8 Million Kids Go Missing Each Year: What Happened to Dylan Jones?

summarizeEditor's Summary

I picked up 'Take My Hand' expecting a gripping thriller, but what I got was a pretty underwhelming experience. The story felt like a chore to get through, and the characters lacked depth. I was hoping for a more engaging and suspenseful read, but 'Take My Hand' just didn't deliver. The topic of missing children is a serious issue that deserves more attention, and the book does raise awareness about it. But let's be real, there are better ways to do that. The stats are pretty sobering - around 8 million kids go missing every year, with the US having around 460,000 missing kids, the UK around 112,000, and so on. I was expecting a more nuanced exploration of this issue, but 'Take My Hand' fell flat.

A Disappointing Thriller: My Thoughts on 'Take My Hand'
I picked up 'Take My Hand' expecting a thrilling page-turner, but what I got was a pretty mediocre book that felt like a chore to get through. As someone who enjoys a good thriller, I was looking forward to diving into this story, but unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to my expectations.
Before I get into my thoughts on the book, let's talk about the issue of missing children. Apparently, around 8 million kids go missing every year. But the thing is, not all cases are reported, so the actual number could be even higher. It's a sobering statistic, and one that highlights the importance of being aware of our surroundings and taking steps to stay safe.
Here are some countries and the number of missing kids in each:
The US has around 460,000 missing kids; The UK has around 112,000 missing kids;Germany has around 100,000 missing kids;India has around 96,000 missing kids;Canada and Russia have around 45,000 missing kids each;Spain and Australia have around 20,000 missing kids each.Almost 95% of missing kids wander off on their own, 4% become victims of crimes, and 1% get lost due to natural or man-made disasters.
This book, 'Take My Hand', is about a kid who went missing 30 years ago. Eight-year-old Josie Masters witnessed the kidnapping of seven-year-old Dylan Jones during a carnival parade. The boy was taken by a clown with red hair, and Josie tried to get people's attention, but it was too late. The clown and Dylan vanished, and Dylan was never found.
I recently went through a personal tragedy and a breakup, and then I heard about the remains of a boy being found - probably the one I last saw at the fair. The thing that caught my attention was that the remains were found with a man in a clown costume, which is a pretty clichéd trope in the US. We also have another missing boy in our town, 30 years after the first one.
I tried to figure out if these cases were connected and who was behind them. But the more I read, the more I felt like I was missing the 'why' behind the characters' decisions and actions.

The ending was like something out of a Hollywood movie - not in the sense that everyone lived happily ever after, but that the killer was the butler.
I'd recommend this book, but only if you're looking for something light and easy to read, like a beach read. If you're a fan of thrillers, you might want to skip this one and try something else. I personally prefer thrillers like 'Angels for Sisters' by Jodi Picoult, 'Who Asks for Forgiveness' by Vadim Panov, 'The Vanished' by Mary Kubica, 'Nineteen Minutes' by Jodi Picoult, or 'I Watch You' by Teresa Driscoll. They're all much better than 'Take My Hand'.
Overall, I was disappointed by 'Take My Hand'. While it's a decent read, it's not a particularly memorable or engaging one. If you're looking for a thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat, you might want to look elsewhere.
Rating: 2.5/5 stars
Pros: Easy to read, light and engaging
Cons: Lackluster plot, unengaging characters, clichéd tropes
