The Girl on the Train by Paul Hawkins

I'm obsessed with this psychological thriller - a woman becomes fixated on a picture-perfect couple, but their lives are a total mess.

Hey everyone!

I was watching this movie called 'The Girl on the Train' and later found out there's a book with the same title... So, I bought it on Valobris.

"The Girl on the Train" by Paula Hawkins

BOOK INFO:

"The Girl on the Train" by Paula Hawkins

Published: 2015Publisher: ASTGenre: Adult fiction, psychological thriller

SUMMARY | PLOT:

"The Girl on the Train" by Paula HawkinsJess and Jason - those are the names Rachel gave to the perfect couple she watches from her train window every day. They seem to have everything Rachel once had - love, happiness, and a secure life. But one day, as she passes by their house, she sees something strange and disturbing. It's just a minute, and the train is moving again, but that's enough to shatter the perfect picture. And then, Jess disappears. Rachel realizes she might be the only one who can uncover the truth behind her disappearance. But will the police take her seriously? And should she even get involved in someone else's life?

M Y IMPRESSION | REVIEW:

I found out about this book by chance... But it's not available in my local bookstores... I guess you can find it on Valobris or online. Funny thing - there was only one copy left, and each store had only one copy. It was clear that my book had been read before - the cover was worn out, the pages were bent, and it looked like it had been handled roughly. I still bought it, though. When I started reading, I noticed that the book wasn't new. There were crumbs and cookie bits stuck between the pages. It was a shame, but I was still excited to read it.

"The Girl on the Train" by Paula Hawkins"The Girl on the Train" by Paula HawkinsWhen I read, I highlight quotes, and this time, I highlighted almost the entire book. My husband teases me, calling it a summary.

"The Girl on the Train" by Paula Hawkins"The Girl on the Train" by Paula HawkinsI've gotta say, the characters in this book are all so different. You've got your tough guys, your timid ones, your angry ones, your depressed ones... Each one's got their own story, their own struggles. And you know what? You get to read about them all for yourself. Trust me, you'll be hooked!

One character that really stood out to me was Anna. I mean, this girl's got some serious issues. She's got a history of sleeping around, and she's got a real problem with manipulation. I mean, she's the kind of person who'll do just about anything to get what she wants. And let me tell you, it's not pretty. But you'll have to read the book to find out more about Anna's antics...

"The Girl on the Train" by Paula HawkinsEven Rachel, who's got her own set of problems, is a bit more relatable. I mean, she's got a tough time dealing with her addiction, and she's got a real struggle with memory loss. But despite all her flaws, she's a pretty empathetic person. And you know what? She's got a lot of guts. But you'll have to read the book to find out more about Rachel's story...

"The Girl on the Train" by Paula HawkinsAnd then there are the guys - Scott and Tom. Let's just say they're not exactly the most faithful husbands. I mean, they're both cheating on their wives, and they're both pretty reckless. But despite all their flaws, they're pretty interesting characters. And you'll get to read all about their antics in the book...

I've got to say, another character that really stood out to me was Megan. You can't help but feel a little bit of sympathy for her, but at the same time, you're also thinking, 'What is she doing?' I mean, she's got a pretty complicated life, but instead of trying to get her act together, she just keeps making things worse. It's like she's this entitled girl who needs a psychiatrist, not a therapist. You can find out more about what she's done and how she's been living after reading the book!

"The Girl on the Train" by Paula Hawkins"The Girl on the Train" by Paula HawkinsI read this book in a couple of weeks, probably around 20 days. I was quoting so many lines... But when I was reading the book, the main character kept popping into my head, and it was Jennifer Aniston. I don't know why, but I think she'd be perfect for the role. I actually watched the movie when I'd read about half the book, thinking it would help me keep track of the characters. But that was a mistake. The differences between the book and the movie are pretty significant, and after reading part of the book, it was hard to keep track of what was happening. For example, I'd get confused about who was living where, or when someone got fired from their job. These little details would get jumbled up, and I'd be wondering if it was in the book or the movie. Maybe it's better to read the book first and then watch the movie, or to watch the movie a few months before reading the book.

"The Girl on the Train" by Paula HawkinsIt's a great combination of a detective story and a psychological thriller. You get to observe and analyze the behavior and actions of the main characters, and also follow the investigation into the murder. The book is written in a way that makes you try to figure out who the killer is, and you can think about the clues and try to solve the mystery. Plus, the book is written in a diary format, with dates and descriptions of the days. Rachel is in the present, while Megan is a year in the past, but she gradually catches up with Rachel's story. Anna is only mentioned occasionally, and there's not a lot written about her.

"The Girl on the Train" by Paula HawkinsWhen I was on the train, this book was my companion. It helped me pass the time and stay calm during the long ride...

THE VERDICT:

I'd definitely recommend it. It's not exactly a young adult book, it deals with family issues and different personalities, but it's pretty easy to read... It's a pretty engaging read... We're all different, and some people might love it, while others won't. Either way, I think everyone can find something in this book... I think it's perfect for those who enjoy psychology... It's a mix of a detective story and psychology, and I can say for sure that it's different from the usual stuff, but it's still really interesting.

A Book that Could Mess with Your Head - Not in a Good Way

A psychological thriller that'll keep you guessing, but not in a good way. Unpredictable plot, complex characters, and themes that'll make you question reality.
