I'm still buzzing from my visit to Siam Ocean World in Bangkok. This oceanarium is a total game changer for anyone who loves marine life. From the moment I stepped inside, I was blown away by the sheer size and variety of the exhibits. The atmosphere is super relaxed, with comfy seating areas and plenty of interactive displays. But what really impressed me was the stunning array of fish and sea creatures on show. I spent hours exploring the different zones, from the shark tunnel to the sea turtle exhibit. If you're a fan of oceanariums or just looking for a unique experience in Bangkok, Siam Ocean World is a must-visit. Just be prepared for some chilly air conditioning inside – but trust me, it's a small price to pay for the unforgettable experience.
Specifications
I'd never been to a real oceanarium before, so when I was planning my trip to Bangkok, Siam Ocean World was at the top of my to-do list.
I took a bus from Khao San Road, which only cost me 11 baht, and before I knew it, I was standing in front of the oceanarium. The surrounding shopping center was a bit of a maze, but I blame my navigation app and the Thais who don't speak English.
P.S. If you're having trouble navigating, consider buying a ticket from the tour office, which includes a transfer to and from the oceanarium. But honestly, the freedom of solo travel is worth the extra effort.
If I had known I'd be writing a review, I would've taken photos of the entrance and ticket booth. Alas, my camera only has shots from inside the oceanarium. So, here are the details:
Entrance fee: 990 baht
Photography and videography: allowed.
Facility: indoor.
Air conditioning: yes, bring a light jacket or sweater.
Time for viewing: not limited. I spent two hours gazing at the fish and crustaceans.
LayoutSo, what's Siam Ocean World like? It's basically one long path with different sections and themed areas. I liked the fact that you can walk along without distractions, taking in the exhibits at your own pace.
Pros: the layout is straightforward, and you can easily navigate through the different zones.
Cons: if you miss a photo op at the beginning, you'll have to backtrack – there are no shortcuts. My advice? Take your time, enjoy the views, and don't rush.
AtmosphereAs soon as I stepped inside, I felt the oceanarium's unique atmosphere: soft lighting, soothing music, and colorful marine life. It was clear I'd spend the next hour or two in a state of calm contemplation. There weren't many visitors, including some rowdy Chinese tourists. I could take my time, admire the exhibits, and snap photos without any hassle. The atmosphere was super relaxing.
Themed zonesI'm excited to share what you can see inside the oceanarium. It's got 11 themed zones, and each one is designed to transport you to a different underwater world. You'll see inhabitants of rocky shelters, coral reefs, and tropical waters. Plus, you'll meet the kingdom of sea urchins, starfish, sharks, and enormous turtles. There are also penguins, but they were pretty chill, just sitting on the beach and not exactly putting on a show.
To be honest, there are so many marine creatures to mention, I'll just say one thing - there are a lot, and they're all different, so I spent two hours in the oceanarium!
In the background - lazy penguinsWhat I likedI loved everything! The aquariums are spotless, well-designed, and gorgeous, the interior is thought out, and it's a real treat to look at them. As for the marine life, I'd only seen most of them on TV before, but here they're right in front of you - even the scary moray eels and sharks, which are as big as a two-meter giant. The lighting in the room is dim, the aquariums are lit up, and you can see the fish clearly.
The jellyfish exhibit was a real highlight - it's like something out of a sci-fi movie, but in a good way. The UV lights and colorful jellyfish moving in time with the music are mesmerizing. Right in front of the aquarium are comfy sofas - you can lie down, put your hands behind your head, and enjoy the jellyfish dance.
Jellyfish danceThe underwater tunnels really blew me away. You walk through them, and above your head, massive rays, sharks, and sea turtles swim by. It feels like you're actually in some kind of underwater kingdom. The aquariums have plants, rocks, reefs, and a small amount of decor. The scales are big, so you can see everything and take plenty of photos.
Underwater tunnelsOverall summary Siam Ocean World is an absolute must-visit. I've heard it's not as good as some Western oceanariums, but since I have nothing to compare it to, I can confidently say you'll love it. There are plenty of marine creatures, the aquariums are beautiful, and the atmosphere is magical. Just a tip - the air conditioning works really well here, so bring a sweater and wear sneakers instead of slippers.
My reviews of Thailand:
I've gotta say, Caron Beach was a total gem – the clear waters and soft sand were a dream come True!On the other hand, Patong Beach was a whole different story – it was loud and crazy, but I loved the energy! And then there's Bangkok – the city's got this amazing, colorful vibe that's just infectious!Last but not least, Siam Niramit in Phuket was an absolute highlight – the show was mind-blowing!
