it's easy to piece together what happened, and that's kind of the point. There are a few cringeworthy moments, but overall, it's a great reminder that we shouldn't hold grudges against our parents or kids.
It's a bit of a weird genre, to be honest. It's like this: you walk into a room, and there's a body on the floor with a hammer or an axe nearby. You can figure out what happened without being spoon-fed the details. It's like it's shot in real-time, and you only find out what happened at the end.
I'd definitely recommend this if you're a fan of unique stories, but I'm not sure I'd rewatch it anytime soon. I mean, I'd only join in if someone else was watching. My joke: I said I'd read a book, and the guy fell for it, thinking I'd ruined the story for him, but when he realized it was a joke, he laughed because I hadn't even read it!
But a second watch would be pretty straightforward – it wouldn't be the same.

✔PROS:
Unconventional storylineWell-balanced humorGreat cast selectionInteresting finaleStrong actingNo supernatural elementsUnique twistEngaging charactersGreat granny actingNo ghostsxa0
✖ CONS:

That's all, folks! Take care of yourselves and your loved ones... 😉🧸
