Hello everyone!
I recently had the chance to watch the classic thriller 'Sliver' for the first time, and I'm still reeling from the experience.
This 1993 American thriller is a must-watch for fans of the genre, with a compelling story that will keep you engaged from start to finish.
I was only one year old when the movie first came out, so I didn't get to see it back then!
The director of the film is Phil Noyce, a master of the thriller genre.
According to Wikipedia, this movie was a huge success back in the day, and it's easy to see why - the story is engaging, the acting is top-notch, and the plot twists will keep you guessing until the very end.
One of the things that stood out to me was the way the movie balances action and suspense with romance and sensuality. The result is a film that's both thrilling and erotic, with plenty of twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat.
The good news is that you can watch this classic for free - it's available on VK without any paid subscriptions!
And the best part? The movie is only 1 hour and 48 minutes long, making it a quick and easy watch.
The plot
The story centers around Carly (played by Sharon Stone), a young woman who moves into a high-rise apartment building and discovers a dark secret about her new home.
As Carly delves deeper into the mystery, she finds herself drawn to two men - Jack Lansford (played by Tom Berenger) and Zik Hawkins (played by William Baldwin).
But as the story unfolds, Carly realizes that nothing is as it seems, and she must navigate a complex web of secrets and lies to uncover the truth.
Sharon Stone shines as Carly, bringing a depth and nuance to the character that's simply captivating.
But what really sets the movie apart is its ability to balance the thriller and sensuality elements. The result is a film that's both thrilling and erotic, with plenty of twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat.
The male leads.
Carly's got a thing for two guys, no surprise there.
The first guy is Jack Lansford.
(Played by Tom Berenger)
He's a writer, a creative type.
Definitely an interesting guy, but sometimes a bit weird.
The second guy is a young bloke named Zik Hawkins.
I have to admit, at first, I thought Zik was a total nerd, but then he surprised me - he's a total wild card, a testosterone-fueled hot mess!
And the truth is, the guy's got some secrets up his sleeve.
Too bad I can't give that away, it's a major plot twist!
HEIGHTS
It's worth noting that Zik's got a pretty tight connection to the building where Carly lives.
The high-rise has some dark secrets.
And it's not just the creepy atmosphere - people are actually dying in this building, one by one...
An interesting fact about the high-rise building.
Zik's building, Silver Heights, was actually inspired by a real-life 32-story skyscraper in New York City called Morgan Court, located at 211 Madison Avenue on Manhattan. This ultra-modern building was chosen for its sleek design and panoramic views.
Apparently, after the movie came out, the prices for apartments in this high-rise skyrocketed!
I've got to say, the title of this movie, 'Sliver', is no coincidence.
The film 'Sliver' got its name from the trendy high-rise building 'Sliver Heights', where the story takes place.
Thriller or erotic flick?
And it's both, really! There's a ton of erotic content in this movie!
The erotic scenes are gorgeous and really, really long!
The infamous underwear scene at the restaurant ⬇️
I've seen this iconic scene from Pulp Fiction in TikTok, where Uma Thurman's character, Mia, coolly removes her garter and tosses it to John Travolta's character, Vincent. Those passionate games between the main characters are just so intense.
The film left me with a strange dissonance.
On one hand, the movie tries to get you pumped up and engaged, but how can you get in the mood for a romantic scene when there are murders happening and you're trying to figure out who's behind the sinister crimes?
The music.
The soundtrack is incredible throughout the entire film.
Enigma — Carly's Song (and the Carly's Loneliness variation) - the most recognizable theme.
UB40 — Can't Help Falling In Love.
Massive Attack - Unfinished Sympathy.
Shaggy - Oh Carolina.
Fluke — Slid.
Lords of Acia — The Most Wonderful Girl.
Neneh Cherry - Move With Me.
I particularly love the first melody.
It's clear that Enigma's music fits perfectly with the film's tone.
The ending.
Honestly, the ending left me a bit underwhelmed, and the phrase "I guess nothing makes sense" came to mind.
I'm not satisfied with the way the story wraps up...
And yet, I absolutely loved the film.
Yes, it's a bit slow-paced.
Yes, it's not the most action-packed movie.
But it's an easy watch, and I found myself fully engaged from start to finish, genuinely interested in the story.
Reviews / Ratings.
The ratings are great, and the reviews for this film are usually good.
I noticed that when there are negative reviews, they're often from men, while most women are left impressed by the movie.
I'm blown away - this darkly sensual film has left me with a pleasant aftertaste. It's been a few days, and the movie is still stuck in my head and refuses to let me go.
I find myself thinking about it while I'm busy with my daily tasks!
I'm completely blown away.
I'm giving it a solid 5-star rating!
I highly recommend watching it.
Thanks so much for reading!
