Snowpiercer: A Thrilling Ride with a Few Bumps Along the Way

summarizeEditor's Summary

Snowpiercer is a gripping post-apocalyptic series that hooked me from the start. With its unique premise and well-developed characters, I binge-watched the entire first season in one sitting. The show's engaging storyline and thought-provoking themes make it a must-watch for fans of the genre. What really stood out to me was the show's attention to detail - from the elaborate train sets to the intricate social hierarchy within the train's cars. The show's not without its flaws, but it's worth checking out, even if it's a wild ride with some intense moments along the way.

Hello there!
I'm a huge fan of post-apocalyptic series, and Snowpiercer is right up there with the best of them. I thought I'd just watch one episode before bed, but I ended up binge-watching the entire first season. I was completely hooked!
There are currently four seasons, each with ten episodes that are all 50 minutes long.
What's the show about?
Engineer Wilford built a long train to save humanity from the impending ice age. It's a chilling -120 degrees outside, and the train is moving at high speed for seven years, with no stops allowed...
In the train, there's a strict class hierarchy - the wealthy bought first-class tickets and are living it up in the first car, while the working class is stuck in the third, and those without tickets are at the back.
Each car is uniquely designed - there's even an aquarium car. The car with the cows is pretty interesting too.
Night train with dancing and shows...
Tails live in terrible conditions, without light, starving. People have their hands cut off in cold blood, it's a horrific sight...
When they killed Mel, Mr. Wilford's right-hand man, his right-hand man tries to keep a level head, hiring a detective from the tail - Andre.
Andre's only dream is for everyone to live in equal conditions. Using his position, Andre uncovers the locomotive's secrets, leading to a revolution.
The whole second and third season will be showing the aftermath of the revolution and civil war.
My opinion on the show
I couldn't help myself, and after the first season, I immediately started watching the beginning of season four.
The first season was super interesting and super dynamic. Something was always happening. It's one of those cases where you can't sleep until you find out how it all ends.
The second season wasn't as interesting. It felt like each episode was dragging on, with more questions and illogical moments.
Season three - I have to admit, I didn't binge-watch it like I did with the previous seasons. The storyline just didn't grab me. It's like they're trying to keep me interested, but it's a chore to watch. The characters are all over the place, and it's hard to keep track of who's good and who's bad. But, I will give them credit - the new locations are a nice touch.
Casting is top-notch.
I love how the characters flip-flop between good and bad. It's like they're trying to keep me on my toes. The leader of the train crew has a lot of power, and it's interesting to see how the other characters react to them.
Now, let me talk about my favorite characters.
Ruth, the head of guest services (played by Alison Wright), is my favorite character. At first, I thought she was this hard-nosed woman who would take a child's hand away. But as the series progressed, she revealed herself to be this incredibly honest, smart, and dedicated person.
Andre (played by David Diggs) was the main character in the first season, and his storyline was key. But in the following seasons, he just sort of... softened, and it wasn't as interesting.
The show does a great job of balancing the darker and more uplifting moments. There are some pretty intense scenes, but also some really heartwarming ones.
Freezing to death became a regular practice when there was no way to justify a crime.
Those who weren't useful were thrown into cells. When needed, they'd pull them back out.
There's a place for love on the train...
But not everyone's allowed to get pregnant.
I just finished watching the series, and I'm sad that they cut the third season short. It's getting more and more ridiculous and illogical. In the third part, they introduce a new character who manages to survive in those harsh conditions. Is she interesting? Not at all. Maybe she'll have an impact on the story later, but I've lost interest in watching the fourth season.
I highly recommend checking out the first season of Snowpiercer. Maybe the second one too. The third season is definitely not worth your time.
Thanks for reading!
