Hello there!
Last June, my family and I spent two weeks at the Tarkhany sanatorium in Piatigorsk, and I'm still raving about one of the treatments I had - the sulfur steam facial.
I decided to give it a try, curious about the effects and not put off by the smell of sulfur.
Tarkhany SanatoriumWe had eight procedures in total, each costing 300 rubles if booked separately. I found it weird that they performed facial and head irrigations in the same room as intestinal procedures, but at least in different rooms. So, after my facial irrigation, I headed to the micro-encapsulation room for medicinal herbs.
It's a good idea to bring a towel, but I sometimes forgot. If you do, they'll give you a paper towel instead, but it's not enough to dry off completely.
The facial irrigation room had two machines for the face, one for the head, and three for the gums.As I'd done gum irrigations before at the Orjonikidze Sanatorium in Kисловодск, I was curious to compare the experience. My daughter, however, refused to try it for acne treatment.
The facial misting device consists of a container with an oval opening where you place your face. There's a plastic apron at the bottom to prevent getting your clothes wet. However, the first time I used it, I struggled to get the hang of it, so after the procedure, I ended up dripping wet. Since then, I've worn a fluffy robe, which is no big deal if it gets wet.
Sulfur facial mistingAfter placing your face in the container, the nurse turns on the shower and sets a timer for 5 minutes. The gentle water droplets massage your skin, and I got used to the smell of sulfur pretty quickly – it didn't bother me. The water temperature is comfortable.
I also drank the water from the dispenser, and I got used to it pretty fast. The smell of rotten eggs quickly becomes familiar.
During the procedure, I breathed through my mouth, as I couldn't breathe through my nose, and I spat out any excess water.
Sulfur facial mistingIndications for misting:acne;enlarged pores;excess sebum on the skin;dull complexion;loss of skin elasticity;expression lines.I was expecting an anti-aging effect from the misting, but I don't have any skin issues. My daughters suggested this procedure for acne and post-acne treatment, and there are other indications as well. This procedure also improves facial blood circulation and is recommended after certain types of injuries.
However, there are contraindications:
allergic reactions;eczema;skin infections. This is how I looked immediately after the procedure. The facial swelling is partly due to the fact that I went for the procedure in the morning, right after waking up. The water also has a peculiar effect on me – in sanatoriums, I initially swell up, and then a positive effect appears.Overall, the experience is comfortable, and a morning shower like this is really invigorating.
The benefits of using carbonic-sulfur water for facial spritzingCarbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide in mineral water get trapped in the skin and start working – improving blood microcirculation, reducing inflammation, speeding up tissue regeneration and wound healing.
The effects are noticeable after just a few sessions: collagen and elastin production increases, the skin becomes more elastic, fine lines are smoothed out, and the complexion improves.
I'm 45+, and I've got wrinkles, enlarged pores, and redness. I used facial spritzing to try and reduce all these signs of aging. You can't completely get rid of them, especially not with such a gentle procedure.
The results I got were great. When the puffiness went down, I noticed a significant improvement in my skin tone, reduced wrinkles, and a more toned face. Hydrogen sulfide has a gentle exfoliating effect – it helps remove dead skin cells and clean the skin.I was even brave enough to go without makeup on vacation. And nobody was scared of me.
I highly recommend trying this procedure if it's offered at a sanatorium or spa where you're on vacation or getting treatment. Even if it's not part of my package, I'd pay for it separately. I really loved it.
