Hello there!
I used to be obsessed with sushi, but then I overdid it and they just got boring. I took a break for a long time, and now I've fallen in love with it all over again.
While browsing the web, I stumbled upon an amazing recipe for an express version of sushi that you can make at home. I decided to give it a try and bought nori chips, which I usually only get for snacks because I just love them.
The most affordable option is sold at Fix Price (around 40 rubles), and I'm happy with the taste, but only without any additives. We have those kinds of nori chips, and they're super popular, so I bought some from Magnet on a whim.
With all the discounts, they cost me around 40 rubles, which is the same as the original price of 60 rubles without any promo codes. For a standard 4.5-gram package. It seems like a small amount, but trust me, it's enough for a full snack. The calorie count is high:
447 kcal per 100 grams
3.9 grams of protein
42.5 grams of fat
12.2 grams of carbohydrates
But considering the small weight, the entire package has only 20.12 kcal.
These chips come in a color-sealed packaging that's a lovely shade of green. The inside is foil-lined to keep the product fresh.Up front, you've got the chips, the brand name, and the weight. I think the design looks great and it definitely grabs my attention.
When you shake the pack, you can find all the useful info on each side: production date, ingredients, manufacturer, and expiration date, and more.
Incidentally, these chips have a shelf life of 15 months, which means you can stock up in bulk and save some cash - something I've been doing, actually.
The chips are stored in a transparent plastic container to prevent them from breaking - they're pretty delicate and thin.
I was happy to see a sachet of silica gel included, which serves as protection against moisture. It's a thoughtful touch that shows the manufacturer has considered the details, as indicated by the label: "Dispose of this sachet if you plan to consume the chips immediately." I've tried different brands, and this is a feature I've only seen in a few.
It's worth noting that after opening, it's best to enjoy the chips quickly and store them in a dry place to maintain their crunch and prevent moisture absorption from the air.
The chips themselves are a lovely shade of green, with no visible stains. They're translucent due to their thinness (about 1mm), giving them a delicate appearance that reminds me of dried leaves. The surface is smooth and glossy, thanks to the oil content. They're small, rectangular pieces, roughly 3x5cm in size.
I think the high oil content is what makes this product feel so satisfying and filling.
I've gotta say, describing the taste of these seaweed chips is tough if you've never tried them before. It's like trying to put into words the flavor of dried kelp (laminaria).
The aroma is subtle, but unmistakable. It's got a salty taste, with a smoky undertone that's pretty distinct. If you're used to plain, straightforward potato chip flavors, these are going to be a wild ride. But there's something undeniably oceanic about them, and I get the sense that they're straight out of a Japanese kitchen.
For some reason, I sometimes find myself wondering if I'm eating a seafood dish instead. It's definitely a love-it-or-hate-it kind of thing, and I'm firmly in the 'love' camp. That being said, I think it's worth trying to see if you like it. You might find that adding some extra flavorings like wasabi or teriyaki makes them taste even better, but for me, the classic version in oil is where it's at.
The fact that these chips are made with all-natural ingredients is a major plus in my book:They're packed with vitamins and antioxidants (A, C, E) and other plant-based compounds (carotenoids, flavonoids) that help protect cells from damage.
I do want to note that a colleague of mine has a severe iodine allergy, so these aren't a good choice for her. But for me, I've found only pros:
+ They're lightweight and compact, making them easy to take on the go.
+ They're a great source of vitamins.
+ The all-natural ingredients are a big draw for me.
+ They're surprisingly filling and delicious.
+ They're low in calories, too.
So, I've been enjoying these nori chips as a quick snack, and I'm really impressed with the value for money.
The secret to this recipe is using an egg carton as a mold. I line it with plastic wrap, and then layer in all the ingredients I have at home. I cook the rice in microwaveable packets for convenience.
The result is super tasty and ridiculously easy. On the photo above, I've listed the ingredients in the exact order I layer them.
These nori chip ideas have been a lifesaver for me when I'm craving something delicious. I actually love them on their own, too.
I'm really happy with my purchase, and I'd definitely recommend these nori chips to anyone looking for a tasty and healthy snack.
This is why I'm giving it a perfect 5 out of 5 rating.
Thanks for reading, and enjoy your snack!
