I just finished reading the second book in the fairy tale series, and I'm still trying to process everything. If you think fairy tales are only for kids, think again - this one's got plenty to offer.
This year, I've been on a fantasy novel kick, and somehow, that's all I can seem to get my hands on. I'll be sharing my thoughts on all the books I read, but let's start with the sequel to the book about the 13th fairy - The 13th Fairy: Ensnared by Ice by Adrian Julia.
This is the second part of a trilogy, with the third installment still to come. I know I said I wouldn't read unfinished series, but I'm glad I made an exception for this one. The wait for the next book has become a pleasant torture - I'm already counting down the days until I can dive back into the world of these characters.
Romance is scarce in the second part, but it's woven throughout almost every chapter. After all, this book's about finding and holding onto love for a lifetime. The author does a great job of capturing its complexities, and it's a beautiful thing to see.
Some call her Lilit, others the Queen, and a few a witch. But to her sisters, she's the 13th fairy, a powerful avenger risen from a deep sleep. And her revenge is terrifying - five of the twelve sisters fell in a desperate battle. Judgment day is approaching: in a distant Antarctica, the remaining sisters will decide the fate of the most fearsome fairy. Only the Seventh fairy knows the secret to awakening the witch and putting an end to evil... But her strength is waning, and with it, her only chance to summon the Queen to justice...
By the second part, the 13th fairy - or simply the Queen - is more confident, with her head held high. She's come a long way since the first book, and it's amazing to see her growth.
This part has more magic, with almost every page infused with it, making the book a real page-turner. You won't see the Hunter in this part, just his thoughts and musings. But love is still a strong theme, showing the imperfections of love and comparing relationships - just like in real life. Maybe that's why this book is so addictive - because it's relatable, yet full of magic.
The author's writing style is simple and easy to follow, making it easy to devour the book in a day. But you won't want to leave the characters behind, and instead, you'll want to prolong the pleasure of reading. The characters are well-described, without being too long-winded or detailed, but you'll still get a clear picture of them in your head. The author uses comparisons, metaphors, and epithets, even occasional oxymorons.
This book raises plenty of topics worth discussing, making it perfect to read with a friend and then chat about over a cup of tea. It's one of those books that will stay with you long after you finish reading it, and you'll find yourself thinking about the characters and their stories for days to come.
I'd definitely suggest this book to anyone who loves fantasy and stories about magic. And for those who do, they'll find these two books fascinating, as they're about the one who created this magic. It's a unique and captivating world, full of wonder and excitement.
Until next time, and happy reading!
