St. Petersburg's Living Paper Museum is a must-visit destination that I happened to discover on my first trip to the city. Its convenient location near many hotels makes it an easy addition to your itinerary. The entrance fee is 300 rubles (as of 2024), which is a small price to pay for the unique experience that awaits you. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and they'll even ask where you're from, which adds to the charm.
The entrance is greeted by this adorable cat couple- We're Doublegise, I guess
The staff seems to be fans of the Doublegise electronic guide, which we'd never heard of before. They then showed us the papier-mâché exhibits, and nostalgia hit me - I remembered making bowls out of it in art class when I was in 1st or 2nd grade.
The interactive exhibits are the highlight of the museum, in my opinion. You can touch and even try them on, which is a lot of fun. I enthusiastically started measuring the extravagant hats and taking selfies.
I felt like the woman from the candybaber memeJust a funny hatPrincess or queenMaleficentAnd there are also large, cumbersome figures:
A stern dragonThe SpiderI can just imagine someone buying this creepy spider decoration for their home - you don't even need a security system after that!
A phrase board with famous sayings is also on display. Try to guess them.
Here's the signThe cat that...And here's the whole thing. I recognized everything except the log.
18+ shelf. If you don't have kids, you can ask to see it - it's pretty obvious what's waiting for you there.
The most censored thing you can showI also saw a wishing tree where you can hang your own wish - unfortunately, I didn't manage to take a photo.
And that's not all:
And of course, no gift shop would be complete without souvenirs!
These adorable little critters have taken over our homeThe price is around 800 rubles per item. I got myself a cat named Shampoo, and my husband bought the rest of the menagerie. Now they're bringing us joy and reminding us of Peter. Some might say it's expensive, but it's handmade work - unique, original items can't be cheap.
They also have a workshop where you can attend masterclasses.
I have to say, this unassuming little underground museum won me over way more than those flashy, overhyped ones. There's a cozy atmosphere here - it's warm, peaceful, and really beautiful. I didn't want to leave, and I'd definitely go back if I'm ever in St. Petersburg again. I wish every city had a place like this.
