My Unintentional Water Fasting Experiment: What Happens When You Stop Eating for 5 Days

summarizeEditor's Summary

I'm not a fan of extreme diets, but my body has a mind of its own. During periods of high stress, I find that I just stop eating until the stress is gone. Recently, my daughter and I ended up in the hospital for five days, where we only drank water. I'm still trying to process what happened – and whether water fasting is actually good for me. To be honest, I was a bit of a skeptic at first, but I was also curious to see how my body would react. Would I lose weight quickly? Would I feel more focused and alert? And what about the potential health risks? I'm still trying to figure all that out.

Hello there!
I'm not a fan of extreme diets or restrictive eating. My body has a mind of its own, and it decides when it needs to fast and when it doesn't. During periods of high stress, I find that my body just refuses to eat until the stress is gone.
Recently, my daughter came down with a nasty stomach bug. She was vomiting nonstop, and I knew I was in over my head. I ended up getting hospitalized, and she had to go on an IV for five days straight. She didn't eat a thing during that time, and neither did I. I only drank water the whole time, and I didn't get any IV fluids myself – until I realized I hadn't eaten in three days!
What's water fasting all about?
Water fasting is a process where you give up all food for an extended period but drink water in unlimited quantities. There's still a lot of debate about its effectiveness and benefits, but the reviews are in – and they're convincing. When done right, water fasting can be a real game-changer.
Weight Loss on Water Before and After I decided to go with water fasting since I'd already started unintentionally skipping meals. I just couldn't eat anyway, especially since my "love handles" really needed to shrink. The rest of my body was just fine.Weight Loss on Water Reviews from Real PeopleWater Fasting Diet ReviewsWaist and Belly Measurements:
These measurements were taken completely by accident! I was trying to tackle my diastasis recti with the "vacuum belly" exercise. I made the measurements, did the exercise for 10 days, and... well, it didn't quite work out as planned. But I did end up going on a water fast, and the measurements came in handy.
Before the water fast, my waist measured 72 cm, and my belly measured 81 cm.
Weight Loss on Water ReviewsWater Fasting Before and After PhotosMeasurements After Water Fasting:
After five days of water fasting, during which I only drank water, my waist measured 68 cm, and my belly measured 79 cm.
Before and after water fasting photos. Before and after photos. I lost 4 cm around my waist and 2 cm around my stomach. I didn't measure my hips, but I'm pretty sure I lost a few centimeters there too.
The results are impressive, but there are a lot of "buts"!
My takeaways:
First of all, I lost too much weight. I mean, 4 kg in a month is a victory for me, but 5 kg in 5 days? That's scary! I looked exhausted on the photos, and all my curves were gone – it was like I'd lost all my shape.
Water fasting reviews. I was shocked when I looked at the photos. My booty was gone, and my legs were so skinny that there was a huge gap between them – it was like I'd lost all my muscle mass.
Water fasting reviews. Where's my booty? It's gone!
Water fasting reviews and photos. The photos don't look as bad as I felt in real life. But when I looked at them, I was shocked – my booty was almost gone, and my legs were so skinny that there was a huge gap between them.
How to Starve Yourself: Real People's ReviewsWater Fasting Reviews from Real PeopleI can tell you from personal experience, it's really tough to sit through a starvation diet without taking a break. In fact, I was so weak during those days that I could barely move. I was either taking care of my daughter, who was also mostly sleeping and resting, or sleeping myself. I honestly don't know how people can work or do household chores during a water fast. It's just not something I could imagine myself doing.
By the third day, I started experiencing toothaches. It felt like all my teeth were getting ready to fall out, even though there were no visible signs of trouble. I was worried that I might have gotten some kind of infection, but the pain went away as soon as I started eating again. I still don't know what caused it.
I've already mentioned my complete lack of energy, but I didn't mention my mood. Let's just say that my mood was pretty terrible during those days. I was also super irritable and even got annoyed by phone calls.
Hydration:
For the first three days, I didn't pay much attention to how much water I was drinking, but I did drink a lot. I always do that when I'm stressed out – I drink lots of water and nothing else.
Weight Loss through Fasting: Real People's ReviewsBy the end of the third day, I finally remembered that I hadn't eaten anything and decided to continue the fast. However, for the next two days, I made sure to drink at least 2 liters of water. I ended up drinking way more than that, and I never went below 2 liters.
Contraindications:
Like any other diet, water fasting has its contraindications. Starving yourself is a big no-no if you have any of the following conditions:
anorexia; cancer; active tuberculosis; type 1 diabetes; bronchiectatic disease; heart and blood vessel diseases; thyrotoxicosis; liver, kidney, and heart problems; thrombophlebitis; nervous exhaustion; pregnancy, breastfeeding; encephalopathy.
If you have any of these conditions, fasting is not recommended.
Results:
I've already mentioned the results. I lost 4cm from my waist and 2cm from my stomach area. And overall, I lost 4kg. To be honest, that's too much for me. With the kilograms and centimeters gone, all the curves of my body disappeared, and I started looking gaunt.
Water fasting reviews. Fasting on water before and after. Still, fasting turned out to be too extreme for me. Now I'm gaining weight back. I want to get back to my 49-50kg.
My Verdict:
Five-day fasting wasn't for me. Yes, I lost weight, but I looked gaunt, and to make matters worse, I got tooth decay and lost all my energy.
Real reviews of water fasting for weight loss. If I decide to try fasting again, I won't do it for more than a couple of days. Long-term fasting can have negative effects on your health.
Not to mention, I didn't like how my thighs and legs looked after fasting.
Real people's reviews on water fasting for weight loss.I have to say, I didn't experience that intense of an effect when I tried intermittent fasting.
Based on my experience, I wouldn't recommend water fasting to anyone.
Before and after photos of weight loss on water fasting.Still, if you're determined to try it, I think it's better to do it under a doctor's supervision.
Thanks for reading my review!
