The Vanished World by Thomas Sweterlitsch

Imagine a world where entire cities and cultures just vanished overnight. That's the reality in Thomas Sweterlitsch's mind-blowing novel, The Vanished World. A catastrophic event has left behind only remnants of what used to be, and our protagonist is on a mission to uncover the secrets of this lost world. You'll explore the ruins of civilization, the strength of the human spirit, and the harsh price of survival in a world that's been forever changed.

A Thrilling Page-Turner: Thomas Sweterlitsch's 'The Lost Book'

summarizeEditor's Summary

I stumbled upon Thomas Sweterlitsch's books by chance, and I'm so glad I did. His unique blend of science fiction, space travel, time travel, detective work, and thriller elements in 'The Lost Book' had me hooked from the start. The writing is top-notch, and the complex story is full of twists and turns. I was immediately drawn to the cover art, which mentions that 'The Lost Book' is similar to 'True Detective' and 'The Three-Body Problem'. With its dark and complex atmosphere, this book is a must-read for fans of TV and movies. I loved how Sweterlitsch weaves together multiple storylines and timelines to create a gripping narrative that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The characters are well-developed, especially agent Shannon Moss, who's a great protagonist. If you're a fan of science fiction, space travel, and thriller elements, you'll love this book.

A Thrilling Page-Turner: Thomas Sweterlitsch's 'The Lost Book'
I stumbled upon Thomas Sweterlitsch's books by chance, and I'm so glad I did. I found him last year, and this year I'm hooked again. His writing style is just amazing.
I've only read 'The Lost Book' so far, but I'm eager to dive into more of his works.
One of the things that drew me to this book was its unique blend of science fiction, space travel, time travel, detective work, and thriller elements. It's a dark and complex story that's full of twists and turns, but the writing is top-notch.
As a fan of TV and movies, I was immediately drawn to the cover art, which mentions that 'The Lost Book' is similar to 'True Detective' and 'The Three-Body Problem'. And I can see why - the book has a similar atmosphere and tone to those shows.
The plot of 'The Lost Book' is a wild ride. It starts with agent Shannon Moss investigating the murder of a marine's family, only to uncover a much larger conspiracy. I won't give away any spoilers, but let's just say that nothing is as it seems. I'd recommend jotting down your thoughts at the beginning and end of the book to see how your perspective changes.
One of the things that I loved about this book was the way it explored the theme of time travel. The author does a great job of explaining the complexities of time travel and how it affects the characters. It's a really interesting and thought-provoking aspect of the story.
The characters in 'The Lost Book' are well-developed and complex. Shannon Moss is a special agent of the US Space Force, and she's a great protagonist. She's brave, lost a leg in one of the missions, so now she uses a prosthetic, which makes it harder to complete tasks. She's a pretty relatable character, not a fearless supergirl, not a genius who always figures things out, and she's got empathy.
The supporting characters are also great, and the twist is that because of time travel, people change due to certain circumstances. And it's really clear with a few of Shannon's acquaintances - it's chilling. And the fact that you can't be sure about people, even when you're friends with them.
Even when another character shows up, you immediately get nervous because you know that the world and time can change, and the character can become unrecognizable (or not change, but you'll still sit there wondering). The note of uncertainty is really invigorating.
The author's language and style are very clear. There are some complex points about physics or quantum physics, but in general, it's understandable. The author's vocabulary is good. The text is easy to read - and that's one of the reasons why the book flew under my radar in less than a week. The descriptions are good, but when the bloody details start, you almost wish they weren't there. The dialogue is normal and relatable. The atmosphere is its own, but very dark.
I actually stopped reading 'The Real Detective' because of this, but after finishing 'The Lost Book', I might start it again - maybe this book has given me immunity.
The themes and ideas in this book are plenty - love, friendship, future, apocalypse, moral choices, and more. I'd definitely recommend this book to fans of mystery and fantasy. The plot is engaging, the characters are well-developed, and the author's writing style is top-notch. If you're looking for a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat, then 'The Lost Book' is a great choice.
This book didn't get to the top 10 by chance - it's a well-deserved winner of the 'Babylon Fish' award.
If 'The Vanished World' gets adapted into a movie - I hope they don't change anything and the adaptation stays true to the book. Then it'll be enjoyable for those who haven't read the book but have seen the movie.
I can give this book 4+ stars, because I only give 5 stars to books I'd re-read. This story is over, I've read it, and there's no need to re-read it (unless before the movie adaptation) But the 'Babylon Fish' award isn't given for nothing. This book is worth all its awards and nominations.
Here are a few more books you might enjoy:
An interesting diary from a famous actorFor a cozy winter atmosphereA harsh but honest bookA great magical fantasyA funny book by my favorite author to lift your moodA heavy but interesting bookA book with a continuation I'm eagerly waiting forA thrilling book that was adapted into a series
